My date and I in search of different culture and foods to savior came across this cozy Spanish restaurant tucked away in the busy Taikoo Place area. On entering we found the place ambient and a warm feeling. The deco was unique and gave us the home feel impression, rather than the usual garish commercial feel. We often find ethnic restaurants over done in the attempt to show their country identity. Tavern del Mar, deco gave the home feel and without going to Spain, can imagine walking into a traditional home.
On arriving we were greeted by Kimberly an elegant and charming lady and she patiently explained the menu offering suggestions as it was our first visit. Something, you not find elsewhere, as we were not so hungry she suggested and offered to reduce the portions so we can enjoy rather than over filling ourselves. This was good as we want to sample the tastes not to just fill our stomachs.
As starters, we had tapas; Spanish omelet served with homemade bread lightly covered with tomato and sour cream followed with baby eel. The omelet was tasty and fluffy and when accompanied by the bread gave a nice balance. The baby eels were exquisite and my date even used the homemade bread to soak up the olive oil which it was marinated with. We would sure to order this again. Upon Kimberly recommendation, we also ordered cheese with Spanish pickles. Not a pickle fan, I found myself thoroughly enjoying it and excellently accompanied by the cheese.
For mains, Kimberly recommended we try the chili tripe and squid paella. The chili tripe was juicy and tender, normally this kind of food often is chewy but this dish was just right, personally I would have liked it spicier, but my date liked it just right. The paella came to the table sizzling hot and cooked in the pan it was served. It was excellent, the squid was cooked perfectly as often I find squid over cooked and become chewy. This dish I could recommend strongly, my date normally not a rice fan, she had several helpings.
Accompanied this we had very nice Spanish champagne which really topped off the meal.
We both will sure to go back again and highly recommend others to try.

#2.  The tapas are fantastic.  Recommendations include; omelet, homemade bread, baby eel,  anchovies, potatoes with tomato and sour cream, and definitely go with the cold meat plate

#3.  The paella is fantastic.  My favourite is the squid ink, but we just had the noodle paella tonight and it was wonderful.  Portions are large and full of seafood and flavour.

#4.  Kim and Domenec are the best.  Everytime I come in they have something new to show off or new recommendation that just totally hits the spot.  This time was the noodle paella which I am so excited to finish off for breakfast tomorrow.  And if you're planning a trip to Barcelona get Dom out of the kitchen for some recommendations of must see places.

This is my neighborhood go to.  Always fun, always and experience, and always quality.  Do it.

首先試西班牙披薩,賣相一般,嚐一口以後,便知道是地道西班牙的風味。
經典的西班牙披薩,一般由食店餘下的麵包粉團,加上鯷魚、蕃茄燴蔬菜焗製,餅底的厚度不會像意大利披薩如餅乾片般薄脆,當然也不會像港式披薩厚實。披薩沒有好餅底跟壞餅底之分,只要喜歡鯷魚的人自然會欣賞西班牙披薩的美。

我們點五成熟的牛扒,伴上芝士薯蓉。分切的時候,見到同事的切割手勢,已發現不對勁,牛扒已達至8成半到全熟。唯牛扒的汁醬味道濃厚,薯蓉亦非常芝士,算是達標。畢竟西班牙人的強項不是做牛扒。
建議:餐廳未能準確掌控牛扒生熟程度(午市人多,廚房太忙),倒不如點菜時不要詢問客人要求。

 接續是烤雞伴上烤蔬菜及紅糙米飯。雞一上檯,眾人非常詫異,上來了一隻大雞腿。菜單上寫著烤雞、的確沒有指明是雞的哪一部分,也不算得商品與事實不相符。雞腿的確帶來意料之外,更神奇的是雞腿的味道,除了微鹹微甜的薄醬汁以外,我幾乎感覺不到西梅的存在。

 壓軸登場的西班牙鐵鑊海鮮飯,未上桌的香氣已令人失魂,一看到兩隻大蝦,伴以藍青口、魷魚、魚塊,人已落魄。
當我𢳂飯的時候,口水已不停流,好吸引。魷魚的顏色告訴著大家,蕃紅花小姐們的功勞可不少,好的食物是值得人等待的。米飯的汁非常濃杰,集合了海鮮的精華,還隱藏了小小的帆立貝。由於鐵鑊熱騰騰,如果喜愛吃飯焦的朋友,不妨留一點飯在鑊中,最後才嘆。這雖然不是我吃過最好吃的西班牙鐵鑊海鮮飯,但也很不錯。

餐飲可以選擇,茶、咖啡、檸檬特飲。檸檬特飲並非大多數午市套餐的免費項目,當然不可錯過。吃過如此豐富的午餐,配檸檬凍飲,肯定是去膩的不二之選。
Other Info. : 雖然已一星期前訂檯,桌上的餐具及杯子都有所缺,希望未來會有改善。冰水提供也比較慢,星期五出外用餐的確要多點耐性食物等候時間很短,才點菜不到5分鐘,沙拉已經上檯。可以水還未倒。 另外,當上烤雞時,我們驚覺點菜沒留意到可選飯或薯菜,便即時要求未上桌的主菜轉為薯菜,女侍應答覆我們儘量配合。客戶服務這一點,已經尚算做得不錯。

It has been some time since my last entry here in openrice. The dinner I had last night made me wanna write something here again.
It was a quiet Sunday evening. I drove my friend to Quarry bay where we discovered this spanish tavern at the corner of the street with a car park conveniently just located few steps beside.

We parked the car, entered the tavern, and were quickly arranged to be seated.  

We ordered a warm tapa which was something like potato balls with chicken inside. The taste was good with the tender chicken meat inside, alongside with our drinks - sangria and lime mojito it was just perfect.

For the main courses we ordered their famous seafood paella and a mixed seafood platter. Although the portion for the paella is a bit too small for 2 men, it tasted so genuine and good that it did really make me and my friend recall our few days spent in Barcelona 6 years ago. Those were the days we had our exchange studies in Europe and tavelled here to there with just a backpack. For the mixed seafood platter, the seafood was very fresh and tasty.

In addition, the music in the restaurant is very nice and most importantly, one of the owners of this restaurant - a very elegant lady who is caring and friendly does care for what you think about the dishes and is keen on improving every aspects if there are rooms to.
In a word, it is a quality Spanish restaurant that is worth revisiting!

預約了一個平日晚上到訪,店裡食客不算多,兩口子沿著窄長的走廊往內走,經過滿是海濱情調的酒吧檯,見牆上掛著的,盡是西班牙陽光海岸風景畫及捕魚裝飾,看來店主在設計上確實花了不少心思。來到餐廳盡頭,這裡竟然別有洞天,除了佈置得夠雅致外,地方寬敞闊落,讓人坐得既舒適又寫意,再配合昏黃的暖色燈光,果然是個適合情侶拍拖用餐的好地方啊!

剛入座不久,侍者已率先為我倆送來是日精選例湯。見兩碗餐湯色澤橙紅鮮豔,初頭還以為只是紅蘿蔔湯,不過細嚐過後,發現這湯雖不算濃稠,但喝起來既有甘筍的草青味,也有南瓜的清新香甜,啊!原來是甘筍南瓜湯,味道真的不賴。正所謂好的開始,就是成功的一半,對之後幾道菜式更是萬分期待。

接著出場的是加泰隆尼亞式沙津,據悉地處於加泰隆尼亞區 (Catalan) 的巴塞隆拿,它的食品風格受到很多地中海飲食文化的影響,是以其出品的菜式,常可見到海鮮影子。不過這道沙律,食材除了番茄、生菜和橄欖外,又並沒放進任何海鮮,加上個沙律入口酸得人牙根顫抖,味道令人怪難受的。

來到了下一道菜,一直想試那厚而嫩、中心蛋漿仍未完全凝固的西班牙薯仔蛋餅,可惜原來這天廚房未能供應,而且侍者亦未有事先向我倆道明缺貨因由,就擅自把蛋餅轉換成豬柳串燒,真可惡! 講番個串燒,單看賣相已經覺得不太吸引,肉質偏瘦,入口乾巴巴的,又韌又沒肉汁,況且味道亦嫌過鹹,水準真的是差強人意。

來吃西班牙菜,又怎可以沒色彩繽紛的西班牙海鮮飯 呢? 西班牙海鮮飯 paella,素來以用料實在,分量巨大見稱,不過未知是否因團購須將貨就價的關係,所以這客用平底鐵窩奉上的海鮮飯, size 較為細小,若以原價 $280 來吃這窩海鮮飯,必感不值。好,再細看材料,有青口、魷魚、墨魚仔、鮮干貝和海蝦等,用料還算豐富,而且吸收了湯汁的米飯,質感夠乾身之餘,咬落亦帶點微硬,滿有嚼勁,做得十分正中,只可惜整體味道真的是有點過鹹。記得之前曾看過店主解釋,是由於用了地中海海鹽調味所至,不過始終覺得廚子可以在食味上稍作調整。

迎賓飲品,點了大路的凍檬茶,呷了一啖,入口雖然帶著絲絲檸檬的酸澀,但勝在無論杯外杯內皆十分冰凍,喝來格外的舒爽。只可惜老公點的蘋果汁,入口毫無果香可言,令人失望。反而幾欣賞單尾的甜品藍莓芝士餅,成品口感雖不算特別幼滑,不過入口既能嚐到藍莓的酸甜清香,但又不會搶去淡雅的芝士味,況且藍莓的酸,更可中和芝士的膩口,令味道更為清新吸引,值得推介。

這次晚餐,總括來說,食物水準一般,吃不出甚麼西班牙特色,不過外籍男店員,熱情奔放,除了不時查詢我倆對食物的評語外,臉上還一直掛著開朗的笑容,見我不斷拍照,還擺出 model 姿態,真搞笑。臨走前見餐廳原來有午市套餐供應,售價由 $60 起,有機會的話,或再來看看是否有甚麼新突破。

昨晚放工跟同事, 一行三人去了附近一間餐廳食晚飯, 平時 Lunch 都見Full, 室內佈置挺特別的, 一直都想試一試晚餐氣氛如何 ?有什麼特別菜式? 果然 menu內有各式各樣的小食菜式 , 而我地就被那個西班牙飯吸引了, dinner set $280 前菜有(湯/SALAD/TAPAS), 當晚是CARROT 湯, 佢地強調健康, 冇加味精同埋冇添加劑, 味道真不錯. 之後是主角, 西班牙料理之王:海鮮飯 (Paella) 裡面加了鮮干貝, 青口, 龍蝦仔, 魷魚等等的海鮮....米就是用了珍珠米大大粒,米心沒熟, 煮法挺正統的味道帶點海鹽的咸, 咸中帶甜, 亦帶出海鮮的鮮味 ,三扒兩撥就俾我地KO左啦, 飯後有餐飲, 我們order左西柚汁, 整晚感覺好好, 最後發現原來老板娘想在店內制造一個漁村夏日的感覺, 好有心思....

Never try Spanish cuisine before , the taste is new to me

smell good, seafood is fresh with sweet taste.

3. Thanks for the cook removing the bone inside the Chicken Wing so we lazy guys can easily eat with "1 bite"

三扒兩撥,問問老閭(是外國人)咩野好,足之俾我發現,無論本地或外地,係老閭樣樣都話好,哈哈,看圖識字,邊樣吸引點邊樣, 足之點了一碟鳳凰雞亦 ($48),豬柳串燒($88),西班牙海鮮飯($280),夠喉收籌。

等唔夠5分鐘已陸續有野上,夠快。

雞亦我吃得多,葉得咁林,又無骨,香口,第一次試到。

串燒,淨係賣相已感受到西班牙海邊餐廳既風情。

個飯,哇,估唔到咁大碟,直情叫埋雙方父母黎先食得哂!

題外話:週年紀念梗係叫番兩杯酒Cheers下先有FEEL啦,但係貪威唔識食既我又點知飲咩好呢! 問問老閭夫婦,言談間,發現佢地係黎自西班牙加泰隆尼亞,即係巴塞故鄉,好勁呀! 佢地話,當地好鍾意飲支白酒叫 Pepe。嘿......Pepe 踢皇馬架喎,係巴塞故鄉出現都有既?!

身故咁特別,重點是又唔貴,實試啦! 試完杯酒,連我女友唔多點飲既都飲左3杯,連同我計,落樓共6杯,哈哈! 味道好特別,很重木味,有果香,不DRY,好正! 皇馬萬歲!

We ordered 2 teas. The teas took minutes to come, and when it came, the water was lukewarm with tea bags and water only filled half a cup. The teas cost was $50 for 2.

The kitchen ventulation must not be working in that the cooking fumes from the kitchen filled the restaurant eating area, in that you appeared to be eatung in the kitchen itself.

The restaurant decoration is poorly designed.

This is the first time I come to this restaurant, and this would also be my last time.

Decoration probably already lowered our expectation when we stepped into the restaurant. not really worth to further comment on the ambience.

Food comment: - OVER CHARGED BUT UNDER DELIVERED

1. garlic tomato paste on sliced baguette - the bread slice was cold, soaky water soft - kind of disgusting pink look.

2. mussel in pot - before it arrived on the table, we smell something like "dirty toilet drainage" was taken out from the kitchen. Mussel was not fresh and bad probably most mussel dead for a long time. i had nerve to try one and was my last but bad memory still lingers in my taste bud and head whole night. very chewy, dried, overcook. perhaps the cook misbelieve chinese like the rotten taste of "smelly tofu" in all dishes.
otherwise it makes no sense for a cook to allow it to come out from his kitchen.
3. boneless chicken wing stuffed with pear and apple strip - creative combination but poor ingredients and poor execution. certainly from frozen chicken. the skin was not properly roasted and the skin fat is too thick.
no heart in cooking.
4. garlic pawn - far from good. no taste of garlic. merely pawn in hot oil. but pawn texture is good
5. spanish omelette - ok but cold
6. seafood paella - sub-standard because the seafood (shrimp, squid, scampi) was totally not fresh but soft and chewy. the worse was the frozen green pea in the rice. you know what i meant by "frozen green pea" - hard, tasteless, dry, powdery. all seafood are very bad.
7. mushroom in oil - normal and acceptable.
8. serrano - no taste and dry. no iberico ham. poor quality

We were given free sangria each but one is more than enough as it didnt taste right. one good comment is that the there were different variety of frunit which were chopped into properly sized cubic. Although we could order all we could eat for that night's special menu but each of us merely had a bite of each dish. The bright side is we achieved the normally impossible, that is under-eat.


Wine menu - all under HKD200 choice unknown spanish wine. - did not dare to order.

Given the poor quality but for the sake of friendly connection, we could only swallow the situation (not the food).
The "friend" (restaurant owner) dared to bill us a price level of a Fofo or ole dinner (without wine) without shame and in cash
. This absolutely boiled my blood immediately. For such quality, i would not eat there even for free. i could only comfort myself that i probably owe this guy in my previous life.

Strictly not recommend to try, even for free.


No dish was up to any average standard. waiting time for each dish is too long. it claims it is spanish private kitchen at night by reservation only.
