We discovered this restaurant called 春禧堂 (English name: Chun Xi Tang) as we were looking at the Cup of Noodle Musuem nearby. A place that served casual Taiwanese food. The interior was cafe-like with a blue turquoise color scheme. Menu is in English and Chinese. There is no 10% service charge. Ordering is by scanning a QR code. They offer a variety of common Taiwanese items with flexible additional charges for appetizers and drinks. Mains were also flexible in terms of choices of noodles or if extra sauce was needed at no extra charge. They also offered snacks, dessert and a huge variety of drinks. There was actually a lot of choose from.
I had the Passion Fruit Green Tea ($26, save $5 if order a main). It was the right amount of sweetness as it was not so sweet you couldn't taste the tea. There were bits of natta de coco to chew on as well.
Boyfriend had the Cheese Purple Sweet Potato Milk ($38, save $5 if order a main). They cheese was salty and super thick so it was just laid on top of the already thick and creamy sweet potato milk. It was almost like a smoothie, It was that thick.
We shared an appetizer of Mixed Marinated Platter ($68). This was beef shank, beef tripe, chicken wing and marinated egg. We were taken aback how large the platter was. We were expecting a few pieces but this was more than enough for two. It was a lovely dark color and it smelled fragrant. The beef shank was the best as it was so soft, it melted in my mouth. It was so deeply flavored as well. The tripe was soft and tender, the egg soaking up so much of the marinade. The wings were still juicy.
I had the Noodle Soup with Shank, Beef Brisket, Beef Ball ($75). We chose the flat Taiwanese noodle which is a good choice for this as it clung to the soup well. The beef soup was rich and savory with hints of herbs. The beef shank was fantastic. The brisket melted in your mouth. But my favorite? The beef balls. So firm and packed with beef flavor. There was also some carrots and daikon to soak up the soup. This was served with a trio of cold appetizers: eggplant, cucumber and wood fungus. Well marinaded and spicy. A good compliment to the noodles.
Boyfriend had the Minced Pork Rice with Fried Pork Chop ($59). He was pleased there was an option for extra sauce. And when it arrived, it was soaking in sauce. He loved it. What was also surprising is the portion size. This was a generous serving of rice. The mince was very savory and sweet. The pork chop was fried very well. Super crunchy coating that wasn't too thick. The meat was juicy. This came with a small plate of garlic cucumber that were very garlicky indeed.
We ened with dessert of Grass Jelly with Sweet Potato, Pearl, Coconut Jelly and Black Sugar Shaved Ice ($48) with extra taro balls ($8). It suddenly arrived in cloud of dry ice for purely entertainment purposes.
After everything settled down, the lid was popped off to reveal a lovely bowl of shaved ice. The sweet potato was soft and sweet. The taro balls chewy. But the ice ... so cold and every little bit was coated with the sweet brown sugar syrup so you get every bite of flavor.
Portion size was quite generous. Larger than we expected so for this price, quite a good value. Prices not expensive. I did like the fact that there was so much flexibility. There is also a lot of choose from as well. Service was friendly. Definitely a good option for dining in Tsim Sha Tsui for casual Taiwanese.
