午飯時間門外有人在等位,等約五分可以進內找好位置坐下,看看餐牌有什麼好吃蝦子撈麵用碟上, 附送一碗湯,成碟都鋪滿蝦子啲蝦子勁香,麵幼身彈牙, 條條分明 ,好似橡根咁有咬口湯味恰好, 不濃不淡還有油菜亦好鮮綠,食落去亦好嫩.完全無渣冰鎮奶茶,茶味也比較薄弱,很一般雖然座位有點逼,但地方算打理得整齊乾淨

之前已來過這裏打邊爐,幾好食,但選擇不多,師傅擺設幾有心機!今次和朋友晚上一行五人來吃粥麵,但所有食物都是水準以下,叫了個紅油三寶,雲吞還可以,但鯪魚球是我食過最差的,一口咬下去一陣苦味湧上來,原來是大大塊的果皮,失敗!!!我朋友叫了個朱手菜飯,朱手碎濕濕,菜飯凍的!!雲吞面的面淋的,一點都不爽口!叫了個魚片粥,個粥底好似糖水咁………甜的,失敗!!!我都吾識講!!還有這裏的侍應,十個有九個都好重鄉音,又冇禮貌!我不是看不起他們,但在中環區的食店,又不是很平,我個人覺得吾應該比咁既服務我,最基本都吾好有咁多咁重鄉音啦,以上純屬個人意見,不喜勿插!!!

It was just the usual stuff, but I didn't like the vegetable rice with salted meat because it had pieces of fatty pork in it.
The pork was nice and the bones were gelatinous and soft but the sauce was too oily.

今日吃了池記外賣, 12:00前落單外賣自取有85折, 4個人叫了不同組合。壹桶貴妃雞飯,金衣蟹皇粥, 炸乳鴿, 桑寄生紅棗蜜棗蓮子蛋茶。蟹皇粥有原隻瑤柱在內, 還有蟹糕, 味道鮮甜; 雞飯都ok既,但冇想像中咁有雞味, 飯內有2隻很濃香味的冬菇, 又厚肉, 味道很濃, 但個菜飯本身稍為乾左啲。乳鴿好味!!!!!!!! 海底椰雪耳糖水和桑寄生蛋茶甜道適中, 足料美味。總括來說材料落足,貨真價實

午飯時間同同事行去中環池記食Lunch,好快就有位,一坐抵見到個餐牌,都幾貴,平均要70幾蚊一個午餐,只得主菜加小食或甜品。直頭係高級版雲吞麵鋪,不過,身處中環,都明白中環就是這個價。說回食物,套餐的主菜可選粥炒麵飯,小食有菜、雞翼等,甜品是糖水或豆腐花。我要了牛筋雲吞麵加豆腐花。麵沒有皂水味,麵質不會太腍,好!牛筋煲得好腍,又入味,好得。雲吞好味,沒有肥豬肉,雖然不是最好,但比起好多賣雲吞麵的鋪頭好。豆腐花滑,但出面有好多賣豆腐花的鋪頭比它更滑。坐得舒服又飽肚,但都係覺得貴了些少。

星期六要返工,一班同事約去食過早餐先返工.見公司後面開了間" 池記" , 午餐都幾貴, 所以甘耐都無食過.但是, 原來 D 早餐都 OK 喎, 平均都是大約30 元.快餐店都要咁價錢. 今天嘗試了冬蔭公貢丸麫, 湯好香, 但都幾辣.再加一個"奶油豬", 又香又脆.連咖啡熱飲.

After a loonnggggg day,I stopped by here with my buddy because we were wanting something warm to eat. Environment and Cleanliness:We got there at about 1630,but it was pretty busy. Since the first floor was full, we were seated next to a single lady on the second floor as it was the kind of place where you share tables. We got there at about 1630,but it was pretty busy. Since the first floor was full, we were seated next to a single lady on the second floor as it was the kind of place where you share tables. Since we were so tired, it felt great to sit down in their soft comfy chairs. Along with the soft yellow lighting, we thought we were gonna fall asleep.
The sauces and menu were in the table, which i found odd because it is not like it saved any room on the table. Anyways, the place was clean, which is all that matters.


Service:
Service was fast and the ladies that worked there were all really welcoming and friendly. When we ordered, the lady who took our order asked if we wanted separate bills too. How considerate.

Taste+ value: 
For teasets, there were different ones available. My friend ordered A, which was a bowl of noodles + a hot drink. ($32) I ordered set B, which was a bowl of noodles, a hot drink and my choice of turnip cake, rice rolls or sticky rice. ($40) Not bad deals in my opinion. Both of us chose wonton noodles because that is what they are known for. As for our drinks, we both got the hot pearl barley water as people claim it is healthy. haha The drink was good but a little sweet. I think it was sweetened with the huge date i found in my cup so at least I can convince myself it's better than jsut adding sugar? 
 However, they might have added sugar in as well, I don't know. Then I tried my noodles. I had a sip of the broth and it was pretty good. The noodles were, however a bit disappointing. The texture was nice but they lacked flavour.
 The wontons were good but small. It seemed that there was more shrimps than pork in it, which was to my liking.
You got 4 in a bowl. Now, I need to talk about the turnip cake I got. It was TERRIBLE! 
 It was barely edible! The plate it was on was burning hot when it arrived and then I noticed that it started to crinkle up as it sat so I knew for sure it was microwaved! 
I was really disppointed with my turnip cake. PLEASE DON'T EVER ORDER IT! IT WAS GROSS.

The final Verdict:
The environment was nice but the food was average. Every customer gets a $6 coupon along with the bill so I might use it to have breakfast there sometime as I'm curious about their fried noodles. I just hope that they won't be like the turnip cake. Maybe check out other places before you come to this place. I really don't see how this place made it into the top 10 wonton noodles chart.

池記給我的感覺, 是集團式經營的雲吞麵, 近年高檔化之後, 食物質素總算保持一定水準, 不能說內什麼驚喜。中環的池記, 勝在地點方便, 有時在晚上經過中環, 一個人不知吃什麼好, 便想也不想地去池記。最近再訪, 發現除了原有的飯麵套餐外, 新增了幾款炒粉麵飯套餐, 飯加湯加糖水, 大約要HK$115, 雖然有點貴, 仍決定一試。炒粉麵飯中, 我揀了「蝦籽、鹹魚、雞粒炒飯」,最近去了廣州吃炒飯, 當地炒得比較多油, 原來有點油水才是正宗的粵菜炒飯, 只是香港的炒飯愈來愈少油了。另外,炒油當然要夠鑊氣吧。看我眼前這碟炒飯,雖然賣相美觀,但就是缺了這兩點,油了少了點和鑊氣也少了,感覺較乾身。但又並非一無是處,至少蝦籽份量充足且香,鹹魚味也香,如果喜歡炒飯爽口的話,這碟炒飯其實不錯的,只是我要求高了點。餐湯: 海蝦雲吞火腿雞湯大大隻雞脾加雲吞,還有底下的火腿粒,食材份量十足。湯很鮮味,雞味香濃,加上火腿的鹹味,成為一盅味道豐富的湯,是水準之上的。糖水的選擇是「海底椰雪耳糖水」跟雲吞雞湯一樣,這糖水材料份量足,清甜的海底椰和爽口的雪耳,好有咬口,且糖水味道甜而不漏。整體來說,這個炒飯套餐沒有驚喜

跟雲吞雞湯一樣,這糖水材料份量足,清甜的海底椰和爽口的雪耳,好有咬口,且糖水味道甜而不漏。

整體來說,這個炒飯套餐沒有驚喜,但水準還算可以,如果不想考慮太多去吃什麼的話,我還是會再來。但如想吃一些夠鑊氣的炒飯,池記當然就不是這回事了。

下午茶,見無咩野特別想食,做試下池記。好似佢地既細蓉幾好咁。 入到去,食了個細蓉同桶子雞。老公叫了個細蓉,佢話都OK,不過麵仍質比較硬,仍有梘水味,雲吞又太細粒沒有咬感。 以這個價錢可以有其他更好的選擇。最離譜既係個桶子雞,成個雞同飯都係凍既。【賣相】十分不耐好。【茶飯】淡已無味,多油。【雞】 凍既, 雞鞋口,無雞味, 好似放了好耐既冰鮮雞。【東菇】都係凍既,都係無味既, 點解連東菇都可以無味既呢?**我問店員,點解個賣相同相差咁遠, 回覆係:「因為相片係雞肶,所以靚D」,我白思不得其解,就算係用雞胸也可以弄得美觀點吧?!! 加上,成個飯係冰凍既真係離晒譜,去茶餐廳都有個熱飯食呀,佢地重比茶餐廳貴D添!!!!

Chee Kei 池記 has been in Hong Kong for nearly 20 years. Instead of being aggressive in expanding their outlets, it aims at producing wanton noodles in the classical way and modern interior design. This branch in Central will definitely packed with office guys for lunch. However, once beyond its peak hours, one can relax oneself for a traditional noodle set when the crowd is gone. The afternoon tea sets Chee Kai offers are not cheap and jumps start at $32. That’s Central!

I was not sure if the serving size was the same as ordered a la carte, it was quite small when compared to the one we commonly had. Instead of chucks of tendons, a few small and thin slices were found in the bowl, very soft and with a good taste of star anise, Chinese peppercorn and other spices. The two pieces of radish was juicy and sweet. Noodles were not of egg flavour as the smell of “alkaline water” dominated.

The 2 pieces of radish pudding looked starchy and stiff, howerver, when I found that I was wrong when I crossed it into halves. I saw threads of radish interweaving each others. The pudding was hot thought not pan fried in perfect golden brown. The mixture with Chinese mushrooms and sausage dices was in right balance.

c) Barley Drink (afternoon tea set) – 8/10

Grains of barley settled at the bottom of the glass. Besides, slices of ginger and a dried sweetened date were found to give a soothing yet gingery flavour.

Not too late for congee:

I foolishly thought I might get a place in this shop during lunchtime one day so I walked from Admiralty to here. I immediately walked to another shop once I saw a huge queue with about 15-20 in the line.


I persisted and came here during dinner time. This time I got in effortlessly.

Menu:

They had a large number of standard congee types as well as different types of egg noodles, some in soup with different toppings and lo mien (noodles served on a place without broth with various toppings).

I ordered a thousand year egg congee with salt-marinated lean pork meat.

The taste of the congee was nothing spectacular. Decent texture but not as smooth as Wai Kee or Wong Chi Kei. Not a lot of ingredients. Just a few shreds of lean meat and half a thousand year egg with a sprinkle of dried scallops. The scallops didn't really helped enhance the taste.

The thousand year egg was pretty good. Apparently, a good quality thousand year egg should have some transparent crack-like patterns on the surface of the dark colored egg "white". Just like the mineral patterns on a slab of marble. Those here had that. The texture was firm and the taste was quite mild as far as thousand year eggs are concerned.

(You might know this already, but thousand year egg was once voted one of the ten most scary food in the world! I think the process of making foie gras might be scarier.
)

I think Wong Chi Kei serve much smoother and thicker congee. Canton Teahouse also serve good congee with a very smooth texture.

If you prefer a congee less dense than the two mentioned above, San Kee at Sheung Wan, Wai Kee at Central and Fuk Kei at Mong Kok all serve very flavourful congees. No one could beat Wai Kee's when it comes to value for money though.

The good thing is that I didn't feel thirsty afterwards, so there may not be any MSG in it. (Mind you, I'm not a very sensitive MSG detector!)

Wonton noodles: The first thing to note is the presentation. This is the traditionally way of serving wonton noodles. The wontons were tucked below the noodles inside the spoon, elevating the noodles to maintain the springy texture of the noodles.

The noodles were quite chewy but I couldn't really detect much egg taste in the noodles. Those at Mak's Noodles, Wing Wah and Wong Chi Kei all faired better. However, it's still better in terms of taste and texture than Tsim Jai Kei because of its good texture and the saline flounder soup with chives. All in all, nothing to write home about but no complaints either.

The flounder soup base had quite a lot of prawn roes and chopped Chinese chives. It's not as refreshing as those at Wing Wah. The seafood taste was more muted. Similar to those at Mak's noodles but with more prawn roes. Pretty good.

Wontons consisted of what was referred to as "sea prawns" (A type of marine prawns, according to Wiki, it's called Indian Prawns). Very decent prawn taste. I don't recall much pork, if any, in the wontons. The prawns had very good umami. Good!




Conclusion:

All in all, the congee and noodles were decent.
However, the broth and wontons did leave a good impression.
Convenient location, open till 10:30 p.m.
Worth a try if you're around.

雲吞麵份量很細,但仍落足料。那麵身彈性,不韌,可以用「爽口」形容吧!麵的鹼水味不強,下些少醋便可以了。雲吞是中等大小,裡面的餡料混和了蝦肉和豬肉,爽口又鮮甜。 湯底有一陣蝦的香氣和鮮味,整碗也喝掉。

由於在中環內食個 Lunch ,普遍都 四十元,所以發現了 “ 池記 “ 呢個假日套餐, 價錢都幾優惠。 雖然要在 40 分鐘之內結賬,但其實時間也是足夠的。 可能是因為假日的關係,店內也頗為多人。 但一兩個人都是容易搵位的, 內裹環境乾淨企理,店員也友善,只是座位較逼!而一落完單,大約5分鐘左右,食物很快便上枱! 雖然豬軟骨的份量不是很多,但是還是可以的! 豬軟骨味道濃郁, 而且軟骨部份炇到 “ 軟 “ ,入口感覺到好 “ 膠質 “。薏米水 只有熱的,薏米夠淋而且很有薑味!如果在冬天飲一定好保暖!
