Ship Street is my favourite food street in Hong Kong and my recent found of QMO had made my life so much easier. I have been coming here for dinner and lunch a lot and I know I am coming back again!Their lunch sets are decent, presentable, delicious, quick, with good service. It's just for any occasions from business meetings, to just a quick team lunch with your colleagues, or family gatherings. Apart from lucnh sets, a ham sharing plate is also available as a treat during lunch time! Dona lola

The intense flavour with a mix of peppery, spicy and savoury taste from each type of ham. The taste really excite your taste bud before the lunch set and I particularly liked their crystal bread which had a very refreshing light sweet taste from tomatoes.

The soup was served hot and it had a thick consistency from the puréed leeks, onions, potatoes, cream, and chicken stock. A drizzle of olive oil on top awakened all the earty and sweet taste from the mixed veggies.

Big pieces of nicely grilled sea bass had a crispy golden brown skin, while the piquillo pepper sauce at the bottom was really sweet with an appetising bright orange colour.

Intererestingly, for the moussaka terrine, it was very creamy and soft with a crispy cheese grilled on top. I was told that it was made with bechamel sauce which just the right amount of butter and flour ratio. Slices of eggplant were then stuffed in between. The creaminess really go well with the soft and moist fish.

Pineapple, star anise, and mint ($28)

Indeed it was refreshing, slightly sweet, while the unique flavour from the star anise married beautifully with the sourness from the pineapple, with a hint of minty taste from the freshly chopped leaves.

一向都係最鍾意食甜品,冇諗過係一間西餐廳經營見到似曾相識嘅港式雞蛋仔,但係食落去係有啲分別嘅,雞蛋仔整得好有蛋味,旁邊既焦糖脆脆同埋熱情果sorbet,真係一個好得意嘅配搭,我覺得都幾好食。

順帶一提鬼佬大廚哥哥都真係幾靚仔,對客好好笑容又有禮貌,重問下我地下次有咩新野想試tim。

Thursday evening prime dining time but QMO was half-empty, not a good sign.  Upon being seated next to the display cabinet, we observed the sorry state the supposedly fresh seafood with a heavy heart.  Nothing worth ordering from the wine list, which only showed grape variety and producer name but no vintage - not a wine friendly place then.   We decided to have a beer and a glass of dry sherry instead, both were good but nothing special.  Food items were below expectations - the jamon had the l

Thursday evening prime dining time but QMO was half-empty, not a good sign.  Upon being seated next to the display cabinet, we observed the sorry state the supposedly fresh seafood with a heavy heart.  Nothing worth ordering from the wine list, which only showed grape variety and producer name but no vintage - not a wine friendly place then.   We decided to have a beer and a glass of dry sherry instead, both were good but nothing special.  

Food items were below expectations - the jamon had the look of just been taken out of a vacuum pack from the fridge, not the hand-carved type as shown on the menu.  Texture was tough and there were no marbling fat to soften the fibre, and the taste was stale - I really didn't like it, but my friend had no trouble finishing the plate.  Bread with tomoato was good in comparison, but my friend found it overly salty.  Next up, red shrimps from Italy, texture was not as tender as I expected and the taste on the heavy side, the meat was stuck to the shell, making it difficult to eat.  Last dish of Iberico pork presa was perhaps under seasoned and the potato mash that came with it was too runny.  

Not cheap either, as the ship street rent must be sky-high, for this price I have had better elsewhere and won't be coming back.

最近的天氣反覆無常,每逢來到午飯時間,雨下得特別大,難得的是今天天氣還好,有時間去遠一些地方也可以,所以就走到船街尋食,發現Pizza Express已不存在,改為這間QMO了。走進這間充滿色彩的餐廳,已被周圍的藝術作品所吸引,感覺有著濃濃的藝術色彩。門口是一個大酒吧,而最裡面則是一個半開放式的廚房,感覺開揚,一點也不侷促。午餐可選兩道菜、三道菜及四道菜,當天胃口不錯,就來個三道菜吧。先從沙律及湯中選擇,由於天氣暑熱,Gazpacho就適合了,入口冰涼,酸酸溜溜真是十分開胃,內裡更有著細細碎碎的青瓜粒,增加了清爽的感覺。第二道菜從Seafood Fideua及Prawns and Pork Paella兩款選擇,此時有點難決擇,兩款都有興,幸好與友人各自點上一款。首先是Seafood Fideua,就是將天使麵切得細碎,以海鮮湯來烹調,入口有很鮮香的味道,清爽不膩。另一個是Prawns and Pork Paella,感覺上這個有點太乾身,需要將那撮蒜味蛋黃醬拌勻,無論味道及質感上都有著巨大的轉變,變得更為可口好吃。最後來一個豐富的主菜 - Iberico Pork Ribs with

最後來一個豐富的主菜 - Iberico Pork Ribs with finger potatoes,有別於一般的BBQ醬烤,改以清新一點的醬汁來慢煮,質地鬆軟滑溜,肉味濃郁,值得一試。

前菜是沙律,沙律中有超嫩滑的魚、極甜的芒果。平日這樣子吃魚肉的話,感覺會有點膩的,但當加入了芒果及酸汁之後,味道層次大大提升,不但把魚的鮮味逼出來,而且消去膩的感覺,跟清甜的芒果跟酸汁形成一個蠻清新的感覺。另外,就連拌碟的粟米仔片也不絲一苟的,爽脆酸甜,很棒的。

一塊又一塊的西班牙麵包,十分薄身,烤到很香脆,面頭加上蕃茄及橄欖油,不但香口,而且令麵包更香更美味。加上冷壓橄欖油,香氣更是誘人~

Duck Tataki, Smoked Aubergine and Miso Sauce ($108)

嗯,這道菜真的很特別,從沒有試過對食物有如此好奇的感覺。Martin先把茄子薰香,再加入豉油,令本來淡得很的茄子增添鹹香的味道,茄子上面放著一片又一片薄薄的鴨肉。基本上,我在街用餐的時候,除了魚香茄子之外都很少會點以茄子為主的菜式。今次吃過煙薰茄子之後,茄子十分鹹香的,加上薄薄的鴨片,令口感跟味道的層次都有所提高,令我不禁愛上了這種食法。

Crispy Pork Belly, Organic Egg and Sobrasada

看著這道菜會想起中式的燒肉,香脆的表皮,令人垂涎。至於肉質嘛,脂肪跟肉的比例剛好,咬落很爽口很彈牙,丁點不油膩,而且還相當鹹香。在吃豬肉的時候,可以把中間的辣肉碎醬跟雞蛋拌勻一起食用,味道層次更甚。

在吃這個豬肉的時候,店員不忘送上麵包,用來蘸豬肉中間的醬料。先說說麵包本身,厚薄如一隻尾指,麵包本來也是烤到外脆內軟,可以用來當正餐吃的話,我已經很滿足~

把麵包蘸醬之後,鬆軟的麵包把醬汁的味道全部都吸收了,就像海棉把水吸收了一樣,咀嚼時每一口均是既鬆軟且又辣又惹味的感覺,令人欲罷不能,停不了口地吃。

野生三文魚,看上去比一般三文魚深色。這個色澤也是相對少見的,但卻異常吸引~

上面的炸魚皮是Martin新鮮炸起的,旁邊的甜洋蔥令人愛上,又甜又淋,而且沒有了那刺激的味道,味道極度良好。另一邊的則是他他醬,拌隨著甜洋蔥又或是炸魚皮吃,口感跟層次大不同,兩者在口腔中的化學作用也蠻大的,但這是令人喜愛的。

野生的三文魚,肉質嫩滑且Juicy,每一口址是豐富的魚油味,這是前所未有的啦。咀嚼後依然有三文魚的鮮味在口裡久久不散~

紅酒煮牛頰肉、荷蘭豆,還有烘乾了的甘筍條。嗯…其實..我並沒有想過會有荷蘭豆出現在這種菜式當中,但加入紅酒及牛頰肉一起煮,味道又比想像之中還要夾,而且這個煮法把荷蘭豆的草腥味辟除了。至於烘乾了的甘筍條,很甜的,而且帶點脆,這個食甘筍的方法也蠻過癮的~

加入紅酒煮牛頰肉,帶點酒的香氣,每一口牛頰牛均是香噴噴的,入口相當淋身,而且有很濃的肉味,香氣在口腔裡凝滯著,叫人喜歡~

眼見這個Egg waffle,感覺很普通,但加入Martin最拿手的熱情果雪芭後,印象分大增。先試試雪芭,水準依然,酸甜開胃,加上墊在雪芭底的nuts更令人喜歡。

之後就試試雞蛋窩夫,原來內有乾坤。咬開後發現雞蛋漿相當豐富,而且中間還夾雜著花生醬!!花生醬跟蛋的香味十分配合,非常香甜。整體香氣、口感跟味道三者的層次大大提升。

雞蛋窩夫跟熱情果雪芭的化學作用也蠻強烈的,令人一吃愛上。

Rum “Baba", Coffee, melty Chocolate 72% ($88)

這又是Martin的拿手好戲啦,把最普通的材料炮製得與別不同。香蕉跟Rum酒,兩者那香甜的味道在口腔中游走。香蕉用上比較生的那種,所以咬落有一定口感,再用上Rum,令香蕉散發著陣陣幽香。另外用上不甜不膩的72%朱古力雪糕,每一口均是朱古力跟淡淡的咖啡香,每一口均是滿滿的幸福~
题外话/补充资料: 每次見到Martin就知道是食神出現的時候了,今次也不例外。加上QMO的是開放式廚房,可以見到他在煮食,這個感覺更是良好。他在廚房中煮食那團火,那種魅力,我認識的人入面只有幾個是真正擁有,而他們的成績中亦比想像中還要好,在外界聽起來也有不錯的名聲,很希望業界可以有更多有熱誠的廚師,把不同的美食可以帶給香港人,也更希望這家餐廳會因為有不同職責的人的努力而令更多人認識如此有心的一家QMO。

The white colour cocktail consists of rum, sake, fresh lychee, cucumber, and sprite. It was comparatively sweeter than the Q Ship cocktail, yet with a stronger lychee flavour.

The tomatoes were super fresh with a rather hard firm texture. It doesn't have the usual grass taste from our own local produce. It tasted so refreshing that it was almost irressistable (even for people who don't eat tomatoes).

This dish really reminded me of my last visit to Barcelona. My friend used to prepare this dish for me by scrapping the fresh tomato meat onto some toast, my friend will then throw away the tomato skin when the meat has all come out.

This particular cystal bread was imported directly frozen from Barcelona, Spain. It was surprisingly crispy with a nice subtle yeast taste. The tomato on top was undoubtly sweet complimented with some sea salt sprinkled on top.

Their Spain imported octopus was thinly sliced and was super soft. The carpaccio was topped wiht some really creamy, smooth, and light potato foam, and some pesto vinegratte made with thyme, pepperika, and rosemary.

Again, the flavour was just perfectly balanced with just the right amount of saltiness from the octopus and the pungent rosemary taste was lightened with the potato foam.

The hake was swimming in white wine fish stock which was cloudy and a little bit similar to those Chinese fish soup. The asapragus sitting on top was thick but young with no hard fiber whatsoever.

Lastly, the hake was just prepared to perfect with just the right doneness. The almost pink colour centre was almost transparent whcih was amazingly soft, moist, juicy, yet without any stinky fishiness. Even people who don't eat fish loved this dish! <3

The pork itself was semi-tender with a light chew to it. The pork flavour was quite strong but not too porky which I liked. It was not bad at all but I wish it was slightly tender.

Thecake was super moist itself and it was surprisingly in almost room tempreture. The cake was light in cheese flavour and light in texture as well. It was quite a unique way to enjoy cheesecake and it doesn't hurt to try, I would say.

Comparatively, this is a more indulging dessert with a scoop of sweet and sour passion fruit sorbet, served with some vanilla cream, nutella and peanut sauce, as well as some egglette inspired egg waffle using the batter that is similar to the Dutch pancakes (Poffertjes), on top there was some caramel sauce as well! The Yin Yang inspired plating was like an eye-candy.

In terms of the taste, the flavourful egg taste from the waffle complimented nicely with the sourness, sweetness, and the nuttiness from everything else. The very complex flavour was a great dessert experience and I really enjoyed every bite of it.

The app was tasty - "King Crab Legs" - but there must have been a typo on the menu that made it past the proof reader. It was "a crab leg" - singular. HK$148 for a single crab leg....... not exactly value for money. The real problem was the fish. I ordered The red snapper and it was was undercooked. 炎炎夏日,見餐牌一道Gazpacho西班牙蕃茄凍湯,正合胃口。懶理別的選擇,就是埋首這道菜中。Gazpacho看是容易,實用調味的功夫不少。要凍湯吃來鮮味而不寡,溫度夠好而質感順滑,才算好味。

這個凍湯以多個的新鮮蕃茄,加上洋蔥、蒜頭、蕃茜的配合,而且還巧妙混入點點新鮮紅椒,鮮味之餘夾雜紅椒的甜鮮,還有洋蔥的微辣與蒜頭的惹味。入口涼快,令人心曠神怡,的確沒有選擇錯。

中段來一個粉麵,正好是意西式特色,Fideuam一小份又是配合我的心意!厭倦Paella的"大鑊飯"特色,午餐時間來個輕身一點的Fideua確是不錯。同樣吸入了不少的醬汁,令短而幼的麵條味道豐富,夾雜海鮮作料,加上麵條,口感輕鬆不過重。作為前菜與主菜大間的"過門",這個份量與味道是恰到好處。

主菜是Iberico Pork Ribs with Finger potatoes,肉質軟腍而味鮮,感覺似慢煮處理。外以醬汁調味,汁醬不嗆,反而更配合。肉件入口,不用花功夫就能咬開,而且肉汁與脂肪香是味道的精華所在。新薯質感結實,味道不多,但也有淡淡的薯仔原味道,後段有點點甜。

很多人以為我不喜歡吃甜品,其實並不是。只不過是平常喜歡飲酒,而葡萄酒很多時候會因吃過甜品後而變味,所以我比較少接觸。但是,吃午飯的時間,吃點甜品結尾,絕對是好事情。

Honey Brownie with vanilla ice-cream,Brownie味濃,夾雜脆口的果仁,本來就已經是很多的吁道與口感的平衡。可以表面還加上熱烘烘的焦糖,收畫龍點眼的效果。甜香味道濃郁,與Brownie味道一拍即合,加上雲呢嗱雪糕,口中冷熱文煎,更富立體感。

餐廳整體感覺十分好,而且還提出一個Gastobar概念。Gastobar其實也是西班牙餐廳的經典模式,他們崇尚輕食簡約,而有感Tapas實在太過輕微,大食如我的,並不能滿足;因此有這些Gastobar,可吃些中小盤菜式,份量比Tapas多,而且用料更好,選擇更闊。但比起一般餐廳的份量較少,而且著重多點飲酒輕食,正合我意。

我覺得傳統歐陸菜式的館子依然是飲食的一大模式,不過更加Neighborhood 風格的餐廳將會是另一個主流。因為感覺輕鬆自在,而且豐儉由人,令飲食多一種靈活性。現時在歐洲也已有不少成功的Neighborhood風格餐廳,,在倫敦,A little Social同The Quality Chop Shop都是成功例子。希望這類型的餐廳多點及快點在香港擴散啦!

Taking over the space previously occupied by Pizza Express on Ship Street, QMO is the newest member of the Elite Concepts family who also owns Ye Shanghai and Nanhai No.1. I vaguely recalled this group having another Spanish restaurant called QUEMO at the QRE Plaza not too long ago but whether this is a continuation of that project I'm not sure.

We have an option between their set lunch and a la carte menu. Honestly, I couldn't find anything interested from the set menu but since it looks to give me better value for money, I opted for it anyways.

Our three-course set kicked off first with a bowl of pork and prawn paella. I am no expert in Spanish cuisine so whether it's been well prepared or not, I had no idea. I could only comment on how tasty it was and to be brutally honest, it's not very tasty. As my colleague described perfectly, this is more like a fried rice than a paella.

I always like my paella to be creamy and crunchy with a caramelized crust. Sometimes it's a little soupy but I don't mind that at all as long as it's been properly flavored with saffron, paprika, or something rich. This one doesn't have any of that. There were tiny pieces of diced pork and prawns in there. The addition of clams (and some sort of sour cream on top) was nice but unfortunately, it's not the type of paella I've come to enjoy all these years with the rich and exciting flavors.

Just when we were still discussing about the paella, our tuna loin was ready to be served. The lightly seared tuna loin, served with spinach and asparagus, was of decent quality (though not great) but I'd probably like to see a bit more pink in the middle.

Like our starter and main course, we had a choice between two desserts and both of us went with the honey brownie with vanilla ice-cream. It was nothing to write home about and I will just leave it at that.

$238 for a three-course lunch is probably the standard price to pay for a good meal in Wanchai these days. The problem is, for one, what we had today was not a very good meal (I've seen better food served here at dinner time from some bloggers' review but why the drop down at lunch???) and two, there are plenty other options out there in the area (with similar or better price). Take Atelier Vivanda from across the street as an example, their "light lunch set" featuring a mini-burger plus soup or salad is only going for $128. Competition is fierce? You got that right.

Started with cherry tomatoes, burrata and basil cress.
THIS WAS MAGIC. I think the dish should be renamed to Burrata bubbles because people won't know how awesome this dish is.
It is not the ordinary burrata that you see so you are in for a surprise.

They are actually burrata bubbles that burst in your mouth as they are made using spherification by Molecular Gastronomy so you can already imagine how divine they are.
I wouldn't mind eating plates of these and they were topped with basil cress (baby basil leaves).

This was another vegetarian dish that I loved because it was strong flavours.
It was a layer of bread, olives, mushrooms topped with sundried tomatoes and the saltiness of the olives worked nicely with the sundried tomatoes and mushrooms.
I would have loved an extra piece of toast to go with it.

Moving on to this semi seafood dish was this huge ravioli where there are three in a portion.
Not only is it big but the piece of foie gras inside is big and there is a whole prawn inside.
As the ravioli wrap was made with local wonton wrap, it had this wonton taste and feel to it when the prawn flavours and wonton wrap were eaten together.
The ravioli was topped with this silky oyster foam which brings out the marine flavours.

If I could rename this dish, I would call it Mama's boy meatballs because the recipe comes from gorgeous Chef Martin Carrasco's mum.
It was deliciously soft and juicy meatballs in a light vegetable sauce topped with tender soft cuttlefish and finely chopped garlic and herbs.

Finished off with this lovely sorbet with a fiery ginger sorbet paired with sweet juicy lychees surrounded in a coconut sauce which is poured infront of you.

This is a new venture by Elite Concept and I was eager to check it out. QMO is loccated on the street level of Ship Street and has a big frontage that opens up to two sides. There is a huge bar right at the entrance and a small crowd was drinking along the sidewalk. The place seemed vibrant. The deco is modern and rustic, with boat wood and glass float pendents that pays homage to the street.The restaruant area is tugged behind the bar and seats over 40 people. The restaruant area is tugged behind the bar and seats over 40 people. There is a open kitchen at the bar which made this place filll with energy. The exe chef Marti used to helmed QUEMO which belong to the same group. But over here it is mediterranean inspired and focusing more on seafood (as the title implies). I ordered few dishes to sample:

1)Garlic prawn($108)- the portion was sizable. The prawn was really fresh and firm and best of all the savory garlic sauce just bring the prawns alive. Delicious!

2)Artichokes with ham($108)- Artichokes were tender and blended well with the saltiness of the iberico ham. Solid dish!

2)Beef Cheek ($228)- Big piece of cheek. It is slow cooked for 12 hours. The sauce made of Tempranillo wine and sauteed with lots of onion and leek is amazingly thick and sweet. Highly recommended!

It was a enjoyable meal. This place is similar to a gastropub or Bistronomy where you can chill, drink and enjoy gastro food without high prices. All the main courses are quite reasonable (around $180-220). The music was well selected and service was attentive. An ideal place for gathering with friends (without venturing to LKF).
