We miss the old The Chippy near Stanley St, I meant the old days, not the one changed hands and near the ending days.Been customer then friend to Hooked: spent leisure time there with chips and DIY chip butty - yes they let you enjoy yourself!The NZ Blue cod is juicy, and the crust is about right - not too thick or thin, not oily, and won't ruin the taste of fish. You could have bottled soft drinks and Organic Lemonade / Ginger Beer which are both too good to be true - a rare pick among chippys

The NZ Blue cod is juicy, and the crust is about right - not too thick or thin, not oily, and won't ruin the taste of fish. You could have bottled soft drinks and Organic Lemonade / Ginger Beer which are both too good to be true - a rare pick among chippys here.
Would say if you compare Hooked to famed chippy in London, there's still room for improvement but then this is HK! They give you quality fish, decent cooked product and Pukka pies and homemade tattar sauce, what else could you expect there?
After 2yrs, I wish it would stay forever. Love the owner - just forgot his name now

I live by this place and always pass by. I couldn't really tell what they sold from the outside, but after a friend told me about the place a couple of weeks ago, I decided to give it a try and was pleasantly surprised. Probably the first, if not the only, New Zealand fish and chips place around here. And it was surprisingly good. The fish was crispy and fresh and came with an abundance of chips (or fries) and a soda, all for a value of $65 HKD (less than $10 USD). It's really a great deal! I al

Probably the first, if not the only, New Zealand fish and chips place around here. And it was surprisingly good. The fish was crispy and fresh and came with an abundance of chips (or fries) and a soda, all for a value of $65 HKD (less than $10 USD). It's really a great deal! 

I also tried the Aussie meat pie, which was a bit small, but very tasty. 

I'd definitely recommend trying this place out!!

我在英國認識的 Fish & Chips Shop 是怎樣的?  Fish & Chips 香港已經有不少，但這店有什麼東西吸引到我停下腳步而入店呢? 答案就是身一個我熟識的食物品牌《Pukka Pies》。在英國，大大小小的 Fish & Chips，很少會自家製批，除了連鎖店麵包店《Greggs Bakery》會有自家製英式批可以即叫即買即食外，一般的店，不是賣《Hollands Pies》就是《Pukka Pies》。這三家批的品牌，可以說是英國的權威，而《Hollands Pies》更是批業的行頭。

 在店外看了《Hooked》的簡單介紹，得知這是一間來自紐西蘭的 Fish & Chips。會有新鮮感嗎? 我可以說是不會的，因為，澳紐兩地的 Fish & Chips 文化是源於英國的，所以，當我看見牆上 menu 時，感覺份外的溫暖。

 小店，不設客座，立食位倒是有兩個。不過，若多有幾個客在等外賣，這一個立食位，仲要望住條街，會是非常之 un comfort。

 我點了一份 Fish & Chips，一份 Chicken and Mushroom Pie。炸魚薯條，是一個套餐，包了一支樽裝可樂。而這店的包裝分法甚是傳統，就是我常說的用報紙包...而我真真正正見過，在英國真的有用錯版印過野的單面報紙做包裝。

 魚條、腸仔、薯條，是一個非常傳統的午餐配搭。薯條，我可以說很好，亦十分之英式，之不過，這應該不是新鮮即切的薯條，因為其香甜度有少許分別；而腸仔，也是十分之英國式，是正宗的炸魚薯條店的炸香腸，可是有一不同，就是這腸比較短，我食開的洋腸成呎長架。

Set Lunch 的魚，冇得揀，照理由應該是 Hoki，是鱈魚的一種。魚的脆皮，稱為 Batter，入口鬆化，魚的香味亦滲入在漿粉之內，令魚本身同炸粉皮兩者都有味道，不會食到一層重水味的皮，才是美味。

 套餐可加選一個醬，而我就選了與魚絕配的 Tartar Sauce，中文直譯就是 "他他醬"。有芥末的微辣感，有洋蔥的香，也有 Mayonnaise 的蛋香，配薯條感覺一般，但這醬一旦觸碰到炸魚，就立即變成一個極惹味香口的醬。

 我最懷念的英式批品牌是 Hollands Pie，但在香港出現了我應為是第二的英式批品牌 Pukka Pie，已經是心滿意足。本來，我想要我最喜愛的 Steak Pie (牛肉餡批)，但有這 Chicken and Mushroom Pie，已經令我覺得很開心。

 Pie，十分之酥化，內餡是一絲絲的雞肉同切是一條條的蘑菇，當中加有香口的白汁，很香，很肉，很美味。若是我能食到 Steak Pie 或 Steak & Kidney Pie，牛肉加上 Gravy，更加萬分之邪惡。而這一個雞肉批，已經是酥香加濃香，而且啖啖肉，的確是人類生活一天的能源所在。

I make this statement as an Aussie, because it's clear that Aussies make the best fish and chips in the world. It was with fond memories of wonderfully cooked fish and golden brown, crunchy chips that I set out to find Hong Kong's best fish and chips, which is how I stumbled across Hooked.

Located on Caine Road, right in the middle of Expat territory, Hooked is one of those little food spots that you could easily walk by if you weren't looking for it. It's a tiny little space that has room for standing only and is run by a Kiwi with grand designs. To bring the best of New Zealand's pristine waters directly to Hong Kong, with all fish caught using sustainable practices.

Now, I'll be the first to admit, New Zealand has some of the most amazing produce in the world, the land of the 'long white cloud' is far away from much of the worlds pollution and the Kiwi's do have a reputation for great fish and chips. But so do the Aussies, who typically also think we're the best at everything (LOL).

Only one way to find out and that was get into Hooked and give it a go.

 The first thing we noticed when looking at the big board that made up the Hooked menu was that there were only three types of fish on offer. Used to having a much larger range of options, and only recognising one of the fish noted, we checked in with the owner to find out a little more about the fish.

Hoki was the first on the menu and we found out that it was a firm white fish with a strong flavour, perfectly suited to deep frying. Blue Nose was next and as a deep water fish rarely seen by most anglers, is considered a rare delicacy. Last of the fish and more recognisable was the Blue Cod, not be be mistaken as it's North Sea namesake, Blue Cod is a versatile full bodied fish that's a little more flakey.

With only three options, we opted for the Hoki and the Blue Cod, along with two scoops of chips. Now, it might not be well known, but SC is a bit of a chip monster, once she starts, chips just seem to disappear, so while two scoops seemed like a lot, it ended up being just the right amount.

While waiting for the fish to cook, we chatted with the owner, Matthew, about the upcoming World Cup for cricket and had some of the friendly banter that happens when you get an Aussie and a Kiwi in the room. We also had a couple of bottles of, what quite possibly could be, the best lemonade that we've had (from New Zealand of course).

Our fish and chips arrived, wrapped in the customary white butchers paper and not wanting to wait, we ripped right into the meal at the only standing counter available in the tiny shop. One bite, then two, then three.... We looked at each other and then got stuck into our meal. The fish was fresh and cooked to perfection in a light batter that wasn't oily and helped enhance the flavour of the NZ fish. Our chips were superb, very crunchy and completely more(ish). It didn't take long before our fish and chips (or Fush and Chups if you're a Kiwi) were gone.

 Were they the best fish in chips we'd eaten, well maybe not, but they were pretty darn good, and I would say that they're the best in Hong Kong. It was great to have a little taste of home, even if wasn't really Australia, the fish and chips helped transport us back to the great southern land. At the end of the day, you could argue that Australia or New Zealand make the best fish in chips in the world - we could argue that out for some time.

One thing that you won't find us arguing about - that they're a darn sight better than British fish and chips!

题外话/补充资料： There's not much room to eat in, just a couple of benches. But it's a cool spot to hand out and meet other expats if you've got the time

    Environment & Hygiene:It is a tiny place with no seats, but there is a table inside and outside, so you could stand and eat if you want. The kitchen is clearly visible, which maybe explains why it it was quite hot inside.     Taste & Value:
    It said on the menu that lunch sets were availabe from mon- fri, but when my sister and I ordered, we were informed that because it was a public holiday, they weren't available even though it was monday. I was really bummed out, as the lunch sets were much greater deals. If I had known this, I would have visited another day.   
     It was my sister who suggested to try it anyways.

     The fish & chips were wrapped in paper like how it is when you buy coldcuts.
    Before ordering, we asked how big the fish was, and we were told it was about 100g.

     Blue Cod with 1 scoop of Chips + Oysters (3) ($75 + $20+ $40) The first thing I tried was the oyster. The batter was quite chewy, and the oysters were big, juicy and tasted like the sea.

     The cod was a little tough, but it was good. The chips were fresh, but could have been more crispy. You get to choose a salt, and we chose garlic salt, which was quite nice. Although it added flavour to the food, it made everything even more dry. It would have been nice if sauce was given on the side instead of having to purchase it for an extra $5 -$10. What I liked best was the batter of the seafood, as it was light and not greasy. I would describe it to be similar to a tempura batter.

     Final Verdict:
    Batter is important for fish and chips, and this was one that I liked. I would go again for the lunch sets in the future.

      之前有個食評話"對於一個係NZ (紐西蘭)返來嘅人來講Pie 同fish and chip 就好似春驕與志明内余文樂同7仔肉醬意嘅關係一樣, 有一個好深嘅情意結係道"You are right! 對於生活在NZ 10年既我嚟講, 依個FIsh&Chip既情意結真係好大Hooked既FIsh&Chip比較NZ地道既, 有90%相似, 最開心係用紙包着新鮮熱辣炸既食物, 同NZ一模一樣Blue Cod - NZ最愛, 但魚肉較實, 唔夠滑, 可能因為雪藏魚既關係, HK冇新鮮blue codChips - 食得出係新鮮炸, 薯味十足Chicken Pie - 100%同NZ一樣, 風味十足, 係HK未食過, 記得以前係NZ大學lunch每日買一個pie食, 真係好回味

      Grabbed some Hooked to go with some friends. A few thoughts:The menu says "2 onion rings: $15." It is not lying. I had been drinking literally since 2 in the afternoon at a birthday barbecue and I failed to process this fact. FIFTEEN DOLLARS for TWO onion rings?!? Seriously brazen price gouging here. But the onion rings are good.The chips are good, and a full scoop is a lot. They're a little on the mushy side, but nicely salted and I had no complaints.The fish itself is good in my opinion. I got

       Grabbed some Hooked to go with some friends. A few thoughts:

      The menu says "2 onion rings: $15." It is not lying. I had been drinking literally since 2 in the afternoon at a birthday barbecue and I failed to process this fact. FIFTEEN DOLLARS for TWO onion rings?!? Seriously brazen price gouging here. But the onion rings are good.

      The chips are good, and a full scoop is a lot. They're a little on the mushy side, but nicely salted and I had no complaints.

      The fish itself is good in my opinion. I got the blue cod. It's pretty plain-tasting, but that's actually how I prefer my fried fish. Otherwise it just tastes off. The batter was nicely apportioned-- I'd had some trouble with insane amounts of batter at some places recently (The Pawn and Awakening, to be specific).

      You don't get a huge portion of fish and looking around at what my friends got, the portion sizes are a little inconsistent. I am personally in favor of small portions (though not as small as 2 onion rings for $15, smh).

      As opposed to the taco-liers at Seasalt, this place gets my approval. Good: B+
      题外话/补充资料： My friend ordered the curry sauce. A small dipping portion is $10. The curry sauce is fantastic. The guy running the counter was totally trying to up-sell people on stuff, like larger portions of fries. What is with the money-grubbing, New Zealand?

      對於一個係NZ (紐西蘭)返來嘅人來講Pie 同fish and chip 就好似春驕與志明内余文樂同7仔肉醬意嘅關係一樣, 有一個好深嘅情意結係道. 每次見到都忍唔住要一試, 希望可以食返似曾相識嘅味道.店外内得各兩個企位, 想坐底慢慢食嘅朋友要注意喇.Fish and Chip, 叫咗落少量Lemon & Pepper Salt, 薯條薯餅同炸魚都唔錯但係都係太鹹同炸魚嘅炸槳偏脆.Chicken and Mushroom Pie, 點完餐先見到原來Pie唔係自家製而係英國進口已經暗叫不妙. 來到賣相唔錯但係味道就有啲失望, 皮唔算鬆化底部仲有啲發唔起未熟透嘅感覺,陷料好少好難食到雞肉. 總體水準比我係超市買來自己頂Pie癮嘅要低.總結: Fish and Chip 都可以一試, pie就唔雖要啦....

       Chicken and Mushroom Pie, 點完餐先見到原來Pie唔係自家製而係英國進口已經暗叫不妙. 來到賣相唔錯但係味道就有啲失望, 皮唔算鬆化底部仲有啲發唔起未熟透嘅感覺,陷料好少好難食到雞肉. 總體水準比我係超市買來自己頂Pie癮嘅要低.

      總結: Fish and Chip 都可以一試, pie就唔雖要啦.... 
      题外话/补充资料： -開放厨房加上中午人流令店内有啲悶熱. -環境評分會略高因爲take away 店來講佢算唔錯.

      Went there again with IVY after dining at Rosie Jeans!!HOOKED must have been flocked with chip lovers because they keep running out of chips!A friend that I recommended this place to went today and they were serving crinkle cut chips.BUT, the staff didn't ask her which salt she wanted so she missed out on the different choices of salt they offer.Apart from Beers, they have other beverages from Australia.★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★Chicken pie (pukka pie) $55:It was so nice that IVY brought some cutlery

       It was so nice that IVY brought some cutlery along because I told her they don't have forks.
      Anyway, the chicken pie was nice and the filling was quite thick which meant that you could probably eat it with your hands.
      The pie crust was nice and flakey and it wasn't oily.

       Tried this on another visit without IVY.
      I was surprised it was a WHOLE battered banana which was not even sliced in half!
      I would advise shaking the bag before eating it because the cinnamon and sugar is at the bottom of the bag.
      The banana was delicious because the battered coating was extremely light flavoured by the sugar and cinnamon.

        上星期六，我跟食友 Supersupergirl 到 Rosie jean's cafe 嚐過英式午餐後，其實！大家已食得幾飽！  仍是心思思想走到同是位於半山堅道的 Hooked 食 Pie！上次，自從她告訴我這間 Hooked 食 Fish & Chips 時，竟然無叉用！  我聽見後，特意在食早餐那間餐廳，臨走問店員拿一套外賣餐具。  以便我們幫襯時有叉用！  最好笑的是她 show 電話裡的相片給我看！個鬼佬示範怎樣不用任何餐具而拿著一個 Pie 食！ 細小的店子是一間外賣店，店內外以一塊小木板作為桌子，方便食客站住食！ 店內唯一一位外籍男士正是紐西蘭籍老闆，不停以他那藍色電眼望著我們兩位女生，就算問他垃圾放在哪裡？他同樣以這種眼神望著我們！真攞命！ 可是，靚仔不是我們杯茶啊！ 以海報作簡單點綴！我們為的是 Pie！ Pie 款式不多！$55/個，實在幾貴！ 當然份量也有咁上下！我不食牛，還是選擇 Chicken & mushroom pie $55批皮鬆化！餡料雞肉都幾多！ 反而，蘑菇份量卻偏少！味道調教得恰到好處！不會膩滯！

          Saw this newly listed shop called HOOKED so googled it and found out it was a Chippy so decided to check it out.I didn't really have any expectations because it was opened by Kiwi's and I am British.Previously tried Seasalt and Fish & Chick which were opened by Aussies.Anyway I loved the location, it was on Caine Road near the escalators.Brightly lit blue logo with a blue hook and sea blue decor.This chippy joint was manned by three hunks.The menu was simple.It was really nice to see that they s

          I didn't really have any expectations because it was opened by Kiwi's and I am British.

           It was good to see lots of battered fish ready because there were lots of customers coming and going.

           They had a choice of blue cod, blue nose and hok, as well as battered mussels, oysters and scallops.
          In the end, I settled for Blue nose, half a scoop of chips, and 2 potato fritters which cost $95!!
          I wanted to try the curry sauce as well but it was $10 for a small tub and it was quite watery because someone before me ordered it.
          I didn't have room for dessert or I would have tried the pineapple and bananas battered in cinnamon.

           The fish was really good, the batter was light, crisp and thinly coated yet it held the fish together.

           The texture of the fish was succulent, soft and moist.
          I've never tried blue nose before but it tasted like Haddock.

           The potato fritters were slices of potato in batter and quite scrumptious with salt and vinegar.
          Chips:
          The chips were ok but not the fresh hand cut ones that you get in chippies but the taste was good because you could really taste the salt and vinegar and it was crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

          Next time I will be back for their pies and try different salts on the chips because they have Cajun, Lemon and pepper or Garlic.

            尋日食左個set lunch, $64, ok啦, 熱辣辣幾好食, 調味恰到好處, 又幾香 ... 不過舊魚就細左啲, 薯條多過魚好多, 同埋無condiments連埋, 我都唔知, 幸好味道夠就咁食都唔錯 ... btw, 個餐話有soda, 唔係汽水嗎? 我返到屋企先知無野飲 ... 可能我英文差誤會左啦
