I just can't seem to stay at home. While wandering around a while ago, I came across this place, and had planned to come with my sister, but since she is in Paris for work, I decided to visit without her. People came and left as I sat at the table. I liked the retro pictures and decorations that filled the faded walls. The atmosphere was really relaxing. I have never been to France before, so I wonder if this is what a restaurant there is like. Hygiene was good. Service:
The flow was very good. The staff managed the time nicely so that I had the right amount of time between courses.
Taste & Value:
Sets are offered at lunch time, with 2 courses ($128) or 3 courses ($148) available. Being me, of course I went for 3. My Lunch:
Complimentary Bread
Nothing beats warm bread fresh out of the oven! The bread was a sourdough baguette I believe. It was so soft inside, and the warmness of ithe bread just melted the butter. Starter: Calamari Salad
The calamari had a light batter and was not greasy at all. It was cooked perfectly and wasn't chewy. I liked it a lot with and without the "Big Mac" aioli on the side. The salad underneath was fresh, but had a bit too much parsley and oil for my taste. Main: Steak Frites
The steak was topped with two very skinny asparagus served along with a generous amount of skinny fries and Béarnaise sauce. The fries really were skinny as I needed to eat at least 3 at a time for me to feel it in my mouth. The fries were well- sesaoned, but a bit soft. The taste of the steak was good, but it had a lot of gristle, which I wasn't quite expecting. The Béarnaise on the side was good. I would describe it as very "dairy"tasting. I would have liked it even more if there were more herbs in it. Dessert: Daily Tarte ( Chocolate, Lemon or Caramel)
Chocolate is such a huge part of French Dessert, so I had to choose the chocolate choice. I was actually already very full when it came. A small scoop of vanilla ice-cream and raspberries were served with the tarte. I tried the dense tarte on its own, with the ice-cream and with the ice-cream+ raspberries together. However, on its own was my favourite way of eating it because I could focus on the chocolate. It was very chocolaty, and not very sweet. I thought it was very good. This course was my favourite. Final Verdict:
I enjoyed my food. I think this picture summarizes the culture of French food. Fresh Ingredients prepared carefully, and most importantly enjoyed with a smile.
