Some of the staff are still the same that worked there before, and some new ones.

After sitting down, they kindly offered water, and asked if I wanted hot or cold, previously not attended to, and there were more smiles on their faces than before.

The menu was very pleasing, I was happy with their 3 tapas lunch per person before, but now it is unlimited which is even more amazing.

There are 17 choices of tapas including soup and dessert.

Instead of the annoying air conditioning being on during the cold winter, making you colder, they had heater, which made the dining experience alot warmer, and the food was kept warm, unlike those irritating air conditioners.

This is the second time i go there, the first time we just went there for a drink and some snacks. It was ok so this time we went for a dinner. Two of us had a garlic prawn starter, a cold cut platter, tortilla and roasted pig belly. We opened a bottle of white wine as well. Service was ok but the food was very disappointing. Apart the garlic prawn, none of them was good and we paid $850 between the two of us. I will not rush back to it.

Went there for dinner with a few friends tonight, and felt that the restaurant is now under a complete different management (my last visit was about a year ago).

The extensive choice of tapas is now replaced by a boring standard menu.
The food has gone from tasty to blend.

I remember Uno Mas as a very lively restaurant, with friendly and attentive services. Unfortunately, none of the waitresses who served us tonight were willing to give us a smile. I have even found them rather pushy, almost unfriendly, in terms of asking us if we need more drinks and deserts.

I feel bad for suggesting my friends to come to Uno Mas tonight, as I believe none of them have found the evening particular enjoyable. Will not go back there for sure.

The rice was a bit hard, my jaw was practically tired after eating it.

The dessert was nice and creamy, and not too sweet.
Overall the food here is good, but service is bad, you practically need to ask them for a glass of water or they will not give you one.

if they have the tapa's lunch I will come back again.

Finally came here for lunch, this is probably my first time having real Spanish food, the ones I have had before are the fake ones.
I liked the lunch style, you can choose a 3 set Tapa from the Tapa list of 15, 14 for food and one for dessert. For two people, we chose 6 Tapa’s.

The restaurant was spacious yet cramped, there were tables spread across the room, however the table for two we had was quite small, not designed for Spanish Tapa’s, you could have at most 3 Tapa’s on the table. I had trouble getting to my cramped my seat, and I am a thin!

The service was a bit cold, could have been better. Not sure if tap water was free, but other tables were given it. Also coffee/tea was included in the set, but they didn’t remind us, and we felt they had different attitudes to causcasians and asians.

Food:

Ensalada de lentejas con jamon: Brown lental salad with ham, red onion, tomato, olive oil and vinegar, a nice tangy starter.
Chipirones al ajillo: baby squids with garlic and parsley: this was the best, the squids were fat and soft with generous sauce.
Croquetas de Jamon: almond crusted chicken and ham croquettes, could see or taste the almond crust, infact it was just plain crumbs with smooth sily potato inside.
Croqutas de Arroz: Saffron rice and manchego fritters, This one I could taste and see the almond pieces as the coating, inside was rice, and moist too, the sauce tasted like pumpkin sauce.
Tortilla con chorizo Potato tortilla with spicy chorizo and paprika: this was just like an omelette, very buttery.
Cordero al vinto tinto: lamb in chorizo in red wine sauce: it tasted more like beef.

Dessert: Orange and almond cake with syrup.

Overall the food was ok, the service and attitude was not!

"Tapas?", a voice edged with uncertainty on the other end of the receiver, followed by "You want tapas on your birthday?" I had El Pomposo in mind, but later a dear friend reminded me an opening of a Spanish Tapas Bar in Wan Chai. For days I agonized over possible embarassment during drunken afternoons from Sangria. There were fond memories of the good times, but the bad ones with spilled secrets often override the vivid memories.

TAPEO has set such high standards for me that when it comes to tapas, I hesitated trying UNOMAS, a place literally means "ONE MORE". The luminated sign leading up to dark steps upwwards. At the end of these stairs was a large space, dimly lit with dark lacquered stools against the open bar. The open kitchen offered you all the actions from the chefs preparing your paella, tossing the salads, shaving jamon etc. The large dining room led up to a terrace overlooking fluorescent lit Lockhard Road.

Back inside, the menu looked promising enough -- a stack of papers on a mini clipboard with boxes to check for orders. For the three of us, lighting eating meant four to five tapas, leaving the well anticipated paella out intentionally (for next visit) . The three of us placed orders, and while listening light guitar tunes, we chatted about birthday wishes, and toasted on good health, good life, and goodness in everything else, as the first of our orders descended upon us.

CALAMARE RELLENO
(Stuffed Calamari with lentils served with saffron aioli, $72) was an extended rectangular plate with a whole squid, stuffed tightly with sauteed green lentils which bears the aroma of smoked ham and onions. The rings of calamari were tender, pairing well with starchy lentils (not mushy though). The saffron aioli was a fluffy light golden pile, so light you wouldn't expect to feel this consistency from an emulsion, think Mayonnaise. The golden hue from saffrom added both a sense of glitzy glamour and floral aroma to an otherwise common sauce for calamari.

CHORIZO FRITO
(Chorizo with red wine reduction, $58) was served in a shallow metal pan. This dish was simplicity as i is. Angular cut of a mildly hot sausage flash-fried in a pan with olive oil, sizzling away. In went the red wine and reduced to a thicker and richer sauce. Just as I thought how ell it would go with bread, there they were, sticks of grilled bread contained in a basket were served up. Each strip of bread, soaking up velvety sauce the colour of brick-red.

Next in line was CROQUETAS DE ARROZ Y MANCHEGO (Deep fried rice fritters with Manchego, $48). These realy are the golden globes the size of golf balls. Eah fritter was coated with chopped blanched almonds before frying, creating the ever so nutty alternative to a conventional breaded coating. Each grain of rice was soft awith an al dente-like core, tightly packed enrobing molten manchego cheese as it oozes out from the centre. The burst of richness was uncalled for, but warm and welcoming indeed!!

ALMEJAS AL JEREZ
(Sauteed clams with ham and sherry, $68) arrived in the truest sense of a peek-a-boo surprise. Served lid-on, I uncover the dish to reveal the aroma most resembling the sensation as if I were standing at the sandy sea shore of Spain, with wet sand squishing between the toes and sea breeze gently brushing by me. The welcoming whiff of the sea greeted me with such intensity that I completely went speechless for a few seconds, before the briny aroma was replaced by the fragrant sherry wine. The clams may be the focus here, but it was the cannellini beans the stole the show. They soaked up all the flavours from the ham, sherry and clams and slow cooked until desired doneness but never to a mush.

The onslaught of tapas charm was fantastic, but deciding to skip the paella and desserts, we just had to have one last tapas. The MANZANA RELLENA (Stuffed Apples, $68).The apple arrived whole, with filling of raisins and minced pork. Served in a shallow pan, the apple was cored as wel. The sauce was somewhat a savory rough applesauce. The apple was soft but retained shape on its own. Unlike a dessert, the sweetness level of the apple was balanced out by the tartness of it, while the meaty pork was accompanied by caramel sweetness of plump raisins and pine nuts used in the filling. Sweet, savory, nutty, meaty, all harmoniously blended in coherence as our tapas adventure comes to an end.

There may not have been staples like Jamon or Paella, or the bubbly Cava in our Tapas adventure at UnoMas, but the array of tapas drew the curtains for more celebrations of wonderful meals ahead. UnoMas has generated considerable buzz and a reputation of authenticity in Barcelona style Tapas, as the dishes arrived piping hot and the staff were knowledgable in the cuisine they served, allowing people like myself yearning to have the experience re-lived. Perhaps just once more, as suggested appropriately in the establishment's name?

Friday, end of the week and I thought it would be nice to have a more "different" kind of lunch experience and came with my "spainophile" colleague. I have been here a few times before, but have never had a proper meal, rather it was alway for the spanish wines and one or two. We decided to go for the 3-tapas lunch offer ($110) which included coffee/tea, so it was a grand 6 tapas altogether. In order of yummiliciousness, they were:

(1) tortilla with chorizo and paprika: this looked like a cheesecake lol, but it was piping hot and the layers of thin potato slices and egg was well-proportioned, and even though I didn't really taste the chorizo, the "icing" of cheese and paprika added a lot of character and flavour.

(2) potato croquette with spanish ham: This was surprisingly not heavy or greasy, the potato filling was smooth and light, almost to a whipped cream consistency.

(3) lamb - forgot the proper name for this one, it was a stew-like concoction of lamb and potato slices made with red wine. There were but 4 or 5 small pieces but it was enough as a tapas dish for 2 people.

(4) meatballs with tomato sauce and chorizo: the meatballs were dry, but I actually like it this way because the dryness suggested that they did not use too much fatty meat. A splash of the plentiful tomato sauce solved the dryness problem instantly.

(5) halved potato with tomato and cheese(?): this was roasted but not greasy, and the skin of the potato was great to eat, not too dry nor too soggy.

(6) salad with cheese: not much to write home about, this was part of the obligatory 5-a-day.

Lightly-roasted bread slices with olive oil were also provided.

All of the above washed down with a drinkable blackcurrantp-tinted tipple, and with friendly and attentive service, what other better way to have a relaxing Friday lunch time for some temporary reprieve from the hustle and bustle.

Went to UnoMas for the first time after hearing the good recommendations from friends.

Table was booked at 730 p.m., but when we arrived, we were "requested" to vacate the table by 9 p.m. as the restaurant conducted 2 sessions on that night.

The tapas menu looks interesting and we ordered 8 tasty tapas, a carafe of Sangria Rosa (really good), and a bottle of white wine at reasonable price. The $$ per head was about HKD 450.

For this sort of price tag, one would expect the restaurant to deliver top services in addition to good food (i.e. similar to the Tapas Bar at Kowloon Shangri-la). I am very disappointed to say that the service offered by this restaurant fell short of the expected standard. The restaurant failed to inform us about the 2 sessions dining arrangement when we booked the table or when we confirmed the table. The waitress serving us was rude, the other who "reminded" us to vacate the table was worse.

It's a Friday night, we would like to relax and enjoyed good wine and food at a nice restaurant. For the type of service that UnoMas offers, I think this restaurant is definitely over-rated. There are clearly a couple of other better restaurants for tapas lovers.

The place was packed to the brim when we arrived for the 7-9 pm dinner sitting so we were lucky to have booked a table. There were a combination of high tables, sitdown tables and seats by two bar counters in a modern black/white setting. Although it was so crowded, it didn't feel noisy or claustrophobic, probably due to the high ceilings of the place.
My friend and I ordered 5 dishes to share, the exact names of which I don't remember due to my abject lack of Spanish vocabulary! Anyhows, there was a whole squid stuffed with some spicy chilli-like stuffing, a tortilla with chorizo, lentil salad and a baked? cod fish in what tasted like a light and clear tomato sauce and the churros with chocolate mousse.
The squid was juicy, savoury and spicy, definitely fresh - a must order! The tortilla was scrumptious even when it got cold towards the end of our meal. The skin of the cod fish was crispy while the flesh was smooth and flavoursome. The sauce was great with the complimentary bread strips provided with our meal. Even the lentil salad was pretty good - and I'm not a salad person. The churros went fantastically well with the chocolate mousse, although it was sugar overload.
My friend ordered wine with her meal (which came with a complimentary slice of tortilla) and I had their sangria (there were five types to choose from and I chose the first from the drinks menu; again, can't remember what it was called). Again, it was all very good.
After we were evacuated from our dinner table at 9 pm, we moved off to the bar table for one more drink and the churros. The bar was next to the open concept kitchen, so we had the pleasure of viewing all the beautiful dishes that were churned out. Everything looked fantastic and we made mental notes of what to try next time.
All in all, it was a great meal and I am looking forward to going back again.

Good things first - the restaurant occupies the former location of Klong, so it has very high ceiling, good location and nice outdoor area. They keep all windows and doors open so it's not too noisy for chats. Now comes the cons - food quality is below average, for the price we paid we would have had much, much better quality tapas in places such as Rico's on Elgin or even La Comida on Staunton. Now comes the cons - food quality is below average, for the price we paid we would have had much, much better quality tapas in places such as Rico's on Elgin or even La Comida on Staunton.

Food - mixed mushroom was very blend; seafood paella saw the seafood falling apart meaning it was not fresh at all; grilled potatoes were noting worth mentioning. All in all, the food lacked taste, aroma and texture...

Drinks - we had 2 pitchers of the Sangria Clasica. First pitcher was small but very tasty, the 2nd one arrived in much bigger pitcher but the taste was not as good. My friend had a very bad headache possibly due to the cheap red wines they use.

Total cost of the meal came to $900 tips included. Just don't expect too much from the food and it's a good location for a chilled out evening!
差 blend, lack of olive oil lack of herbs
