F&B has built up a good reputation for the quality of their food and produce from around the world. They’ve recently moved into cooked food with their Happy Balley branch and this new venture beneath the Bohemian is an adventurous attempt to expand into new territories. The premise is part butcher, part restaurant, the USP being they will cook the meat for you at ‘raw’ price plus service charge. We went in opening week and the place was full on a Wednesday evening. Rather than selecting a steak each we went for the Butchers Choice. For this you let the butcher choose the food up to a value of $300 per person. You can of course state what you don’t want to have to narrow down the selection. We said no to pork chops but yes to everything else.
After a short wait we were asked how we would like the steak selections cooked. There was a fillet and ribeye on offer which we asked for medium rare.
The food is cooked on an open kitchen at the back which is always a nice touch.
When the meal arrived there was a collective ‘ooh’ as the massive platter of meat arrived. It also came with what they called roast potatoes (actually wedges), thick fries, ratatouille and obligatory salad. The sides were very good and the salad was especially fresh.
On to the main event.
Fillet - absolutely beautiful. Probably around 250g. Cooked to perfection and butter soft
Ribeye - 300g roughly. Lovely crust from being seared and again, perfectly cooked.
Sausage - this was the red wine sausage. We had one between us and the wine really comes through in the taste. Hard to get wrong.
Chicken and pork kebabs. The chicken was nice but the pork was too dry.
All in all it was a true success. This take on a shared mixed grill was good value and the food was of the highest quality.
Drinks wise there’s a quality selection of wines and a very reasonable $100 corkage charge. Probably the cheapest we have seen in a long time.
As it was opening week there were a few service boggles but they will sure be ironed out over time. It would have been nice to have a sauce for the steaks which you get for free with the self select steak option but seemingly not for the Butchers Choice. We also were table checked which us Brits find rare to non existent in Hong Kong.
Overall 8.5/10
