Strolling around Sai Kung Town on a fine Spring day is bound to make anyone hungry. With the plethora of choices in the small hamlet, it’s hard to know where to go. Should I nestle up seaside and enjoy the Chinese-style Seafood restaurants? Perhaps the main square with several Western restaurants? Even considering the question worked up an appetite. So it was with great joy that I spied the outdoor picnic tables in front of Casa Sai Kung. So it was with great joy that I spied the outdoor picnic tables in front of Casa Sai Kung. Mid-day wasn’t too busy so we grabbed a few tapas to enjoy as the sea air blew past us. We chose Buffalo Cauliflower with Bleu Cheese Sauce, 60HKD to start. The cauliflower is covered (not drenched) in a buffalo sauce that is generally mild to the taste. Consistency of the cauliflower was ok…it would have been a bit nicer had it retained a bit more of it’s crunch, but all in all the dish was good, and the bleu cheese dip paired nicely with the cauliflower.

Next, we tried the Okonomiyaki, 70HKD. As a true Japanese lover (I lived in Hiroshima for 2+ years, a city renowned for it’s okonomiyaki), these did NOT do it for me. But the sauce was authentic and the presentation was nice, so I forgave the flavour, especially since Casa is not a Japanese restaurant. Valiant effort.

Beer was out of the question at the time, but it was good to see they had a decent beer selection. I can see how Casa could be a great place to hang out with friends and pass the time munching on reasonably-sized tapas and delightful drinks. I may just have to visit once more.
