有時候越神秘就越令我想入非非,這間餐廳瑟縮於一條冷巷內,從繁華的街道轉入來是有一點驚訝的,可是當踏進餐廳範圍時,又有另一種感覺,氣氛十分熱鬧,店內坐滿了客人,配合有紐約街頭特色的裝飾及塗鴉,的確增添多一份興奮的感覺。來得這個地方,為的就是一杯能解千愁的雞尾酒,其實只是一個玩笑,因為早已聽說他們調酒師所調出來的雞尾酒很好喝,如果未喝過,又怎可說曾到訪過。小弟喜歡刺激,點上的充滿墨國風情的辣雞尾酒– Picante Verde,入口有清新的青瓜香味,陣陣辣味從中滲出。另一杯紅噹噹的就是Fresca,由西瓜、青檸、蜜糖及琴酒調成,入口甜美又清新。既然是墨西哥餐廳,當然不能錯過Nachos,這個Nachos de Molcajete絕對不普通,用料非常豐富,除了一般的材料外,還加添了幾串烤蝦串及牛肉串,份量驚人,一邊喝酒,一邊吃就適合不過了。Ox-tail Croquetas十分適合佐酒,外脆內軟,有著柔滑的薯蓉,還有一絲絲的肉絲,相當惹味。可是,更令人感覺到好吃的是Home Beet Fries,用上的不是薯仔,不是蕃薯,也不會是芋頭,而是紅菜頭,我也是第一次品嚐到,可是卻已經深深愛上了,脆

來得這個地方,為的就是一杯能解千愁的雞尾酒,其實只是一個玩笑,因為早已聽說他們調酒師所調出來的雞尾酒很好喝,如果未喝過,又怎可說曾到訪過。小弟喜歡刺激,點上的充滿墨國風情的辣雞尾酒
– Picante Verde,入口有清新的青瓜香味,陣陣辣味從中滲出。另一杯紅噹噹的就是Fresca,由西瓜、青檸、蜜糖及琴酒調成,入口甜美又清新。

既然是墨西哥餐廳,當然不能錯過Nachos,這個Nachos de Molcajete絕對不普通,用料非常豐富,除了一般的材料外,還加添了幾串烤蝦串及牛肉串,份量驚人,一邊喝酒,一邊吃就適合不過了。

Ox-tail Croquetas十分適合佐酒,外脆內軟,有著柔滑的薯蓉,還有一絲絲的肉絲,相當惹味。可是,更令人感覺到好吃的是Home Beet Fries,用上的不是薯仔,不是蕃薯,也不會是芋頭,而是紅菜頭,我也是第一次品嚐到,可是卻已經深深愛上了,脆身爽口,還很juicy,真是一道很難得的小吃,值得一試。

此時,Watermelon Salad來得合時,吃過這麼多的熱氣小吃後,總有點清涼的菜式,雖然夠清新,但卻帶上少許的辣味,令人胃口大開。

小吃還是不夠喉,順道再來一些。Mexican-style Street Corn有幾地道,小弟不知道,只知道絕對是一道味道濃厚的菜式,粟米表面已經黏滿酸忌廉、辣椒蛋黃醬、墨西哥辣汁及巴馬臣芝士,入口芝味豐富,辣勁迴揚,具層次的表現。

與此同時,牛油果在墨西哥菜中是不可或缺的,差不多總會用上,而這道Chupacabras就直接以牛油果混合海鮮及調味,再釀回果皮上來焗,香口好吃,不過整體來說,有點膩滯,上一支粟米,後一個牛油果,基本上已經很飽肚了。

始終小吃還小吃,先來多一盤Tacos Platter,是整晚最為失色的,粟米餅皮很軟很腍身,沒有咬口,而且也沒有足夠的承托力,幸好的是鴨肉及蝦肉的款式味道不錯。

最後就以Daily Pescado來作結,由於是是日推介,魚款每天不同,今天剛好是盲鰽,魚肉細緻嫩滑,魚皮輕油鬆脆,絕對是一道出色的烤魚。

This place is totally overpriced!  Looking at their menu it's shocking how much they charge for their drinks and dishes!  A glass of Margarita they charge HKD110 it's more expensive than everywhere else in LKF!  The food is not Mexican, it just *looks like* Mexican.  For the local Hongkongers who have never been to Mexico or even Texas, perhaps you can fool them. The taste is awful!  I ordered a tacos for HKD65 and they serve only 1 piece of tacos! Miserbly presented in the plate. That pork taco

The food is not Mexican, it just *looks like* Mexican.  For the local Hongkongers who have never been to Mexico or even Texas, perhaps you can fool them. The taste is awful!  I ordered a tacos for HKD65 and they serve only 1 piece of tacos! Miserbly presented in the plate. That pork tacos has a strange fancy name. They put 2 thin slices of pork fat on it then there are some popcorn-ish sweet and sour crunchy stuff.  Absolutely disgusting!  That one small piece of tacos I could't even finish.  Had to throw away half.  It's prpbably the most pathetic tacos I've every had in my life!

The main dish I ordered a Mole chicken.  When I saw the menu I was nicely surprised as in HK it's very rare to find Mole. But when the dish came I was totally disappointed.  They apparently added extra sugar in the Mole sauce, probably to suit Hongkonger's palate. The chicken itself is as chewy as rubber. Even hard to cut with a knife!  The coleslaw on the side is mushy greasy overly sweet, even mixed with raisins -- I wonder who came up with that idea!  Again the main dish was a throw away.

The music is ultra loud.  It's like a night club.  Not a restaurant.  If people come here just for a drink probably they don't mind. But sitting here to dine it's just a torture.  You can't talk without shouting.  My throat sores after the dinner!

Total waste of money and time!

自家製玉米片薄脆而不油膩,層層疊般夾著黑豆茸、牛油果醬、酸忌廉、番茄沙沙和芝士醬,吃起來味道豐富但也錯綜複雜;燒海蝦串雖不及鮮蝦般鮮甜,但吃起來還是爽口的,肉眼串燒則顯得較為乾身。

吃墨西哥菜,Tacos 是不可或缺的菜式,淺嚐了兩款 Tacos,可惜如上回來吃一樣,Taco始終敗筆於自家製玉米餅不夠鬆軟,吃起真有點乾,可惜呢。

個人本來也並非很好這墨西哥朱古力雞,皆因醬汁味道的確濃郁得要蓋過雞肉自身的味道,所以也不便評論,不過這兒的過上煎雞排,總算肉嫩多汁。

吃墨西哥菜的尾聲,當然少不了這老外油炸鬼,可惜實在超級硬。。。

雖然食物味道不盡如人意,但或許是因為我沒到過墨西哥而不懂什麼是好東西罷了,而且這兒的確蠻有氣氛的,也可說是個happy hour不錯的選擇。

先來一些小食熱身。

第一款是吞拿魚與三文魚子的配搭,口感摻著軟、彈和脆;在味道方面,鹹香的魚子與醃製過的辣椒、酸菜,Cumin Guajillo Oil 和 Chipotle Dressing, 構成豐富和複雜的組合,不過味道卻來得輕柔,相信是要將魚香托出,更要避免喧賓奪主。最後加上鬆脆的餅底,口感層次突出,但又能帶出清新的感覺!

既然喜歡牛油果,當然不能錯過 Chupacabras。將牛油果釀入蟹肉、帶子和辣椒忌廉醬,並在面層鋪上 Manchego 芝士和日本麵包屑、再以慢煮方式烹調,最後放上青檸忌廉和芫荽。吃時用茶羮舀出,表層非常香脆,而餡料香氣撲鼻,質感滑溜,非常美味!不過牛油果也帶有膩意,半個的份量已很足夠了!

嚐了不少厚重的味道,這道紅綠交錯的西瓜沙律來得正好。青瓜爽脆中帶有淡淡的檸檬酸味,配上多汁的西瓜,南瓜子,再以辣椒糖漿和薄荷來調味,一咬有著來得及時的清新和爆汁的甜美,個人覺得它是「Brickhouse」必吃的菜式!

Brickhouse Magarita 喝得差不多了,換來了熱帶形象的 Cabuno。Cabuno 像載上了草帽似的,原來是用來保存杯內的煙燻味道,看看左手邊那杯明顯有著煙霧!打開杯子一嗅,煙燻味道突出,入口酸甜夾雜果香、酒香和煙燻香氣,愈飲愈覺合意,下次再到「Brickhouse」,一定要再回味!

最後的 Chili Garlic Shishitos 令肚皮脹脹兼眼皮垂下的我們精神為之一振。 一咬青椒極度的鹹與酸,相信亦能有著酒醒的作用,非常攪笑!

這條後巷的入口很好認,從德忌笠街直上,左邊有一個賣手袋的小檔子,從高高懸掛的手袋那處直入便是了,感受令人印象難忘的後巷墨記!

首款登場是墨西哥菜不可或缺的栗米脆片,搭上莎莎醬汁、芝士醬、香醇酸忌廉、混合檸檬汁打碎的牛油果,當中還夾雜了黑豆蓉跟紅蔥頭,新鮮濕潤的醬汁平衡了硬脆的玉米片,每一口醬汁都散發著墨西哥獨特風味,真叫人停不了口。

墨西哥卷餅Tacos 是以小麥粉或玉米粉製成的薄餅,餡料可選蝦肉、豬肉、雞肉、魚肉及新口味的鴨肉,用上大量墨西哥醬汁,最後捲起吃,小小的一塊,份量剛好,很受女士歡迎。當晚選了味道比較濃郁的鴨肉口味,肉質尚嫩,滿口油香,為傳統的墨西哥卷餅多添份亞洲風味。

歡樂時光過後,穿過這片「石屎竹林」,又再次回到德己立街的斜路上。難得在紙醉金迷的中環發現了神秘磚屋,吃過令人歡愉的異國美食,捧著肚子離開,找到回家的路,體驗了一次富神秘色彩的美味之旅。

As soon as I enter this down-to-earth bar, with loud music dropping and lots of exciting laughters from the crowd, I definitely agree that it is a hip and funky brick-and-mortar house.
Brickhouse, is a Mexican joint that offers broad-ranging cocktails and handful of Mexican foods. Deviate from the usual burrito and guacamole with chips, their menu covers a vast majority of vegetarians to other dietary-specified dishes made sinfully addicting with elevating flavors and presented on contrasty colourful plates.
One of the much-loved choices is the Mexican style street corn. Generously covered with shredded parmesan cheese, chili mayo and hot sauce, a squeeze of lime has optionally enlightened the heaviness of the corn on cob that is actually very sweet.
The beetroot fries are fried to perfection that reminds me of sweet potato fries, with natural sweetness coming through the crispy and pipingly hot coating.
Highlight of the night is the Molcajete nachos served in a huge, heavy and warm stone mortar.
While it is typically used to grind fresh herbs and spices such as cloves or peppercorn, there are mashed black beans and chili cheese sauce covered by corn chips that are further topped with creamy guacamole, sour cream, spicy tomato salsa and four skewers to comprehend an explosive flavor in the mouth.
To follow, watermelon and feta salad impresses for the caramelized pumpkin seeds, for which they are also called pepitas; and the taco platters that come with six batter-fried fish fillets, soft flour tortillas and thick cut avocado slices.
The incredible feast also ends with a rude chocolate fondant. The gluten-free molten cake has an oozy filling flowing over to be accompanied by their house-made vanilla ice cream, from there I can feel a hint of aftertaste from the chili.
Factor to its no fuss and friendly vibes, it is the perfect venue to unwind a great night in the city.

估唔到步行入個冷行會有間咁型嘅餐廳。其實幾鍾意去啲好曹嘅餐廳,因為一大班朋友出去食飯一定大聲講大聲笑,去呢間找啱晒!永遠都起碼等兩粒鐘,但係要食好野緊係要等㗎啦!等咗咁耐第一時間就要get a drink, 呢杯有煙出㗎,開頭好似食啲香煙味,但係飲落甜甜哋,都啱女仔飲。我最鍾意食玉米,好香口,正!仲有一定要食tacos,叫晒就可以食哂所有肉。啲waiter好nice,知道我地有人生日,好識do請我哋飲shots,多謝!

The Place: Brickhouse is the name of this marvelous Mexican restaurant and bar inconspicuously located on No. 20 D’Aquilar Street in the heart of Hong Kong’s party mile Lan Kwai Fong (LKF).

Brickhouse belongs to Maximal Concepts. Maximal Concepts is an empire owned by a bunch of Chinese, Canadians, Americans etc. that deal with Property, Lifestyle and F&B. Bars and restaurants belonging to this group include Fish & Meat, Stockton, DoubleD, Mott 32, Hawless, Lime and many many more…

Mexican is a flavour that is very much appreciated in Hong Kong; there are quite a lot of Mexican restos that have been in business for a while, and there are constantly new ones popping up and then closing down again; a new Mexican chain that seems to be doing pretty well is Cali-Mex, which cannot be compared to Brickhouse at all as it is a Tex-Mex fast-food chain and not really a restaurant, but I have to admit that there concept seems to be working for the time being. Having said all of this, in my opinion, all of these other wanna-be Mexican eateries are not able to hold a candle to Brickhouse in terms of food, beverage, ambiance, and uniqueness.

Brickhouses décor consisting of a red brick wall alongside colourful graffiti paintings (by local artists) and its scruffy-looking furniture make the place look pretty hip and funky in a unique kind of way. Loud music is blasted out at a high volume making you want to dance and sing along with it. The staff was super cool and super chatty and seemed to be having a blast while serving customers and keeping the place in order.

The Food & Beverage: I paid Brickhouse a visit yesterday again as I had a friend from Italy in town. I was not planning to go out that night, so I decided to send my friend to Brickhouse as I reckoned it was a good spot for him to have good food, some decent drinks and chat with some nice people. Anyways, I surprised my friend and arrived when he had already ordered, gotten and eaten half of his food. He ordered Pollo as a main and nachos-chips with creamy guacamole and salsa fresca (home-made tomatoe-onion salsa, spicy) on the side which he all downed with a Mexican bottled beer.

Brickhouse’s food and drinks are absolutely amazing; I usually order all kinds of tapas so that I can choose a handful of different dishes and share them with others instead of ordering a main.

Upon my arrival, I first ordered a Diabla for us, which is a cocktail comprising vodka, jalapeños, raspberries, pomegranate and lemon; this beverage is refreshing, fruity and spicy with a subtle chillie kick (my all time favourite at Brickhouse).

We soon switched to Margharitas which are made slightly differently at Brickhouse as they somewhat add Pineapple juice to it.

I did not order any food that day, and only spooned up my friends’ salsa fresca and guacamole, and must have looked very starved or something….Brickhouses’ staff let me try 12 hours slow-cooked beef shortrib which was beautifully tender and kind of sweet, cooked in a brown sugar reduction, served with mash. I was hardly required to bite it - absolutely divine and mouthwatering. I mentioned before that I usually go for different kinds of tapas, next time I’ll have that lump of meat by myself instead.

Obviously, staff at Brickhouse is very assertive and customer-oriented ;-) Soon after having tried the meat, we downed a few Tequilas with them, and then continued with some more Cocktails whose names I forgot. All very yummy.

The ambiance at Brickhouse was very vibrant though it was around midnight on a Monday morning. There was a group consisting of 4 Chinese men around 32 of age that wet their noses at Brickhouse almost every night of the week after work; they kept drinking Tequila shots after Tequila shots…….it was so funny to watch them; we almost joined in.

The Price: Prices are reasonable at Brickhouse; it is not cheap to eat or drink there, but taking everything into account, from the delicious food, tasty cocktails, friendly and fun waiters, super upbeat tunes, artistic design, great service without adding extra service charges, I believe that it is absolutely worth it to pay Brickhouse regular visits.

Bottom-Line: It went to Brickhouse on several occasions, and it has become one of my favourite places to eat and/or drink in Hong Kong. I am a regular guest already ;-) Say Hi next time you see me.

首次來中環蘭桂芳的Brickhouse,朋友已預告這個地方很隱蔽,但對於從來搵路未失手過的我跟本未能聽入耳,我們滿有信心的依著Google Map找,在蘭桂芳德己笠街一帶來回走了數遍,再把蘭桂芳的所有街道通通走過,還是找不到,原來這個潮人新蒲點隱藏於漆黑的後巷,絕對充滿香港本土特色,也很吻合墨西哥菜味道,要尋找這間被形容為third culture kid club的食店,最簡單的提示是於中環蘭桂芳入口的米蘭站往後再走,十步以內,會見到掛滿手袋的路邊小店,這便是Brickhouse的入口,行過漆黑後巷,便看到Brickhouse,內裹九成是外國人,感覺像身處New York或London,很funky,很hip。提意選small dishes便可以一次過嘗試多種口味菜式,推介Guacamole and salsa, Tuna Tostada, Home Beet Fries, Give a Cluck,而一定一定要留空間給dessert,Chili-Spiked Chocolate Cake絕對不可不吃,甜中帶著小小辣味,很有驚喜。Guacamole and salsaGive A C

Hidden inside an alley (a popular choice amongst restaurants trying to achieve exclusivity), you'll really need to do some research or tag along with your trendy friends that know it all in order to find it.
The absence of a line is very deceiving. After walking up to ask for a table, we were told we have to wait for 60 minutes. Normally I would have just called it a night and hopped into the next nearest restaurant. However, since it was surrounded by an array of bars, we enjoyed happy hour whilst waiting for their call.
Once we managed to get a table, we instantly ordered the watermelon cocktail (the Fresca). Sweet yet tart, it's actually stronger than it tastes. Don't choose to down it all in one go, it's lethal.
We ordered the Mexican style street corn, guacamole, tortilla soup, taco platter, and the scallop tostada. The scallop tostada was really interesting, since it incorporated traditional Mexican cuisine with an Asian twist. The Mexican style street corn was also something I would recommend ordering if you want something that's not so mainstream.
However, the tacos were the downfall of the meal. Tacos are the epitome of Mexican food, but sadly I would say the tacos here are nothing too special. It tasted good, but it's really hard to make a bad taco. The challenge is making a taco that would stir up your cravings when you haven't had a taco for a long time. The same can be said for the guacamole.
If you want to hang out with the cool kids, then this is the place for you. Just not a must go in terms of food.

十月下旬•晴今晚有節目,但先在蘭桂坊的這個熱蒲點吃東西。在一輪正宗墨西哥菜式急攻後,肉類主莱卻來了一件極具份量的慢煮牛肋骨。用上的是安格斯黑牛,拿去慢煮46小時。逾五寸厚的牛肋肉卻是鬆化軟滑且肉味濃郁。只賣$298一客,夠二至三人吃!單是為了這味牛肋骨也值得再來一次。

來到主菜部份,我們試了較有特色的慢煮羊肉。

Barbacoa Tacos ($285)
羊腿肉經過二十四小時慢煮,質感軟腍且沾滿濃濃的醬汁,羶味近乎其微;跟墨西哥芝士 queso fresco 、小蘿蔔牛油果醬和其他配料一併夾在 tortilla 薄餅裡,再灑上少許青檸汁,份量十足的 taco 薄餅卷就此誕生了!

Rojas Con Crema ($65)
伴菜是芝香誘人、creamy 幼滑的羊奶芝士 Manchego,加上洋蔥和青椒,味道更富層次,而且沒有羶味,配搭軟身的 tortilla 薄餅固然不錯,我卻認為它跟香脆的 tortilla chips 更為合襯呢!

So far 每一道菜式都令人滿意,希望甜品不會破壞這頓美好的晚餐吧。。。

Chili-Spiked Chocolate Cake ($75)
朱古力心太軟的變奏版,流心度不俗,最初只有香濃的可可味,慢慢卻滲出淡淡的辣味,再吃一口冰涼的雲呢拿雪糕,辣味已被完全蓋過。挺有特色的,可以一試。

Coconut Rice Tamale ($85)
感覺就像泰式的椰汁糯米,不過這裡的來得更精緻花巧,煙煙韌韌的糯米飯沾滿椰漿,並混入粟米粒來增添口感,加上羊奶焦糖和充滿酒香的雪糕,每一口盡是幸福甜蜜的感覺!

沒想過在這小小的磚屋裡,可以品嚐到這般有水準的墨西哥菜,甚至令我對墨西哥菜改觀!不知不覺的愛上了 BRICKHOUSE ----- 改天我會再回來的!

I had a really hard time trying to find Brickhouse. Literally wandering around the corner with google map opened knowing I was in the right area, but just not seeing it was hugely frustrating. Until I looked up some other reviews did I realise it was hidden inside an alley obscured by a man selling bags on the wall...The restaurant is really dark, rough and unpolished, but the vibe is quite funky which I suppose is quite suitable for Mexican food.The watermelon salad was something I really wante

The restaurant is really dark, rough and unpolished, but the vibe is quite funky which I suppose is quite suitable for Mexican food.

The watermelon salad was something I really wanted to try and judging by the many plates prepared in front of me it was something that was quite popular. I also wanted to try their tacos which is written on the wall, they have a platter of all the flavours, but you can also order them separately. Asking for recommendations on which one to have, the server suggested the rib-eye and pulled pork.

The salad arrived first, 16 cubes of juicy watermelon scattered with feta cheese, candid pepitas and drizzled with chili syrup. The sweetness of the watermelon coupled with the tart feta was a little strange at first, but the flavours really grew on me and the pepitas were addictive with a lovely roasted flavour.

The corn tortillas for the tacos are freshly griddled so you do need to be patient for your tacos. The rib-eye was tender with a layer of cheese on top, so it was sort of like a philly cheesesteak, but Mexican style. The amount of pulled pork on my other taco was generous, laid on a bed of corn salsa and topped with a single slice of avocado, it was filling, but I could not really taste any strong flavours from it.

Service was prompt and surprisingly attentive. The whole experience was quite interesting, but need to come back for other dishes.

這份是羊腿肉,大大一盤滿載配料,用薄餅包著 Queso Fresco Cheese 來吃,芝士味比羊肉味濃烈,怕羶人士也不怕吃這個。至於我自己?我會想它更羶一點,羊肉不羶,男人不愛嘛。

其實好喜歡墨西哥食物, rough得嚟有點wild, 沒想到中環的黑巷裡面有一間hidden gem, 和兩位猛男安排晚餐, 我想他們應該會喜歡, 但如果沒有去過, 真的有點難找, 因為我之前去過一間在旁邊的上海私房菜, 所以我才知道怎樣去, 真的有別有洞天的感覺, 很難想像這樣的黑巷裡可以set up到一間餐廳, 但餐廳內的裝修及擺設都是酒吧一樣, 伴著音樂, very relaxing! 我們看著Menu, 有點疑惑, 太多太亂不知怎樣選, 經侍應介紹, 我們各自點了示同特色的Cocktail及一些特色菜! Cocktail的名已經忘記了, 但記得有一杯是有Chili, interesting! 先來一個西瓜沙律, 沒有什麼, 只是西瓜加上水牛芝士吧!再來是烤玉米, 好好味, 粟米很甜, 外面有碎芝士, 不好芝士的我也很喜歡, 好惹味! 還有一個炸紅菜頭, 忘了拍照, 但喜出望外咁好食, 因為本人有點抗拒紅菜頭, 老是覺得有些草青味, 但這裡做的很好, 有一層薄薄的脆漿, 內裡是很甜的紅菜頭, 配上沙律汁, 很夾! 墨西哥菜一定食taco, 粟米餅包著肉絲菜絲辣椒, 肉絲煮得入味

 肉絲煮得入味, 正! 仲有一個是粟米餅上面有的三款不同小食, 好特色! 甜品竟然是心太軟, 但是辣版, 有輕微的辣味, 過癮!
