Thank goodness I made a reservation earlier in the afternoon, and was told there is only a free table for 2 at 9pm, which wasn't too bad considering we were supposed to meet at 8:30pm anyway. The place was small with a few tables filled with chatty girls and not a guy in sight, I guess this is because the atmosphere and decor feels like a girls' night out or sleepover. There was one girl manning the drinks bar, churning out delicious drinks, ladling out the clam chowder soup, taking orders, clearing up the tables, and doing her utmost to cope. It was good that we sat near to the drinks bar so we helped ourselves to glasses and water from the bottle.
The set menu had ABCD meals, with soup of the day to start with (clam chowder was a little watery but tasted OK, with 4 clams swimming in the coffee mug that they served it with). My friend ordered the set with pork cutlet and spaghetti in tomato and basil sauce ($102), and I ordered the fish and chips with caesar salad ($106), with tea/coffee/coke included but it's so worth it to add $16 to upgrade to my lazy aloha (mango, frozen watermelon and grapefruit juice crush) or my friend's school bus (oreo cookies, banana, skim milk, yoghurt). The most popular drink tonight seemed to be the Finland carnival with frozen strawberry, banana and grapefruit juice.
We were forewarned by previous reviewers that the food takes ages, and ours was no exception, the food took almost an hour to arrive, by which time we were starved and tucked happily into the food. The pork cutlet was breaded and quite tender, with a hearty portion of spaghetti in a nice tomato sauce and wasn't greasy at all. The caesar salad was fresh with a nice dijon mustard mayonnaise sauce. The tartar sauce complimented the cod well, noting that the batter was quite light and fried to a crispy golden brown.
There are also a la carte pastas and pizzas for around $65-75. We didn't bother with desserts as it was almost 11pm, and anyway the main course was quite big and we left feeling sated.
