I came to Sen88 with a friend for dinner on a weekday night and it wasn't packed. The interior is clean, cozy yet spacious, with slightly dimmed lighting which made it pretty relaxing. We were seated by the bar, giving us a great view of our chef working his magic. He was friendly, dropped some jokes at times and also took extra caution preparing our food as I told him I had sesame oil/seed allergy. I find a lot of restaurants in Hong Kong aren't very sensitive towards allergies, so this time I
Now onto the food - my friend and I tried the Omakase and several of the special eel dishes. Firstly, the sashimi was fresh, well presented and just delicious - nothing to complain about really.

As for the eel dishes, it seems we were served an eel tempura and while the taste was good, the dish itself was rather greasy? The Grilled Fresh Eel on Crispy Rice was tasty too, but a little hard to chew and swallow. The Grilled Eel Rice Bowl was hearty and definitely felt filling since it was nearing the end of our meal. It felt like a healthy sort of dish, and I like the egg in it. However I think I'd enjoy it even more if the rice was sushi rice (including the seasoning and all). The meal was finished off with a Mashed Eel Tamago Sponge Cake - super interesting concept! We each had a delicate little piece of the cake and you really cannot taste even a hint of eel.
While the chef was great, I did find the waiters were lacking a little though. They were either too quick or too slow at taking away dishes and I would've preferred it if they explained what dishes they'd place down in front of us before walking away. Overall, it was a pleasant meal at this lovely restaurant, allowing me to have a nice catch up with my friend.
