We were in the mood for some Indian food and wanted to go to a buffet so we can try different things. Much to our pleasant surprise, the buffet at Tandoor was great with a huge variety of food. There were different types of grilled meat - chicken and lamb with at least 3-4 different types of curries. There was (my favorite) chicken bryiani plus dhal, sag paneer (spinach and cheese), grilled potatoes and potato tika. There was so much good food one would definitely be leaving satsified. There was

There was also an entire table of dessert - fresh fruit, and traditional indian sweets

When we arrived we were served with some appetizers - dosas with mashed potatoes. The dosas were made fresh and the crepe was fried without it feeling too greasy. We were also given the choice of plain or butter naan bread. Again it was brought to our table after it was made fresh.

The environment was very comfortable and clean. There was indian live music which was a great addition to an authentic meal. The waitresses were attentive and welcoming. The buffet was around HKD250 + 10%. One can also order a la carte which is something I will consider next time. The table next to us ordered Chicken Tikka and it was sizzling on the grill as the waitress brought it out to their table.

I was here last night with my wife. There was live music (on a Tuesday!) and it was pretty good-- not that I'm a connoisseur of Indian music or anything. That's probably the most positive thing I can say about the place.

We had the dinner buffet, so maybe the food is better a la carte. I had a little bit of most everything from the buffet, but none of it was good, and some of it was bad. Several of the curries were just pretty bland even though you could see whole spices and cilantro etc right in the dish-- I don't quite know how they managed that feat. The chicken in all the chicken dishes was tough and overcooked. The rest of the meat wasn't particularly tender either. The insides of the samosas were mushy and the outsides weren't crispy or flaky (the mint chutney was good though). My dosa, even though it was made fresh right in front of me, was soggy and bland. Luckily they had whole green chili peppers, because I had to eat several just to give my food some flavor.

Food: 3/10

The service, too, was terrible. Even though the food was bad, I stuffed myself. That's how buffets work. So I asked for the check and guy I asked proceeded to insist that we have dessert, even after we both said, "no thanks, we're full." He eventually argued my wife into getting some dessert, and never brought the check. We had to ask for the check a second time, and this was compounded by the fact that at least one of the servers was clearly ignoring us. Getting the bill and leaving should not be a frustrating experience, and the waitstaff has no business pressuring you into more food, even if it is free.

Service: 3/10

Finally, there was the price. We had the dinner buffet and 2 sodas each for a grand total of $680. I have never in my life had a buffet that was worth $680 (unless you count open bars), and this was no exception. I understand that SOHO is expensive, but for a sub-par buffet Save your money and go elsewhere.

Price 2/10

I already said it, but I'll say it again: save your money and go elsewhere. Final score: 3/10

- will be reverting back to the Tandoor for their lunch buffet instead of Jashan and Bombay Dreams (the items and variety are less for the same price).
Although having said that I would still choose Bombay Dreams over Tandoor for their a la carte selection.

my crave for indian food emerged after breakfast. not wanting to go to the small indian restuarant nearest to my home for its naan is awfully dry and thin, i proposed giving the more expensive and (hopefully) authentic indian restaurants in central a try. so we went, expecting something more delicate and beautifully presented from it. we decided to go to tandoor, which we had paid a visit to months ago for its dinner buffet.

we heard the indian live band before we entered tandoor, which is a floor above ground. the two musicians played indian music (w/o singing). the restaurant was somehow empty at 1:30, so it was actually a bit noisy (and annoying) for the music seemed to be looping.

anyways, we were greeted by friendly staff. the manger led us to sit down and presented us with the long drink menu, from which i ordered a mango lassi. its less watery than ordinary lassis and less sour as well. it had a taste of 'authentic' mango in it too.

a waitress also rested few kinds of different chutney,papadums and small cups of mint water as a welcoming drink. it was a lil thicker than water, yet less spicy than what i had expected. it was sweet but not syrup-ly sweet, and i actually loved the taste of it.

after reading the long and heavy menu, and be confused by the hindu names of dishes, we ended up ordering:

assorted parokas(deep-fried veggie) for appetizer ;
saag paneer (cottage cheese in spinach mush);
murgh mahkani (butter chicken);
and lamb biryani (a rice dish).
we also ordered cheese naan to go with the curry.

the parokas was great - although deep-fried, they were NOT oily at all. the eggplant, potato, chilli, onion ring and califlower were all still juicy and NOT HARD AT ALL. i love the flour coating especially, and it went well with the mint chutney.

saag paneer was great. less creamy but more veggie than what we usually have. the cheese chunks were a lil hard, but it gave variety to the mushy spinach base. it may look a bit discouraging to eat as it resembles baby food to an extent, but actually it tastes great.

murgh mahkani was excellent. its not brightly orange in colour, yet it tastes great and extremely creamy. you can detect a lil sourness of tomatoes in the aftertaste but all it all its rich due to the butter used. it went well with the cheese naan, which was THICK with a great texture. it resembles soft, flat bread and can be used to hold the curry sauce when eating. the cheese inside did not melt and form a 'cheese-string' as you bite-and-pull, but its so rich in flavour that you might get to think you are indeed eating pizza instead of indian naan. and with a soft texture comes a crispy but not burnt base-being tandoored to the max goodness. yummy. id go again just for the naan!

lamb biryani- the rice was wet, unlike what we usually had at the nepalese restaurant; its also more reddish while those we had were usually yellowish. its not at all spicy but aromatic with all the spices and herbs used. the chunks of lamb hidden in the pot of rice were large, but NOT HARD AND DRY at all- they were indeed quite juicy. its rich of the distinctive flavour of lamb and also went well with the mint chutney. matter of fact it tastes better than the so-called 'lamb chop' you get at some average western restaurants!

we had a long and somewhat 'disturbed' lunch (due to the loud and looping live music) but we enjoyed everything we had. and oh, the portion of food was actually quite large, although the metal pots they serve the curry with look small, and we struggled to eat everything for it was indeed tasty and enjoyable. still we got to waste the creamy and dreamy mahkani sauce for we were all too stuffed to eat.

everything costed around $470. considering the friendly service(the waiters are always around and ready to serve you, and they actually enthusiastically explain the menu/the dish/sides/authentic ways of eating indian food to us everytime something new was being served, and oh they changed plates VERY often too), the cosy environment and last but not least the high quality of food, its actually a bargain, and tandoor is a place worthy for a second visit!

Went to Tandoor based on some good reviews - what a bad experience. There were 4 of us and all thought the meal had been cooked in advanced and simply reheated before being served - nothing tasted freshly cooked. Don't know what has happened, but either the prior reviews were written by the owners or the place has gone down hill. Would not go there again.

Pros
The service, decor, taste and hygiene standard seems good. I know this restaurant from the previous location and despite moving to a smaller location seems to have maintained the same standard, which is very nice.

Cons
I think it's due to the recession but the portion size was tiny for everything we ordered. I've been to numerous indian restaurants in the city (Viceroy, Brantos, JoJo, Gaylord etc) but this is the first time I've had portion sizes this small. The Tandoori chicken ($118) consisted of two chicken legs. The vegetarian dishes we ordered was not even half full in the metalic serving bowl. Per person we ordered one rice/bread dish, one gravy dish, one drink and one tandoor dish but it wasn't enough.

其實 over all 都ok ga, 但佢d nan 就真係好唔得!!

> Tandoori Chicken (juicy chicken)
> Seekh Kabab (my favourite... meat is not dried)
> Samosa (perfect pastry ... not too thick but not too thin and crispy)
> Mutton Vindaloo (a very exciting experience)
> Mango Lasi (perfect match with spicy food)
> Gulab Jamun (how can you miss this dessert?)

Lunch本身less than $100...

When we were ordering set lunches, after I made my order, one of the male server said to us, "Are you guys having five set lunches with the same thing?" We all looked at him and said, "No." He replied, "No?" We said, "No." Then he gave us a face that implied that we were giving him more work to do then it should be.

When we seemed to take longer to decide what we wanted, which should be understandable as we were not familiar with Indian cuisine, they showed often impatience by pouting.

Anyway, if you totally do not mind feeling being treated like that, it is a nice restaurant and it isn't outrageously expensive.
