註冊咗openrice好耐, 但第一次寫食評, 一寫就寫斯里蘭卡菜, 我都係第一次食斯里蘭卡o野~~~上排見 介紹完, 間野又喺我公司附近, 於是星期六返半日收工後就走去試吓~~~由於得2個人, 所以嗌咗個細嘅小食拼盤入面好多都係d飽肚野, 好似薯仔咁........食完個拼盤2人已經飽咗一半~~~~之後叫咗個抄薄餅中辣開頭第一啖唔覺佢辣, 點知愈食愈辣同惹味, 值得一試, 而且佢d薄餅係碎上, 幾特別~~~跟住食埋個咖哩四季豆呢個就冇乜驚喜, 但都ok~~~跟住叫咗個banana lassi 同埋apple cider (即係四季豆隔離嗰枝) $48 有500ml, 飲極都唔完咁~~~~ 佢話有酒精但我feel唔到~~~不過味道ok, 當試吓新野囉~~~埋單$327, lunch嚟講都幾貴~~~~~

跟住叫咗個banana lassi 同埋apple cider (即係四季豆隔離嗰枝) $48 有500ml, 飲極都唔完咁~~~~ 佢話有酒精但我feel唔到~~~不過味道ok, 當試吓新野囉~~~

未叫野食已送上小食一藍, 脆卜卜既餅配上酸甜醬汁真係好好味,個配醬真係好特別酸酸甜甜又唔似係蕃茄, 配上脆卜卜既薄脆好岩我口味...相比一般既印度店食薄脆這間脆得多同香口.

店員介紹下我地叫左黑羊咖哩(中辣), 椰絲薄餅, 小食拚盤(小)及一杯芒果lassi.

小食拚盤有5款小食. 好耐都無人為我地介紹5款小食其實係咩來, 點知這裡既中國人女服務員為我地5款一一介紹, 真係令我地好驚訝. ,我地2個share來食已經好足夠, 不過老實講個小食麻麻地樣樣都炸得好過火, 最重要係5款小食每樣都餡料都好似用薯仔做餡, 基本上我地覺得5款小食既味道都好似一樣.唔見都無所謂.

至於個黑羊咖哩, 落ORDER時已問我地要中辣/大辣, 我地問左店員他們建議我地食中辣, 好彩來到試食一件心已叫好彩只係叫中辣, 唔係叫左大辣就會浪費.
基本上中辣已經好夠辣, 如果大辣來講我就覺得會蓋過羊既味道同埋會過辣唔好味.

另外椰絲薄餅同樣好味, 起碼係出面我從未試過這個薄餅, 用上椰絲做配料個餅帶有少少微甜配上火辣既羊肉真係唔錯...不過我都係建議分開食好D, 因為本身羊肉已經好重味, 如果配上個薄餅來食就食唔出個薄餅既椰香味道.

至於飲品同樣出色, 這個飲品比起一般我係印度食店飲既lassi更加重乳酪味道, 好好飲.

這店無論食物同服務都值得一讚,此店不收加一服務, 大家有去西貢都唔一定要食海鮮, 此店都可以考慮

今天是我和女友一週年紀念, 當然要找一間浪漫西餐廳慶祝一下, 行過西貢找東西吃, 無意中發現此店, 環境一流:餐前贈送小吃: 像薯片般香脆, 配以婆羅汁, 十分特別雜錦併盆: 炸得比較乾身, 但味道香濃, 可以一試咖哩雞: 沒有薯仔的咖哩雞, 都覺得非常野味, 又不是太辣炒薄餅: 我個人則不太接受, 因為味道很濃, 不太合適港人口味服務方面: 待應招乎一流, 不停加水, 非常好

It was a nice night dining with all the friends from uni and felt great that we are able to pack almost all of the restaurant! =P The food was quite good since I haven’t tried any Sri Lankan food before. I guess it’s kind of middle-eastern style where they like to use deep fried food as starter and spicy dishes are usually their main dishes. The deep fried dish was pretty good since they use different food ingredients like fish, pork, vegetables in each of them. So they all add different flavors

The food was quite good since I haven’t tried any Sri Lankan food before. I guess it’s kind of middle-eastern style where they like to use deep fried food as starter and spicy dishes are usually their main dishes. The deep fried dish was pretty good since they use different food ingredients like fish, pork, vegetables in each of them. So they all add different flavors in it.

The main dish was a sweet and sour eggplant, and fish curry with something like Indian style naan (not sure its name
). The curry wasn’t very spicy since we’ve mentioned that we’re not very good at spicy, so it was very nice for them to adjust the flavor for us.

It was more like an exploration on new cuisine rather than sole enjoyment of food itself. So I would recommend people to go if they want to try something different, and would like to visit there again if I have time!

Last week my ELBS groupmate and I went to AJ Sri Lanka restaurant for dinner. In general I think that the experience was wonderful. Both the food and the atmosphere left great impression on me.We ordered some appetizers, curry chicken&fish, some special pancakes(sorry that I forgot the exact name) and a dish of eggplants. Last week my ELBS groupmate and I went to AJ Sri Lanka restaurant for dinner. In general I think that the experience was wonderful. Both the food and the atmosphere left great impression on me.
We ordered some appetizers, curry chicken&fish, some special pancakes(sorry that I forgot the exact name) and a dish of eggplants. I found the curry courses the most scrumptious ones. The curry sauce was rich but not tangy, and also not THAT spicy. The chicken was soft, but the fish seemed to be a little hard. In addition, the eggplant tasted fantastic when mixed with curry. I also treated myself with a cup of mongo lassi, and that creamy yoghurt-like beverage was really worth it .($35)
The atmosphere in AJ was warm and friendly, with pictures of Sri Lanka giving me a sense of mystery and nature. I enjoyed it a lot when friends chatted and shared delicious food when having dinner, and AJ was just the right place to be in.
I really enjoyed the dinner in AJ, and I hope that I can go to try some other dishes again there!

Papadam is crispy enough, together with pineapple chutney. A fabulous match.Chicken curry is my favourite when dining in non-Chinese restaurant. Spiciness here is appropriate, as Sri Lanka's, but bear in mind that it is spicier y than Hong Kong style curry

Since we have booked the place for our Dinner Across Culture, we did not need to wait for seats at all.We have tried their appetiser, eggplant, curry chicken, lamb and a bean stuff.I think the lamb there is pretty good. If you are really interested in spicy food, you should try the lamb. Since we just ordered mild for the spicy level, the lamb was already pretty spicy.The enviornment there is pretty nice and I think it is a place worth going.

We didn't really order food from the menu but instead, had it all planned for us.Tasted a variety of Sri Lankan dishes from potato/beef/mutton "samosas" (I don't know the real name), to curries and an assortment of vegetables and meats. The food was good and to make it better, the cosy ambience and comfortable level of noisy chatter made our time there very enjoyable. Ate at least 6 roti, that I felt was good. Reminded me of home.Thanks a lot for having us this evening AJ's!Cheers!

We landed up here on an early Sunday evening after a hike from Tai Long Wan, so we were pretty hungry and tired and looking forward to a tasty and filling meal. Only a couple of tables were filled when we walked in, but they had a long table arranged on one side for a big group they were expecting and we were allowed to take 2 seats on the edge of it if we finished by 8pm. Which was OK since that gave us about 2 hours.I like the interior of this restaurant, its small but doesnt give you the feel

We landed up here on an early Sunday evening after a hike from Tai Long Wan, so we were pretty hungry and tired and looking forward to a tasty and filling meal. Only a couple of tables were filled when we walked in, but they had a long table arranged on one side for a big group they were expecting and we were allowed to take 2 seats on the edge of it if we finished by 8pm. Which was OK since that gave us about 2 hours.

I like the interior of this restaurant, its small but doesnt give you the feeling of being excessively cluttered. The owners havent stuffed chairs in all possible nook and cranny just to make sure that they use every inch of space. The walls are decorated with pictures from Sri-Lanka. The sort you would expect in a Sri-Lanka tourism Agency with a couple of large LCD screen on which Sri-Lanka was playing the World Cup Cricket Live.

I had never had Sri-Lankan food before, so I didnt know what to expect. I am Indian and have had a lot of Indian food and could kind of guess the flavor of things to come from the descriptions in the menu.

Went ahead an order the snack platter with Samosas and Fishballs, couldnt go wrong there. Also ordered the "eggplant moju". I had never heard of that dish before and looked interesting.

The rotis about $40 per plate and looked plain overpriced. Must be the most expensive rotis in HK. They were almost at par wiith the cheaper starter dishes, which is usually not the case. They give 2 per plate though, so its effectively $20/ pc. Still expensive

Anyways, I wanted Lachcha Paratha which wasnt on the menu, when I asked AJ, he told me its not a problem and can easily do it for me.

Egg Plant Moju

Very Tasty. This is egg plant and green pepper cut in strips and then fried with onion in mustard sauce. A totally new taste which is very different from the standard Indian "eggplant bharta". The texture of the dish was consistent and the green pepper was not crunchier and did not stand out from the rest of the ingredients. Nice.

Later, I would try to cook it at home (courtesy online recipes) and it did turn out quite well. It took a hell of a lot of time though. Dunno how AJ's could have dished it out so quickly. Mebbe thats why they are running a restaurant and I am not.

Chicken :

I do not remember the name of this chicken dish, but have attached the picture below. It was just all right, nothing special. Fried chicken in tomato sauce, stir fried with onion and green pepper. A bit like the Indian "Chilli Chicken" but not as spicy. I would not re-order this, there were a lot of other exotic items on offer.

Lachcha Paratha:

Tasty. Flaky and soft. Had that whiff of Butter/Ghee flavor that makes you want more of it and makes it impossible for you to stop eating.
It did made it impossible for me to stop at 1 plate and had to go for a second plate.

Overall : The food was good but was a bit on the expensive side.

And he was very polite and courteous. His name's RJ, and he said the restaurant was named after his son AJ, chuckling as he pointed at a photo on the wall with him, a Chinese lady (his wife) and a 3 year old kid in it. The ice cold beer was served in a chilled mug, which was refreshing on a surprisingly hot February day, and only cost $20. It went well with the thin crispy poppadom with chutney. The place was very nicely decorated with ornaments from Sri Lanka and lots of pictures of the wild life, elephants in the conservation zoo etc. The shop opposite was drilling like mad, and RJ quickly closed the door to shut out the sound. Good man, very attentive.

We ordered the appetizer platter which had the fish roti with the purple potato filling, dhal verde, samosa, spring roll and fish cutlet. The fish roti was fantastic and a completely new thing to me, the others were a little dry (reheated I suspect) but overall tasted fine. Then we had the String Hopper Rothu, a cashew biryani rice (we ordered just steamed rice but he was a little creative, but it was a good choice), and the eggplant moju, which had an interesting flavour - not exactly sweet, but kinda tangy with a bit of spice to it, very nice with the rice, but just a tad oily. The hopper rothu was packed densely into a bowl before being served, and the individual noodles were not quite visibly, so you end up eating more like a dense paste of carb mixed with chicken, egg and other goodies. It was a good dish on its own, or alternatively would have gone well with dhal or curry.

I enjoyed the weekday lunch set in this cozy and homefelt restaurant. The female shopowner provided timely and polite service, and it's good value for lunch sets. Actually there are a lot other choices in the meun. The food looks special and tastes good, even suitable for veggi. I will definitely long for another chance to host a dinner gathering at the venue! highly recommended!

星期日, 太太的幾個好友來探望我們的小寶寶. 到了食飯時間, 先把BB安頓好給家人, 便駒車帶著幾位甜姐兒, 來試試甚麼叫做斯里蘭卡菜. 一行5人, 行到入西貢舊墟深處, 甜源居旁邊. 一間連裝修都帶點特色的餐廳, 未食, 已經覺得極度吸引. 看了看Menu, 大部份的菜式都近似食開的印巴式咖喱. 同樣, 見面禮是一盆Poppadom, 薄脆餅. 不過得一個帶點甜酸的醬, 沒有其他醬揀, 有點不開心. 但最重要是薄餅夠脆, 好的是胡椒味不重, 沒有辣的口感. 不吃Spicy的人, 也好容易接受.食南亞野, 頭盤, 我們都幾乎會叫Samosa. 印度的咖喱角. 食過各地的咖喱角, 各有不同的做法, 各有不同的餡料. 食開的印巴餐廳, 個Samosa是成座金字塔咁的, 呢度, 外面一層加多了麵包糠, 有少少似吉列, 形狀就真的是一個三角體. 餡料有純素的, 亦有雞肉的. 少少辣, 熱食亦好香口. 細細件的, 好既係, 唔會食滯你.主菜, 食南亞野, 忘不了的, 是咖喱. 四個Main當中, 就有3個是咖喱類的. 看了看Menu, 大部份的菜式都近似食開的印巴式咖喱. 同樣, 見面禮是一盆Poppadom, 薄脆餅. 不過得一個帶點甜酸的醬, 沒有其他醬揀, 有點不開心. 但最重要是薄餅夠脆, 好的是胡椒味不重, 沒有辣的口感. 不吃Spicy的人, 也好容易接受.

主菜, 食南亞野, 忘不了的, 是咖喱. 四個Main當中, 就有3個是咖喱類的. Dhal Curry (扁豆咖喱), Lamb Black Curry (黑咖喱羊肉), Salmon Yellow Curry (黃三文魚咖喱). 而另外一味是叫Dhallo (斯式魷魚).

扁豆咖喱, 屬不辣的咖喱. 呢味咖喱, 好好汁, 好好送飯. 充滿香料既味道, 又帶點椰香, 有少少甜, 同印式的Korma分別不大. 怕吃辣的一個朋友大讚好食.

黃三文魚咖喱, 燈光問題吧, 我覺得是紅咖喱, 不過再想一想, 紅色的, 不是辣椒油, 而是三文魚本身的魚油. 肥美的三交魚, 用咖喱煮到佢連油都出埋. 但食落, 又不覺粗鞋, 口感依然滑嘟嘟. 那個半辣的咖喱汁, 加入了三文魚油的香. 鮮味沉汁底. 不過因了多了三文魚油, 而且個汁比較稀, 撈飯不太好.

黑咖喱羊肉, 是我點選的巨辣辟好. 不過, 身旁的人對辣既接受程度較低, 還是吩咐侍應, 減辣減辣. 雖是減了辣, 但依然是全餐最辣的一味. 眾肉食女士們, 看似有心無力的, 吃了幾口就敬而遠之. 這個咖喱, 味道辣而濃, 用了斯里蘭卡地道的香料, 弄得黑黑的, 香味亦好獨特. 真的, 不食開印度咖喱的人, 是不懂欣賞的. 香味怪, 我食得多咖喱, 也不太習慣呢個味道. 而且羊肉韌了少少.

好味的主菜, 仲有一個斯式炒魷. 用洋蔥, 彩椒, 加上他們獨特的香料. 樣子似足我們的欖角炒鮮魷, 不過帶點辣香, 味道是食得出的新鮮味道. 哈哈, 攪不好, 魷魚或許是西貢的本地貨.

叫了一個斯式炒米粉. 啊, 原來斯里蘭卡人同我地中國人一樣, 喜歡食米粉. 不過一碟黑漆漆既野放上檯. 侍應說是 (Hopper), 我們不知是什麼, 她再拿Menu給我們看, 原來全名是String Hopper Kothu斯式炒米粉. 做法原來是把米粉同配料切碎, 再煮成一pat野, 再一砵咁上檯. 看得多Travel & Living, 這不就是那些南亞土人, 整了一pat黑漆漆的東西, 用土瑶煮出來, 一pat pat咁用手拿來食的東東......

我們接受到, 就食, 味道香, 帶點spicy, 米粉...吃不出, 不過算是幾煙韌. 撈上咖喱汁來食, 味道都幾獨特.

Lamprais, 是斯里蘭卡蕉葉飯. 外表同我們的荷葉飯一樣, 配料有金菇, 腰果, 雜菜同炸蛋一隻. 飯的確帶點蕉葉香. 配料的汁, 也滲入了飯內. 本身以經有味, 不撈汁, 也是非常的味美. 可是, 感覺濃了一點.

頗特別的一個晚宴, 頗開心的一個相聚. 斯里蘭卡菜, 的確係幾有特色. 印度菜, 巴基斯坦菜, 尼泊爾菜, 斯里蘭卡菜, 已經食過哂. 下次需要找找有沒有孟加拉菜, 不丹菜同額什米爾菜. 滿足一下我的咖喱狂熱.
