A friend at work who lived in this area told me about a new place that had opened up called 營然 (English name: Still and Always) and the place served inexpensive healthy Chinese food. She told me it was pretty good. As I know she is very picky about what she eats, I decided to try it out.Located near the Fortress Hill MTR station, just behind the AIA building is a small shop. I almost walked by it as I couldn't find the name. I guess it's so new, they merely scratched off the previous shop's name
Located near the Fortress Hill MTR station, just behind the AIA building is a small shop. I almost walked by it as I couldn't find the name. I guess it's so new, they merely scratched off the previous shop's name. Inside, the restaurant wasn't very big. It had a few tables and was fairly cramped. At one corner, I saw a group of women making dumplings.
Menu was in English and Chinese. There is no 10% service charge. You pay and order at the cashier. They offer four different rice or noodles. Add a bit of money to add a daily homemade soup or double boiled soup. They even have snacks.
They also had dumplings which you can get as a set that comes with a drink. There is an option to add $8 for noodles. Noodles had a variety of choices, too, including spinach!
They have 6 choices of dumplings. And a daily dumpling flavor. Just ask what it is. On this day it was chives and pork.
They had four five different healthy drinks to choose from for the sets.
While we were thinking what to order, the staff gave us a sample of the daily soup. It was pretty delicious and rich in flavor. It was dried bok choy soup.
Shredded Chicken with Rice ($45). Boyfriend ordered a rice with shredded chicken. It arrived on a wooden tray.
The hand shredded chicken was delicious. Meat was not dry. It was coated well with sesame oil so it was absolutely fragrant. There was a bit of boiled vegetables as well.
Daily Chinese Stew Soup ($28 with meal). He added daily double boiled soup for $28. It was a pretty good portion so we could share. Todays soup was a snow fungus, cordycep, pork and chicken soup. The soup was fantastic. The broth was clear, yet rich. There as a lot of stuff found inside.
Mix Combo Dumplings (10 pieces) with Homemade Beverage ($56) with noodles ($8). I ordered this and chose a combination of two types of dumplings: mushrooms, corn and pork and tomato pork dumpings.
This is the tomato pork dumpling. This was amazing. The pork was juicy and further enhanced by the tartness of the tomato. The skin was so thin, you can see the color of the filling beneath.
The mushroom, corn and pork dumpling was ok. I liked the combination of sweet corn with pork meat.
For an additional $8, you can add a side of noodles. They have a choice between rice noodles, vermicelli, Shanghai noodles or spinach. I chose spinach. The noodles were an intense green color. They were smooth and had a nice spring to it when I bit into them. I think this is a great deal. The soup base appeared to have no MSG added as well.
Fig Pear Apple Tea. As my set came with a drink, this is what I chose as I often order this whenever I see it. This was sweet with the taste of apples and pears. There were also chunks of pear found in it so I could chew on it.
While we were eating, my friend who lived nearby came in with her child. So, I grabbed a couple of their dumplings as she ordered just the 10 dumpling combo with a drink.
This is the cordyceps flower pork dumplings. There were bits of cordyceps found in it so if you love this then definitely for you.
They also have a daily dumpling. On this day it was pork and chives. This was absolutely fantastic.
The skin was so thin and the filling was jam packed with chives.
Begonia Fimbristipula Hawthorn. As she had the combo dumplings with a drink, she had this drink. It was a bit more sour than most other places that sell this as they do not add any additional sugar.
This is a really fabulous place. The food was healthy and delicious. I love dumplings and these were wonderfully made. The only qualm was they used a lot of tossable materials despite eating in. But I'd be back, especially since it's only a 10 minute tram ride from my home.
