I'm a huge fan of spicy food. However, most spicy food you can find in Hong Kong isn't properly Sichuan or Hunan spicy but a toned-down Cantonese version. Having told my friend that I love spicy food, he took me to this restaurant today. He claimed this is the real, authentic Sichuan stuff. And boy was I in for a surprise. We arrived shortly after 12:00 we before the lunch crowd arrived. Having told my friend that I love spicy food, he took me to this restaurant today. He claimed this is the real, authentic Sichuan stuff. And boy was I in for a surprise.

We arrived shortly after 12:00 we before the lunch crowd arrived. We were lucky and got a table immediately.

I ordered the dan-dan noodles with "saliva chicken" (口水鸡) together with a cucumber soy milk and a "Sichuan Penna Cotta" as desert.

You can choose four out of four different spicy ratings with 1 being the most mild version and 4 being the "I'm burning your face away" spicy option. I decided to go with 3 out of 4 and I wasn't let down down... It was a proper Sichuan spicy experience with the spices hitting you half way through until you feel the "numb" from the peppers at the end. I couldn't feel my tongue (I was afraid I accidentally swallowed it in between), my lips were on fire, just how Iove it. Great stuff.

The cucumber soy milk was just right. Normally, mix soy drinks tend to be either too toned down, i.e. you don't really taste the ingredient apart from the soy or they overdose it and you can't taste the soy. This one stroke a nice balance.

What completely blew me away is the Chilli Penna Cotta. It's not really that spicy but it gives you the same Sichuan pepper experience where your throat gets numbed after you eat it. I haven't had food as exciting as this since I tried 白酒 ice cream at a distillery in Taiwan 10 years ago.

Definitely worth a visit. Whenever I'm back to Causeway Bay, I'll go to this place for lunch or dinner.
