Went with two mates of mine for a Wednesday night get together, all three of us kinda missed pub food from our days studying in the UK so we just picked this place pretty much at random.
The people, the setting and the food just felt so homely and comfy. Really relaxed environment and the servers and staff were fantastic, always up for a good laugh. We ordered a steak and kidney pie, two beef burgers, scotch eggs and sausage rolls.
Sausage Rolls:
Nice and piping hot when they came out, the sausage was really great, not the kind of mushy mess you get most of the time in HK.
Scotch Eggs:
Eggs were perfectly cooked and the outsides were not too flowery, would have preferred a little more meat but was still genuinely quite good.
Beef Burger:
I didn't taste the burger but have been reliably told that it is quite good. The chips though, they blew my mind. Perfectly cooked and quite substantial as well. These are proper chips, not french fries. Best chips I have had in a long time.
Steak and Kidney Pie:
This really made me feel like I was back in the UK. The filling, the crust, everything was really good. Turns out this place is quite famous for pies so there you go! The mash potatoes were also cooked to my liking, not too mashed where it becomes more of a puree but creamy mashed potatoes where you can still taste some of the potato pieces. Mashed peas are were also quite good as well. Genuinely no complaints here.
Beer:
The drinks menu is quite large and I loved the fact they put out a lot of local and less well known breweries from around the world, really appreciate the varieties available.
Conclusion:
Overall, I really liked the vibe of the place and will definitely come back. I'd want to come back more often but your wallet will take quite a hit, probably best for special get together's or when you do want a bit of a treat. Also, a lot of the specialty beers ran out very quickly so I would go as early as possible. Other than the price, I'm quite happy with everything else.
