My family picked this his semi-lunch buffet once a year and this was the third time I tried. The most satisfactory one was the first time. Before this time, it charged $100 including service charge. This time, it was $108. Though the price-performance ratio was decreasing, this price of semi-lunch buffet was difficult to find and it was near my home, my family still choose this hotel but I intend to try other hotel next time.
There were three options for main dishes of this semi-lunch buffet. We, three persons order all options. Completely disappointed with the slow-cooked Beef Cheek since it was a bit tough and the seasoning was weak. The other dish was pan-fried fish which was over-fried. Fortunately, the garlicky butter sauce save this dish. Then the dish of French spring chicken was also a bit overcooked with not much flavour. In overall, the performance of the main dish was no better than the foods in buffet table.
In buffet table, there were two choices of soup, one was tomato cream soup which was quite good. The other soup was Chinese-style tomato potatoes soup.
There was no fried vegetables, even absence of noodle and rice! Only breads with butter were provided. There were conventional assorted vegetables and fruits in salad bar while Okra, kidney bean, chickpea and button mushroom were also available.
Meat was valuable this time. Only curry potatoes brisket (no supplement), curry mussel, Vietnam-style paper spring roll provided. Fortunately, sliced grilled pork and something like sliced fish patty were in salad table at a very later time. Though meat dishes were few, the flavour was promising especially curry brisket which was cooked to tender and in deep flavour. Mussel was cooked in a intense curry flavour sauce while Vietnam- style paper spring roll was very fresh and crispy. The sliced- grill pork was alike Cantonese BBQ pork but without the red color was alright, too. Siu Mai was chewy enough and xiao long bao which I did not try.
With no expectation on dessert, a few desserts were alright for me. Sago Dessert with Mango and Pomelo(楊枝甘露) was the most tasty. Others like a bite size mousse cake with alcoholic flavour and a cup of raspberry mousse were also acceptable. For chocolate cake which was a bit like brownie, I skipped the top layer, was quite chocolatey.
Desserts were not worth to try such as bread pudding which was overcooked while red bean cake was too sweet. My father liked almond drink but I disliked. There was also have self-make pancake.
At the price of $108(no service on weekday) of semi-lunch buffet, it got a pass if there were foods suit your palate.
