Kürtőskalács, a cylinder like cake, rolled in sugar that caramelizes the exterior and then filled with cream. Of course, Hong Kong, the city that picks up all sorts of foodie trends, have brought in the chimney cone.
Located in Tsim Sha Tsui, in the alleyway behind Cotton On, is a small take away only shop selling chimney cones.
They have a machine that rotates the pastry into a cone shape that is then baked.
The price of one cone costs $38.
You choose what type of ice cream (chocolate or milk), type of sauce (mango, chocolate, caramel) and one topping (caramel popcorn, popping candy and koko krunch).
The cones are already prepared so all they do is add the ice cream and toppings.
Definitely social media friendly, isn't it? The good? The cone. It was a wonderfully sweet bread-like texture. A great crunchy coating from the caramelized sugar. Lovely coating of nuts. The bad? The ice cream. It tasted like ice and I would probably say this was more a sorbet than ice cream. For $38, I expected better ice cream.
It was good but for $38, the ice cream was a total disappointment. And thus, this review went from a smile to an ok.
