Shek Kip Mei is an interesting neighbourhood. It seems to have a mix of things. Every so often, boyfriend and I would head here to see the art exhibitions found at the nearby JCCAC. As we were here that day, we stopped here for some food before heading onwards.南豐餐廳 (no English name) is a typical cha chan teng. It's located inside a public housing complex. 南豐餐廳 (no English name) is a typical cha chan teng. It's located inside a public housing complex. There are actually a lot of other places to eat but we normally eat at another place called 品香樓中西風味餐廳 (Ban Heung Lau in English) but it wasn't open. I guess they are only open at night? Having no real choice, we entered.
We were there right when afternoon tea session had started so we ordered off that. Prices are fairly cheap. Everything was under $30. Menu is in Chinese only. All tea sets come with a drink. Adding $3 for cold.
I chose this. Something I oddly order a lot in cha chan tengs. Perhaps it has items I love: chicken wings and Hong Kong style potato salad. This place also offers a side of fries as well. Price? $27. The fries unfortunately, were fried not once but twice or probably three times or more. They were fried so many times, they were dried out. There were four chicken wings so a fairly decent portion size. But the wings were also fried so long that they were also dried out to the point of crunchy. The salad had way too much mayo and there wasn't anything other than potatoes and one cucumber. May be inexpensive but not very good. No wonder upon exploring the other restaurants in this building complex, this place was fairly quiet. We should have followed the residents.
