I just wanted to write you an email to express my disappointment in the Valentines Day menu my girlfriend and I had.
Just to give you some background, I have been to many French restaurants in and outside of France, in fact I have lived in Bordeaux for over a yr and have sampled some great French food and wine.
I know it has been some time since the date but it has given me some time to think. The appetiser was probably the tastiest course on the menu (asparagus soup and salmon mousse). The Lobster ravoli was actually OK, however the ravoli skin looked like it was made from the same skin with which you make a chinese dumpling. The oyster mousse I thought tasted very synthetic (what fresh ingredient was mixed with the fresh oysters to make it taste like that) - not sure why it wasnt kept simple by just serving an oyster. The foie gras cappucino with the sweet sauce I really disliked, the wrapped pig trotter meat had hard pieces of fat in that I left on my plate. The mint and cucumber granita was excellent however, very fresh indeed. Finally the brioche with the chestnut paste I also did not like at all - the cheese was real bad (was that actually cheese?) and the chestnut paste did not complement whatsoever the small inch sized 'cheesy brioche'. The dessert was great however.
To add to the discontent - the above experience passed over an agonising 3.5 hours - I couldn't wait to leave.
All in all, the whole experience was seriously below par, especially for the price of approximately HKD3,500. I have mentioned this dreadful meal to friends and, given what they said, I may give 'Chez Patrick' the benefit of the doubt that you were trying something different for Valentines and that the menu served is not typical of the Chez Patrick style.
However given the quality of the food and the price tag I certainly shall not be coming back nor shall I have you in mind as a recommendation.
