Dinner. Westernized izakaya. PickyEater was surprised that I’ve never been, considering it was one of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants a long time ago. Loud music playing.
Didn’t like the wine list.
Went for a glass of Chardonnay that gave me a headache after. PickyEater was on detox.
Here’s what we had.
Appetizers: Cherry tomatoes. Very refreshing.
Dry Aged Threadfin Bream with Cilantro.
Mandarin miso as sauce.
Smoked Beer Battered Amadai. Kewpie mayonnaise with maple. Came with 2 shots of black beer. Quite an interesting idea- too bad we weren’t really beer fans.
Tokyo Turnip with Chorizo in Garlic Miso. Chorizo was surprisingly not spicy; didn’t like the turnip tho- too bitter and slightly peppery.
Grilled smoked Yellowtail Collar.
Skewer of Pork Belly stuffed with Japanese ginger. Similar sweetish marinade as the collar.
Passed on Dessert, as the only available option was the sweet potato.
In summary: everything tasted similar with strong flavors, probably best for those ordering loads of drinks. Not good for groups more than 2 tho, difficult to chat with the narrow bar seating.
