Let me start with - the service was great! The staff team was super nice! Went there for lunch but can only do set (about 500 HKD per person with non-alcoholic drinks). Good deal if you can eat a lot cuz you can top up the appetisers and drinks; but we can’t eat much so 🤷🏻‍♀️. I wish they offered a la carte cuz I actually went for their coconut noodle and tea leave salad which I loved last time I went - but they are not on the set menu. So we ended up paying 1100+ for a meal that we didn’t feel 1

First time trying Burmese restaurant in town, the decor is really nice, rich in green and cozy warm wood palate with local Burma photographs hung around the walls. They had a new lunch set menu (2023); starters: crispy Potato & Mutton ( lamb) Samusa with a hint of mint sauce, zesty and nutty Laphey Thoke salad 🥗( you’ll be in for a surprise), for the main we tried the spicy but creamy and delicious signature Mohinga rice noodles 🍜 with lemongrass catfish broth. 🤔️Samusa其實係咖哩角 有mutton及薯仔選擇 但我呢啲全都要但又極細食嘅麻煩撚就問可唔可以混合 員工都好好人畀我咁溝 兩者比較下就mutton好食好多 薯仔較普通🤏🏼

😋Ohh No Khout Swel係椰子🥥撈麵 配料簡單只有雞蛋麵 椰子同香芧 好食唯一係整得太稠 液體狀少少🤏🏼會平衡啲
😋必須讚下環境我好喜歡 展示到緬甸文化同時又不失呢個價位餐廳嘅格局 不過好搞笑係一邊勁多相掛住 掛到極密 另一邊就零搭配
😨呢間最大問題係佢份量係過份地少 連我胃口細都覺得太少 正常食量嘅朋友都要人均500蚊先食得飽‼️

【Mohinga - 香茅鲶鱼浓汤米粉】
缅甸街头的鱼汤面,感觉就像车仔面在香港那样常见(没去过缅甸,如有不对还请指正),这一碗可以形容为street food的顶配了。

用的是细而圆的米粉,口感软韧,极大程度地吸收了鲶鱼汤底的鲜美,炸豌豆和辣椒油的加持,仿佛给碗中施了魔法一样精彩。

【La Phet Thoke - 腌渍茶叶沙律】
基底是蒸制后发酵的茶叶,混合细碎的卷心菜丝、西红柿、炸豌豆、花生和蒜片等,绚丽的色彩已经传达出丰富的食材搭配。
·
风味跟泰式沙律的酸辣和印尼菜沙律的浓厚都不同,既有鱼露和虾米把普通的食材吊出鲜味,也有大蒜、辣椒的微辣和青柠的微酸相辅相成,酱汁伴随着脆爽的口感润入口舌,令人陶醉。

【Thar Gu - 椰香杏仁西米糕】
在缅甸算得上国民甜品,它跟泰式椰汁西米糕是两码事,是由颗颗晶莹的西米和细腻绵密的椰奶卡仕达层层堆叠出来的。
·
看上去有点扎实有点腻,实则不然,不仅有着沁人心脾的浓甜,也有着青柠独特而清新的微酸后来居上,撒上海量的杏仁片,口中酥香萦绕。

I think these are Burmese style samosas? They taste pretty similar to Indian samosas. But they were quite thin and not chonky at all. Thin in both skin and filling. Reminded me of the kind of samosas you can get at a party/buffet.

Salad was decent portion, taste was OK but nothing spectacular in my opinion. Felt like it could've used more spices or sauces because overall it tasted a bit bland, but then again, as I said, I don't know enough about Burmese food to comment!

Flavour profile reminds me of laksa noodles. The soup had a nice blend of flavours and spices, but I felt like it was missing something. Maybe it could've been more spicy? I don't know. An okay tasting dish, just no wow-factor.

This was absolutely delicious, my favourite dish of the evening. However, the portion feels barely enough for one person. And while this was very tasty, it was also very expensive at $348! I feel like I could've eaten something similar for half the price at one of the many Indian/Middle-Eastern restaurants we have in Hong Kong. The menu says that the beef used is Australian Wagyu beef cheek, which probably explains the cost....

Desserts: (The waitress recommended that sharing one between two would suffice, but we wanted to try more so we ordered two desserts. I'm glad we did, because the portions were again quite small...)

Size was a standard single scoop of ice cream. (one person can easily finish it). I liked the banana crumble on the side, it added a nice texture to the dessert, but the burmese tea flavour was rather subtle. It's there, but you really have to look for it (or in this case, taste for it).

Of the two desserts, we preferred this one. We liked the balance between the creaminess of the custard and the freshness and chewiness of the sago. A sweet and refreshing dessert to finish off the meal.

We also ordered two cocktails: 3PM in Rangoon ($128, 4/5 Boozy Level) and Sugarcane Sour ($118, 1.5 Boozy Level). The drinks were tasty, but their alcohol portions are similar to their food portions - which is not a lot
I guess while that was too be expected for the Sugarcane Sour due to its low boozy level, I found 3PM in Rangoon to be quite weak as well.

The bill came to around $1300 for two persons including two cocktails (or $650 per person). While not outrageously expensive, the portions were definitely on the smaller side - I felt like we left without really having a proper dinner. Just doesn't feel quite right for the price we paid. I must say though, the service was fantastic throughout. Maybe worth a try once - but only at lunchtime if they have lunch sets? Hard to recommend paying the a la carte prices for dinner.

💞整體來講
見佢係香港比較少嘅緬甸餐廳,而且環境幾靚,所以專誠去試。不過定價就真係有啲高,呢個價錢會期望更特別更好食😶不過服務都算唔錯,喺度慶祝會所有職員同你一齊唱生日歌,仲有把緬甸傳統遮俾你攞住影相📸️。

Pic 1️⃣: Kha Yan Thee Hnat (Aubergine Curry)
— This was AMAZING. It’s served with your choice of Burmese curry, Burmese-style creamed corn, stir-fried morning glory, Pennywort salad, balachaung and steamed rice. When I say this was full of flavour I mean it, the aubergine curry was so flavourful and packed with aromatic spices. It wasn’t overly spicy and had the perfect amount of seasoning to it. I also loved the creamed corn on the side, it wasn’t too heavy and had a slight sweetness to it which lightened up the dish. I really recommend mixing all of the different elements together to get even more flavour.


Pic 2️⃣: Shan Khout Swel (Rice Noodles with Chicken Thigh in Spicy Garlic Oil)
— I’d eat this for lunch everyday if I could 😍 Another very flavourful dish with a kick to it. The noodles were able to soak up all the goodness from the spicy garlic oil and each bite was just as flavourful as the last. The acidity from the pickles really helps cut through the spice too.


Pic 3️⃣: Street Food Platter (Potato Samusa, Palatha & Dip, A Kyaw Sone)
— Great way to start off the meal! Really enjoyed both the potato samusa and palatha as the filling was really well seasoned and fried to a super crispy finish. Thought the vegetable fritters could be improved as they were way too oily and slightly soft. I loved all of the dips that came with the platter as they all had a nice tanginess to them that really stimulated your appetite even further.


Pic 4️⃣: Wat Thar Hin (Pork Belly Curry)
— Similar to the aubergine curry, but the pork belly curry is slightly spicier. The dish is also slightly more dense as the pork belly is quite fatty. Other than that, flavours were just as rich, and the meat was tender.


Pic 5️⃣: Burmese Tea Ice Cream served with Banana Crumble
— Usually not a fan of banana desserts but I enjoyed this a lot more than expected! The Burmese tea ice cream had a nice tea aroma to it but personally thought it could’ve been richer. There’s also a slight malt flavour to it which was interesting. I wasn’t really a fan of the gloopy texture of the banana crumble, but once you get past it it’s quite pleasant. It’s a bit too rich and thick of a dessert for me, especially after a meal which such bold flavours, but others might love this.


📍Ambiance: spacious, beautiful interior, staff are friendly and take time to explain each dish

甜品繼續帶嚟驚喜🤩,雪糕嘅茶味非常突出,底下係朱古力脆片同香蕉蓉🍌,奶茶同香蕉嘅味道出奇地夾,加埋脆片嘅質感,食完令人回味🥰。

However, one of the few countries that was seldomly seen represented in town is Burma. My only recollection on the food was from a small eatery we visited in Macau. Therefore, we had a lot of anticipation when we came to this restaurant on Aberdeen Street.

Immediately I got attracted to the beautiful logo featuring a peacock and the dark jade color used extensively in the interior design. Seated at the booth sofa at the back of the restaurant, there was a subtle immersion into the Burmese culture, through the many photos showing glimpses of life in the country, connecting us to the memories of founder Nelson Htoo.

Ordering Da Nyin Gone ($98), a mocktail to quench my thirst after walking up the steep road from Central, we asked for some recommendations on food, and the staff did a good job in explaining the different dishes on the menu and helped us navigate some of the signature dishes to order.

The first dish was La Phet Thoke, or Tea Leaf Salad ($140). According to the staff, this is the country’s favorite salad and most popular dish. The chef had pickled the tea leaves, then mixed with shredded cabbage and onion, along with some cherry tomatoes, Burmese crunchy peas, and an abundance of sesames. The marinade of fish sauce and lime provided appetizing acidity and savory flavors. While the pickled tea leaves were quite unique in taste, it was a bit too salty.

The other appetizer we ordered was Village-Style Egg Curry Bites ($115). Inspired by a local street food, the chef had soft-boiled the free-range eggs in curry and then putting some caramelized onion, dried shrimps, peas, and nuts, with a coriander sauce. We both liked this better than the salad, in the way the different ingredients integrated well to give a complex array of spicy, savory, and sweet flavors, to the contrasting texture of the soft egg and crunchy peas and nuts. Highly recommended.

The Mohinga ($170) is a national dish. A soup noodle, the catfish broth was rich in flavors, with the lemongrass bringing in fragrance to the thin round rice noodles. The crispy split peas, soft-boiled egg, coriander, and homemade chili oil all added to a complete feast in taste and texture, with the different elements surprisingly well harmonized. A must try in my opinion.

The main dish we ordered was Ngar Kin Chin Sat or Roasted Whole Sea Bream ($395). The roasted sea bream was nicely seasoned, garnished with an abundance of refreshing ginger and lemongrass. Not only did the herbs provided a sweet spicy and fragrance to the fish, the crunchy bite was also a good complement on texture too.

Wrapping up with dessert, we had Burmese Tea Ice-cream ($120). It was a tribute to the tea culture of Burma and the many tea houses across the nation, with the chef making the ice-cream using the elevated Burmese milk tea, adjusted with reduced sweetness to cater for local preference. On the bottom there was the banana crumble, again playing the card of mixing the different texture to provide an interesting contrast on the palate. A nice one as well.

Service was good, with the staff friendly and eager to help, despite being very busy with full-booking on a no-special Wednesday evening, demonstrating the restaurant's popularity. The bill was $1,197 which is reasonable. Whether to explore the Burma cuisine, or simply to enjoy a nice meal, this restaurant is a good place to consider.
