Shizuoka:
This shop is one of the restaurants under the "Nasubi" group. The group was founded in Shizuoka, Japan, more than 40 years ago. They have branches in Shanghai and Hangzhou as well. We've tried one of their restaurants in Shizuoka (Muan) various times so we were looking forward to trying this out.
The moment you walk into the restaurant you'll see a sashimi counter with about 12 seats. It must have at least 20 tables for four persons and one or more VIP rooms. The tables were placed fairly wide apart from each other.
The menu was in Japanese, Chinese and English. It was fairly comprehensive and included sashimi, sushi, soba, ochatsuke, tempura, various fried and grilled stuff.
They had really pricey items such as HK$150 for one piece of Ootoro sushi and HK$688 for 8 slices of maguro.
On the other hand, we were surprised to see that the dinner sets were very reasonable.
Lunch sets:
We ordered the signature "Nasubi Bento" and a "Maguro don" set.
First came the appetizers. Judging from the quality of the appetizers, we could sense a hint of kaiseki ryori. From top to bottom, it's a delicious mixture of marinated shiitake and other mushrooms, a very flavourful piece of tofu/egg mixture and finally some green peas and something which seemed like vermicelli in dashi (fish stock).
Unfortunately, the tea was very blad - definitely not from Shizuoka. My wife was not too happy about it. Luckily, the rest of the meal was good.
Maguro Don:
The set consisted of chawanmushi (steamed egg) and a bowl of miso soup.
The quality of the Japanese rice was also good. My wife was very happy with her don.
Nasubi Bento:
Level 1:
Clockwise starting at 12 o'clock: Smoked duck breasts, 3 types of mochi, egg roll, steamed pumpkin, marinated sardine, chicken marinated in tomato sauce, assorted sashimi (hamachi, akami and chutoro), fried minced fish/squid ball(?), miso sauce with clam and finally, chopped bean curd.
I was happy with all the above. The sashimi in particular was good.
Level 2:
Again, all these were elegantly presented. The fried sardine was very interesting.
Level 3:
Dessert:
Service was good and the price of the sets were very reasonable. The quality of the sashimi was good and made an impression.
I won't rule out another visit to try out their dinner sets or their sashimi/sushi.
Worth a try.
