I love Japanese food and have been trying to find a great, boisterous and rowdy Japanese restaurant with good cooked food as well as sushi on the Hong Kong side. (my favorite Kenjo in TST was not too easy to go to on a weekday dinner given that I live on HK side)... and then I found Tensho....On the night I went, it was filled completely with a good mix of Japanese and Hong Kong clientele, all of them seemed to be having a fun time. On the night I went, it was filled completely with a good mix of Japanese and Hong Kong clientele, all of them seemed to be having a fun time. I manage to get seats at the sushi bar and ordered a sushi set and tonkatsu japanese black pork. Food did take a while. When our sushi came, we were pleasantly surprised but the freshness of the sushi, the thick cuts and superior texture (none of that veiny stuff you get some times). The sushi rice was fantastic too, just the right level of tartness. The sushi plate came with Toro, Botan Ebi, Uni, Ikura, Hamachi, Toro Temaki, Crab leg. Not too many pieces for the price we paid (HK$320) but they were all very delicious!
Tonkatsu was good but I would say that Tonkichi still does the best Katsu in town. But this was not bad. Very crispy and fragrant but the meat was a little tough.
There were a lot of dishes that were interesting which i would love to come back to try again - like anago tempura, shabu shabu of pork intestines (hmmm curious....)...
Service was ok. The waiters and waitresses were very serious and did not seem to be the bubbly happy sort but they did their job well. I guess they must be very swamped serving a very full restaurant!
I love this place and would definitely come back again.
