Although Simplylife has several places in town, this one in Festival Walk is still my ultimate because of the skylight. Their original spot is now occupied by the pricier Greyhound Café. The present location is much nosier next to the food court and ice rink, but the waiting queue is still going strong. It’s the fourth day of Chinese New Year and hubby was finally dragged here upon my repeated lunch “suggestions”. This time the long queue even took a U-turn given it’s after three o’clock in the afternoon. We waited for around 45 minutes till they have to let all the people having brunch in. It’s cloudy that day so it’s ok to have a seat away from the skylight near the cake counters. We rushed to order as the brunch period was closing. We chose one soup and one salad to go with the open steak sandwich with rocket leaves salad and artichoke, dried tomato and olive pizza, and some dessert and coffee later of course.

The soup contained quite a lot of barley texture and tasted normal. The salad was more remarkable and the simple orange slices burst with juices to bring extra freshness to the greens. The open steak sandwich was presented quickly. It’s quite inconvenient to eat no matter with hands or knife. The steak juice and egg yolk soaked the farm bread which became even more difficult to cut. Perhaps toasting the bread would be a better option. The pizza arrived a while later. The heavy cheese and generous toppings soaked the crust so that only the rim was crunchy. We enjoyed the rich taste though and the toppings all prevented the pizza from getting too dry.

Though full already, I must order the banana tart that I had longed for since the last visit, and a white coffee to go with it. Hubby wanted the cinnamon log which was sold out and he had a chocolate croissant instead. The white coffee was quite creamy and tasted ok. The banana tart was the highlight for me. Hubby thought the banana tart should taste just like banana eaten by itself because of the overwhelming fruit taste. However, that tart save the day as the chocolate tart base, caramel custard, pecan and nuts all worked their magic to create a comforting sensation.

We were rushing again to take the bill as dinner time came when we finished. Another long queue for dinner was already in place. The entire place was photogenic. Would be nice to try their dinner, but it’s certainly a fuss to come here again. Pity.
