Earlier in Dec., 2016 I called this restaurant a month ahead to book a table (This restaurant had been me and my wife's first-date some 10 years ago, so one can understand the sentimental value).  The lady on the other side of the phone said they'd only take reservations at most a week ahead.  So I marked my calendar and waited patiently and precisely a week ahead.  When I called, the lady took down all the necessary information and reserved us a table, only for me to get another call the next day, telling me the entire restaurant has been booked by a company two weeks ahead.

What happened to "no reservations till at most a week ahead"?  If a company booked in advanced, why did they still jot me down as "reserved"?  The lady on the other line announced the "unfortunate news" in the most matter-of-fact tone and not the least apologetic.  I mean, they could have at least pretend that there was a possible mix-up and say they were sorry.  Perhaps they think I should thank them for making the effort to call and inform me of a cancellation, so I don't end up wasting time and gas driving to their restaurant?  

Any fool can see they got a bigger booking so decided to just "drop" all the smaller fishes.  I am not obtuse to the fact that Hong Kong is a cutthroat business society and making money is vital to survival, but a little integrity and decency and respect to their customers goes a long way.  I'm sorry to say this restaurant shows none of the above, and I can imagine the type of food they serve must have strayed away from the bare minimum just as far as their service.

For example :
Grilled beef - cheap quality beef and over cooked. The sauce tasted like it came from some bad airplane meal.

The bill for two came to $700+. Quite pricey but the food was third tier.
The service wasn't bad, but the waiters and chef were chatting non-stop and so loudly , as if they were having their own BBQ party.

Avoid this restaurant at all cost! The one across MCD is much, much better.

朋友之前去過燒鳥亭食飯,話好好食,我就都約埋佢再食多次!燒鳥亭位於跑馬地成和道中國銀行隔離,門口有好日式嘅紅燈籠高掛,非常易搵,入到店內好熱鬧好有氣氛,餐廳比較多人,好彩有訂到位。食之前叫左支清酒「京之雅 純米大吟釀」,同埋雞泡魚乾。本人好鍾意食秋葵,見到有3種用秋葵做主題嘅串燒,即刻叫左淨秋葵,秋葵牛肉卷,秋葵豚肉卷。仲有叫左隻特大燒鹽燒虎蝦!虎蝦燒到啱啱好,唔會太香口太過火,裏面保留蝦身鮮嫩,面頭帶有少少海鹽味,問侍應生係用咩鹽去燒?原來全店所有串燒係用伯方鹽,伯方之鹽來自瀨戶內海,是日本著名產鹽之地。之後叫左厚切牛舌,牛舌好有汁感,咬落去好彈牙,好有牛味,外脆內軟。雞肉釀蓮藕,好有新意,第一次食到蓮藕同自家釀製嘅十分夾。白鱔肥美,皮脆肉滑。帶子釀雞翼,用雞全翼包住帶子,比帶子吸收晒雞汁,雞翼燒得十分香口。最後點左燒淮山,用新鮮淮山嚟做串燒,口味好滑,加少少黑椒令味道更豐富。人均因為朋友有申請會員卡9折優惠 400左右當然我自己都即時申請張下次再食過!

The menu had a variety of yakitori and side dishes as well. The only downside for yakitori is that there is a minimum order of 2 skewers for almost everything. It worked out fine for us since we had 4 people but it would be too much for say only 2 people as you would not be able to try too many dishes.

Ox Tongue ($36 x 2) - the ox tongue was pretty ordinary here as the texture wasn't as firm or bouncy for my liking - it was a bit too soft and limp. The flavor was pretty decent though.

Crispy Chicken Joint Soft Bone ($24 x 2) - the chicken joint was very crispy with too little seasoning again. 
Minced Chicken with Joint Soft Bone ($22 x 2) - unlike other yakitori places, no egg yolk was given with the tsukune. However, mixing chicken cartilage with the minced chicken was a good move as it gave the tsukune a very good texture.

Japanese Bean Curd with Sesame Sauce ($42) - very nice dish with soft tofu and appetizing sesame sauce. 
Udon with Soup ($56) - udon was overcooked while the broth was a bit bland.
Grilled Rice Ball with Salmon ($28) - the rice ball was nicely toasted but could have used more salmon filling inside. 
Grilled Hamachi Joint ($188) - the hamachi joint was decent as the fish was nicely grilled with flaky texture and fresh taste.

Conclusion - the food here was pretty average while the prices were a bit on the high side. A lot of the dishes were underseasoned while the underlying ingredients were lacking in quality especially the goose liver. What I don't like is the forced minimum 2 skewers per order when the prices are listed for one skewer only. It just doesn't make sense and prevents people from trying more dishes especially for smaller parties. For that, I would not recommend this place for yakitori as there are many finer yakitori places nearby in CWB with much better food and value.

價錢還可以接受.
坐位的位置就比較坐得比較親切.

感覺很親切,服務也很好

This is the first time I am writing a review here. Usually I trust OpenRice's judgement, but this Yakitoritei in Happy Valley really does NOT deserve so many happy faces! Service was very SH*T and food was EXPENSIVE!

We arrived at around 10pm and got sit down right away. They put up this ad says "Sapporo Buy 2 Get 1 Free". So we ordered one first and thinking to order another later. By around 11pm when we were deciding whether to get the 2nd one, this younger waiter (with glasses on) came in front of us and "BOOM" flipped this ad over. We felt helpless and asked him why he did what he did, he simply says, "Special is over!" and walked away! (WTF!) We got so pissed and decided not to order any more beers from them!

There was also this Tuna Jaw which is truly a rip-off! It costs about $240 but the size itself is TINY! If you have tried the Tuna Jaw from Sen-Ryo which only costs $180, Sen-Ryo's is at least 5 times as much as this stingy Yakitoritei's!

The worst was there was supposed to be 10% if you use American Express card. We were so planning on taking advantage of this special. It was 11.30pm and this stupid young waiter again "BOOM" came over and flipped the signage over again without saying a word. Ended up this special was supposed to be over after 10.30pm, without any special conditions written down nor warning by the waiters. When we asked this short hair mid-age lady why there was no warning or written down on the ad, she rudely answered, "because you guys didn't ask!!" What a stupid restaurant!

Food was okay, but honestly does NOT worthwhile for such horrible service. I have tried a lot of nice/pricey restaurant, this is one of the worst that I would actually sit down and write this to complain. Not worth it people.

Overall, the food was good. Some minor critiques are that the US Fillet wasn't very juicy, and may have tasted better if grilled with some butter; the bacon could have had more flavor to better balance the sweet tomato, and the special pork sausage could have been grilled a little longer to give it more robust texture, as it was rather soft. If you don't mind a little fat, I'd definitely recommend the Duck Breast w/ Onion -it tasted sooooo good! (We ordered another two sticks becuz it was so delicious) Every bite brought out wonderful juicy flavor, and the tender meat balanced well with the firm grilled onion. The Chicken w/ Onion was also very good as there was contrast: the outer skin was crispy and the inner meat was soft with flavor.

If you want a good late night meal/deal, then you should consider Yakitoritei.

日本甜蕃薯…最尾來個當甜品…真係非常甜!!...唯獨可惜係朋友的那一串, 有一個原來啖落有酸味, 可能不察覺變壞了!!...同服務生講, 佢地即表示歉意此項不收費!!...

雖然結尾有這個少少o既瑕疵…但我俩都覺可體諒接受…毋損印象!!...

食串燒,啤酒少不了,有兩款,麒麟啤買二送一,飲勝。不太記得係邊聽過,日本人食串燒係放工相聚,一幾串加杯啤酒啤一啤,香港人食串燒食到好似求簽禁,文化唔同,串燒當飯食,又好何呢?
