近日同朋友到Soho品嚐一間大受好評既Pizzeria Motorino。一入門口就有staff上前welcome我地將我地帶到一枱露天座位上,感覺幾特別。我們一行5人,坐底不久就有staff前來同我地介紹menu同special。我地叫左3個antipasti (Meatballs, Chicken Wings同Salumi Platter)同2個pizzas (Sopressata Picante同Prosciutto Pizza)。當中我最喜歡Sopressata Picante,一個好似Pepperoni既pizza,當中有chilli帶有少少辣。Pizza底做得好好,完全係意大利拿坡里風情。總結,這次我地無揀錯地方。服務同食物都好好,我一定會再幫襯。

Many friends recommended this pizza restaurant to me and finally i have time to have a try. We made reservation 2 days in advance for 4 people at 12:00noon but when we arrived there, we were the first group of customers and when we left the restaurant at 1:30, it still had 0% of empty seats. So dont worry if you forget to make reservation for lunch.The price for lunch set is very attractive- only $128 and with appetizers. And they do not reduce the size of pizza for lunch set. Many friends recommended this pizza restaurant to me and finally i have time to have a try.

The price for lunch set is very attractive- only $128 and with appetizers. And they do not reduce the size of pizza for lunch set. For the Margherita(left side), the pizza is chewy and soft with rich tomato sauce and mozzarella on it. But I don't like the strong smell of burnt from the base. The burnt smell is even stronger than the tomato smell on top and this makes me quite disappointed. Maybe some people love this kind of pizza but i could only say this is not my cup of tea.

It's a great way to start, right, stating the obvious. Pretty much everyone loves pizza, and with good reason, it's a simple staple that just tastes great. I've spent plenty of time in cities around the world where the pizza is supposed to be the best, including Rome and New York (see post here). I found the pizza in Rome to be the best, but unfortunately, the pizza in New York was a mixed bag, ranging from completely amazing to pretty much 'meh.

Living in the Mid Levels means that I'm forever traipsing up and down the escalators (or magical anti-gravity machine) that runs from Central, right the way through Soho to Conduit Road. It's hard not to notice that there is a little slice of New York, right in the centre of Soho. Motorino Pizza is a little pizza joint that opened up in Brooklyn New York, a neighbourhood pizzeria with big ambitions. With outlets in New York, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore Hong Kong, the team from Motorino are bringing a slice of the Big Apple to Asia.

We'd zoomed up the magical anti-gravity machine dozens of times before we thought we'd stop in and see if we could be transported back to New York, and memories of our greatest holiday. Motorino is a pretty compact little restaurant and stepping through the front doors did transport us back to our time in New York. Exposed brick walls were reminiscent of little cafes in the Little Italy and were very much a feature of many of the pizzerias in NYC.

After grabbing a seat at one of the very close and cramped tables, we were given couple of menus to look over. As you'd hope, the main focus of Motorino was on pizza but there were a couple of antipasta options, but with nothing really standing out, we turned our focus to the pizza options. With around a dozen options, there are most pizza combinations that you could hope for, and next to the pizza was pretty comprehensive list of ingredients that you could add - should the mood grab you. Keeping it simple, we just ordered off the standard menu.

I'm a sad traditionalist when it comes to pizza, so it was no surprise when I ordered the Margherita, which came with a rich tomato sauce, mozzarella di bufala and a drizzle of olive oil. I was a little surprised to see that some pecorino cheese was added, a little bit of a deviation from the traditional Margherita. When delivered, the pizza looked the goods. The tri colour of the Italian flag was represented but I was a little disappointed to see how much crust was on my pizza, it was thick and there was a lot of it. My first bit of the pizza told me everything I needed to know... Good flavour from the tomato sauce and the creamy mozzarella was also good, but my pizza was soggy! The pizza dough had not been delivered crispy and it felt a little thick, which seriously detracted from the overall pizza experience.

Wondering if it was just my pizza, I checked in with SC to see how her Soppressata Piccante was going. Again, the ingredients were all there, the spicy sausage was nice and hot, just as it should be but the pizza had way too much crust and was soggy as well.

There are some pizzas that you get where they start off crisp, but due to the olive oil and tomato sauce, they go soggy. For me, this is acceptable, but the Motorino pizzas were not like that, the dough was a bit thick and just didn't go crispy at all. There are a couple of things that could have happened here, either the pizzas were not cooked long enough, or the pizza dough was a little thick. I tend think that the pizzas were not in the oven quite long enough, my mozzarella could definitely have been a little more melted.

So, our trip to Motorino was true to our trip to New York, where on the whole the pizza didn't live up to expectations. In my experience, for all the hype, NYC pizzas don't really come close to their European counterparts.

There are quite a few pizza joints in Hong Kong and we've had some pretty decent pizza here, it just turns out that Motorino is not on the list. Look, it's not terrible pizza, not by a long shot... The ingredients are all good quality and the tomato base is actually very good, but the line between great and average pizza is very thin (just like a good pizza base should be).... The perfect pizza needs all the components to come together and that includes a crispy base and it just didn't happen.

Wow where to start with Motorino? I was keen to visit the Central branch of Motorino after reading some reviews and recommendations from friends. I was massively disappointment.

Bad food, awful service and glacial temperatures meant this was a meal that I would choose not to repeat. We only ordered a main course - two prosciutto and fior di latte pizzas. The food was lukewarm at best when it arrived at the table and after a couple of slice it was positively cold. This was pointed out to the waiter who tried to explain that my pizza was ice cold because of the prosciutto topping - err no.

I can't fault Motorino for the quality of the ingredients the mozzarella and prosciutto hit the mark but the pizza base was disappointing. Neapolitan pizza is not meant to be doughy and claggy.

The service in general was poor. The restaurant was practically empty but flagging down waiters was a challenge, plates were removed while other people at the table were still eating, and then a long wait for the food and the bill. I hate to complain about wait staff but something was really amiss with this restaurant.

The other problem with Motorino is that is freezing cold. This restaurant is so cold they have outdoor heaters inside the restaurant. You should not have to wear a winter coat inside a restaurant to stay warm!

In fairness to Motorino the staff did offer a free dessert as an apology. One problem - the tiramisu wasn't very nice. My guest and I barely had a spoonful each of this bone dry dessert - no marsala in tiramisu?

With the bill topping $500 for such a disappointing meal I have to recommend people try Piccolo Pizzeria or Pizzeria Italia for genuine thin crust pizza.

It seems they clearly want the customers to pay and order more toppings which we did and it was ok- pizza are served, precut into 4 pieces instead of 8 slices. In a word, it was super! And fairly guilt free as well so perfect for a summer luncheon if you don't want to over-indulge.

The pizza was less easy to share, but that's only because I wanted it all to myself. After two very genrous slices I was perfectly full, but craving more. The pizza base is flat but still light with a charcoaled flavour that is so more-ish. And the light chilli kick you get with the salty percorino is perfect. I loved it. Getting hungry thinking about it actually.

My strongest opinion though, is if you might order Cherry Stone Clams Pizza ($208) like we did, please DO NOT overspend time on taking photos because it can smell and taste awfully fishy once it starts cooling down. I learned that if I must order this again, I must either boost my photo-snapping skills or only order it when I have more than two people to share.

I'm waiting for another chance to eat here, and I know I would go for other pizzas then... perhaps the more ordinary Margherita?

This dessert is beautiful when plated. the cake is so rich and so smooth, we all know what chocolate tastes like, but trust me my friend and i stopped talking for 5 second when we put one spoonful of heaven into our mouths. it will command "oohs" and "aahs" for 100% sure, try it yourself.

I have always loved pizza. When I was young, I am a big fan of Pizza Hut and Dominos. Motorino, a pizzeria originated from Brooklyn, sits alongside the escalator on Shelley Street at Soho. Motorino kneads and ferments their Neapolitan pizza dough everyday at their kitchen and they have a beautiful wood burning brick oven at their kitchen! One interesting thing I saw the night I dine was that the pizza chef is an Indian. I wonder if his skills on naah/ roti had advantage in here.

The menu at Motorino is more extensive than I thought. There are 7 antipasti items on the menu, let along the monthly specials on the chalk board. The pizza at Motorino is more cheese based. If you are more the tomato based type of person, like me, you can always top tomato sauce onto their pizza! =)

Gragnano
As known as the "perfect pizza wine", we got this glass by checking in on Facebook. The gragnano is a medium-bodied frizzy red wine. It was pretty strong and I got a bit tipsy after this little glass.

Cherry Stone Clam - HKD208
A very refreshing and flavourful pizza with flor de latte (Mozarella made with cow's milk) as based. The clam flavour was vivid and rich on the palate which I literally felt like drinking some broth from a clam pot. The lemon enlightened the pizza by bringing a slight sourness to the palate.

If you have the pizza by hand, you can sniff the charred aroma from the blackened rim. The first quarterly slice of the pizza was extremely enjoyable with a chewy and crunchy base, the rest went soggy pretty quickly and made it undesirable.

New Anniversary Pizza Pugliese - HKD188
A monthly special from Motorino probably to celebrate their anniversary at the Soho branch. The pizza was originally cheese based, but we topped tomato sauce as we would like a tomato based pizza. The pizza had a nice charred crispy rim, as the previous pizza, the first quarter slice was perfect, but the others went soggy quickly. This pizza was very flavourful, cheesy and meaty. The Italian broccoli was lovely.

If you have not tried Neapolitan style pizza, you have to come to Motorino. My only tip would be come in a party of 4, so every pizza can be consumed promptly before the pizza based went soggy. tasted amazing; Or just order the pizza one at a time!

最後試嘅係weekend 同 public holiday 限定嘅 brunch pizza,有兩隻煎蛋、bacon 同芝士。因為本人係蛋嘅忠實fans
。可惜我地一致認同呢個pizza最冇咁特別,下次可免,試過就算。
pizza個批底同一般食開嘅薄批同厚批都唔同,好似麵包咁,好有咬口。

Other Info. : 第二日我地將食剩嘅pizza翻熱,我一打開個袋,一陣好香嘅pizza味已經充斥整個廚房。(個pizza仲係凍冰冰嫁!)

周末下午時份來到中環店, 食客不算很多但大多是老外光顧. 看看餐牌, 發現這裡跟香港一般的意大利有點不一樣, 這裡完全沒有意粉, 意大利飯等等供應, 只有十來款不同配料的薄餅提供, 實行專心一致的只做好一味就對了. 再看看價格, 一整個薄餅價錢由HK$98到最貴的HK$208都有, 豐儉由人, 但大多都是百多元左右. 如果嫌單吃薄餅太齋, 其實這裡也有數款沙律小食供應的.

餐廳地方其實不算好大, 但裝潢又幾有特色. 店內以白色跟綠色相間作主調, 簡潔舒服得來又搶眼. 這裡雖然只有廿多三十個座位, 不過坐起來又不算太狹窄, 而座位後排的一整列餐酒更顯得甚有氣勢.
再走到盡頭一點近廚房的位置, 竟然看到一大座傳統用來烤薄餅用的烤爐, 果真夠份量. 看到這裡宅女對這麼出品的薄餅便更有期待了!

不過這天正好主廚Mathieu也在餐廳, 當然就不能放過偷師的機會了! (雖然宅女也不多會自己弄薄餅...) 大廚先來向我們談了不少麵粉的知識, 也講解了製作薄餅麵團的技巧. 只見大廚三兩下功夫, 不用數分鐘便能做出一個完美的薄餅, 大家看在眼裡滿以為製作很容易, 誰不知當自己下手做時才知道原來單是搓麵粉都甚為困難! 果然大廚功力真的是高人一等!
而主廚Mathieu對薄餅本身的餅底也甚有要求, 用的麵粉是意大利最著名的CAPUTO 00號薄餅麵粉. 而且麵團必須要發酵兩日半才拿來做薄餅, 出來的餅底便會較一般薄餅都要鬆軟得多, 不會太容易吃滯.

先來的是最基本的款式, 以蕃茄醬作基底, 簡單的加上水牛芝士, 蘿勒, 羊奶芝士Pecorino Cheese跟橄欖油就可以放入烤爐了. 當然烤烘的時間也要拿得非常準確, 出來餅邊濃卜卜的上面帶著點點黑焦, 大廚說這是烤烘時酵母的反應, 絕對可以放心食用. 入口蕃茄跟芝士的味道互相輝映著, 濃郁度恰到好處. 不過最有驚喜的果然是餅底部份, 包邊非常鬆軟又帶點空氣感, 吃起來十分輕身, 想不到這麼簡單的一個薄餅是如此美味.

相信不少女生常會覺得薄餅是種很肥很膩的食物, 但這款以椰菜作主打的應該會感覺GREEN很多吧. 內裡加了些少蒜, 羊奶芝士Pecorino Cheese跟意大利煙肉Pancetta等, 當然少不了大量的椰菜片了! 這款吃起來真的啖啖都是椰菜, 非常清新, 但又帶著少許蒜香和微咸的肉味, 配著鬆軟的餅底吃, 感覺這款輕怡得多, 就算是女生應該都可以吃上大半個.

想吃特別一點的款式, 這個絕對是宅女當日的心水. 內裡除了加有意大利煙肉PANCETTA, 羊奶芝士Pecorino Cheese, FIRO DI LATTE等等, 最搶眼的當然放在中間的兩隻太陽蛋了! 這個吃起來味道較濃郁, 芝士味也重一點, 同時也帶著點點蛋香, 味道頗豐富的. 不過可惜的是供應時間只限星期六日由12點到下午4點, 想吃就要預一預時間了.

如想吃有份量感的, 這個Prosciutto Di Parma就絕對不能錯過了. 薄餅內簡單的只放了FIRO DI LATTE (水牛芝士的一種), 披薩草, 羊奶芝士及橄欖油, 但上方就厚厚的鋪滿了不少巴馬火腿, 就是餅邊都蓋得看不見, 實在是非常霸氣! 入口火腿非常軟棉又帶點咸香, 加上底下芝士的香濃, 這款偏重口味一點不過味道實在非常出色, 忍不住一件又一件的進攻.
感謝店方跟公關的邀請令宅女足足吃了九件薄餅之多, 過了一個愉快又捧腹的下午.
食物水準尤其薄餅的確是能令人留下深刻的印象, 宅女自己也絕對會考慮掏腰包再來光顧.
在香港要找意式薄餅巳經不算容易, 要找好吃的更是有難度, 因此實在高興能遇到這家店, 下次再去灣仔的分店試試!
