Had this dinner along time ago, but just found the photos.

Ordered the following:

Firahk Bil Roman: Baby chicken stuffed with apricot, figs, and raisins cooked in pomegranate flavoured sauce.
Very fruity with tender chicken.
Babaganough: Roasted eggplant with tahina and lemon juice
This was nice and tangy, and the texture is unlike eggplant at all, it was so nice I finished it before remembering to take a picture.
Mussaka: Layered slices of eggplant, seasoned minced lamb and vegetables topped with mashed potatoes
This was like a not spicy version of “ma poor kear ji”, the chinese minced meat thing with aubergines.

I've completed forgotten the names of the dishes.... so i'll have to just describe them:Starter - Hummos($30) with some chilli saurce in the middle. Hummos was tasty and the nan bread was average, need to be hotter (it's bearly warm) and they should provide 2 slices rather than just 1, a bit stingy i think.Main dish - grill meat platter ($200): beef, chicken, pork kabarb and a piece of lamb chop. Main dish - grill meat platter ($200): beef, chicken, pork kabarb and a piece of lamb chop. All of them were extremely cooked, terribily dry and doesn't taste of much. I got so tired of chewing the meat that i gave up in the end..... the meat platter came with roasted vegetables and rice (had nuts and rasins), the rice was lovely.
Snapper ($150) - the fillet was wrapped in leaves. Fillet like the meat was over cooked, though it's still edible. this dish also came with rice (had cinemmon), again the rice was lovely.

Service was extremely good, polite waitress/waiter and very considerate. If only the food was at the same standard...

HK$26x for 2 ppl because of the Super Monday offer.

同朋友四個人去, 試下所謂出名......嘩....一入去, 成班waiter好似見鬼咁, 見到"鬼佬"就好熱情, 好岐視我地, 求其話一二角, 個女人又用d唔咸唔淡英文話d菜點好, 一杯水都冇, 問極都冇, 最後出四杯疑似水喉水...我朋友想要熱水...居然等10分鐘, 點菜......超咸雞肉飯....勁硬肉串燒...飯就ok, 要用汁撈...又問你飲唔飲酒...發神經, 食緊班鬼佬又喳喳叫, 表演???當然冇啦.....最後食什菜加薯仔, 叫做全晚高潮.......我地四個為食鬼最後成千埋單....我老友仲話食垃圾落肚...同意

到點菜嘞,因為陳小姐好多野都唔食(例如羊喇),要好小心地平衡個莱單。

主菜:
1. Mussaka Veg $145 - 依個係素,d菜好味,薯塊,茄子等。跟飯
2. Mussaka lamb $145 - 依個係加多羊肉,d菜好味 跟飯(厨師推介)
3。Gambari Firik $180 - 釀春鷄(釀枣子,提子,乾果等)無骨幾好味
4. Mashwiaat $200 - 即係什扒,有羊扒,羊捲,串燒鷄肉,牛肉(奇硬)
5。Firahk Zaatar $150 - 烤全鷄,有洋葱等,無骨幾好味。
6. Kosa Mahshiya $150 - Zucchini(翠肉瓜)釀碎牛肉,乾果乳酪,跟飯。幾好味。

*** 跟飯有不同的米,有跟紅米,有跟混了薏米,有跟香米。但己記不起來誰配誰,但幾特别,好味。


甜品
1。Shoukolata $35 - 焗朱古力漿,似心太軟。香濃。
2。Helue Al Sham $50 - 雜錦中東甜品碟,有椰撻味餅仔,核桃果仁味餅仔, 加奶油。食落似中國舊式餅食。

不唔係有肚皮舞表演咩?答案系無既!係到聚會都好自由自在,舒服。轉眼都十點幾,客人漸少了。又是散會時間。埋單連加一,$2096. 每人$220 喇。

For some odd reasons, I am having craving for Middle Eastern cuisine recently. This time the destination was Habibi Restaurant @ SoHo. (My camera lens got all fogged up so the front door picture was not so clear. I will try to go take another one later. ) The decor was very traditional while the ambiance was dim and soft with some Middle Eastern music was playing in the background. During the weekend, there are dance shows but i could not wait that long to have some middle eastern food. Usually at this point of the review, I would go on and talk about the food items and etc, but this time I can't control myself but to talk about the service. First of all, services was not bad or un-caring, it was the fact that during the 3 hours we were there, different staff came over and asked us "is this dish finished?" for more than 6 times. Basically whenever we put down our forks and knifes to talk or to wipe our mouths, someone would come over and ask that question even though there were plenty of food left in the dish and have already informed them repeatedly that we were still eating. If there were a long line up then I would understand the rush but that was not the case. I can only say that the staff were over-caring and over attentive to the point of being a little annoying and unprofessional.

(1) Hummos Harissa
(chickpeas!!) A must order for those into chickpeas. It was tasty and rich in flavor with various herbs flavors which I am still learning to identify. It came with three different kinds pita breads and I was so tempted to order extra pita bread to make sure none of the hummos would go to waste! Due to my love for hummos, my review on this would be biased for sure so I will leave it at that and let you try it for yourself. If you only want hummos, you can try getting that at Habibi Cafe next door which is more of a casual hangout joint.

(2) Wara Inab
(Vine leaves stuffed with an aromatic mix of rice) It looked very different from the pictures on the menu but isn't that true for many things as well? The tomato sauce was very good but the actual item was rather interesting. Somehow I felt that I was eating stuffed lotus leaves and not really knowing what was inside. It was very "herb-y" with strong herb flavors but I was not sure where were the aromatic mix of rice. I simply could not identify or feel with my tongue the texture of rice within the stuffed vine leaves. There were something slightly crisp inside but due to the dim environment, I really could not tell.

(3) Falafel
(Crispy fried cakes of broad beans and fresh herbs) This dish I liked very much. It was rich in herb flavors and the sauce that came with it was a terrific match. Apparently this is a very common and popular dish. It can be prepared in different shapes such as sphere like a ball or in a checker shape. I liked it and certainly a thumbs up in my opinion.

(4) Firahk Zaatar
(marinated whole chicken marinated and grilled) When it was served, I asked myself: where was the rest of the WHOLE chicken? The menu did not mention anything about the chicken being a baby chicken or another other words that translate to "small" or "tiny", but the serving does not look like a WHOLE chicken even when de-boned. Anyhow, it tasted just like any other roasted chicken you find at other places in my opinion, the only difference was that it came in with some extra herbs on the surface. It was a bit dry as well. A disappointing dish indeed. Got tricked by the little cute "Chef's Hat" printed beside the name of the dish on the menu.

(5) Samak Sayadiyi
(Fresh Sea bass with tomato, bell peppers and red onion) My friend insisted to order this seafood dish and I was glad that she did because it was very tasty indeed. The tomato sauce was again very good and the fish itself well prepared. I tasted even better when you eat the fish together with spoonful of tomato sauce.

(6) Kosa Mahshiya
(Zucchini stuffed with seasoned minced beef and pine nuts in yogurt sauce) One of the best dishes we ordered. The yogurt sauce was great and not only did I mixed them with the rice, I basically cleared all the sauce like drinking soup. The flavors of the minced beef and pine nuts went extremely well with the zucchini. The same applied to the texture as well because the ingredients were all stuffed inside and one can enjoy the combined textures in every single bite. Did I mention the yogurt sauce was great !? Thumbs up !

Likes:

* decor and ambiance
* Kosa Mahshiya - Wonderful sauce and stuffed zucchini
* Falafel

Dislikes:

* Slightly annoying service (frequent and repeated asking of whether we were done)
* Firahk Zaatar - too dry and tasted just like any roasted chicken you can find everywhere.

For the cold mezze, we tried Babaganough (roasted eggpant) and it was fresh but not really special.Regarding the entrees, Kofta al gabal (lamb with tomato sause) was delicous during serving with pita bread And the recommendations of openrice's users were great including Shish tawouk (grilled chicken), Kofta (grilled lamb) and particularly the Baked seabass!! And please be reminded that most entrees were served with rice.Desserts were quite impressed by Hellue al sham (assorted dessert) and Dark

For the cold mezze, we tried Babaganough (roasted eggpant) and it was fresh but not really special.

Regarding the entrees, Kofta al gabal (lamb with tomato sause) was delicous during serving with pita bread
And the recommendations of openrice's users were great including Shish tawouk (grilled chicken), Kofta (grilled lamb) and particularly the Baked seabass!! And please be reminded that most entrees were served with rice.

Desserts were quite impressed by Hellue al sham (assorted dessert) and Dark chocolate mousse.

For the drinks, iced mint tea and hot mint tea are smiliar items. But the hot one is too heavy on the herbal favor.

Umum.. the food was nice although egyptian cuisine is rare. It was really an authentic and comfortable restaurant. And a local song was played throughout the meal and we heard that "habibi habibi......."

17 April,2009想試食埃及菜好耐了,終於有時間黎試試...早一日已訂左枱...環境好暗,入到去問我地坐邊邊,我們選擇了矮枱那邊,是一個佈置比較好既area..由於之前上左openrice睇過d食評,得知係隔離個間到個menu係有中文的,所以我們都拎了一份...不過,個張既menu同佢比我地的出入好大下...我們望左好耐,最後都係叫左個識中文既waiter黎介紹下,易明d嘛..[***得一個識講廣東話的].最後點了兩個前菜,四個main dish....雞牛羊魚咩都有....d野食份量不太大,其實樣樣野食個樣都好似差不多.....可能太暗吧...= ="前菜: 一個係羊製既肉丸---一咬落去覺得好臭....哈哈~太so啦...另一個係薄餅+配料...我個人比較中意食薄餅+配料呢個....比較正常吧...個seabass 真係好好食...都有4大塊既,d汁都好正,用黎撈隔離堆飯一流!!羊架...唔係好食羊既我,都覺得ok好味,不太so,可能有汁既關係吧,唔知咩汁黎...個雜錦併盤: 有個細羊架,有兩串羊肉---不得不提,呢兩串野都唔知咩黎,乾爭爭的,一d都唔好食..>&#

想試食埃及菜好耐了,終於有時間黎試試...早一日已訂左枱...
環境好暗,入到去問我地坐邊邊,我們選擇了矮枱那邊,是一個佈置比較好既area..
由於之前上左openrice睇過d食評,得知係隔離個間到個menu係有中文的,所以我們都拎了一份...不過,個張既menu同佢比我地的出入好大下...
我們望左好耐,最後都係叫左個識中文既waiter黎介紹下,易明d嘛..[***得一個識講廣東話的].
最後點了兩個前菜,四個main dish....雞牛羊魚咩都有....
d野食份量不太大,其實樣樣野食個樣都好似差不多.....可能太暗吧...= ="
前菜: 一個係羊製既肉丸---一咬落去覺得好臭....哈哈~太so啦...另一個係薄餅+配料...我個人比較中意食薄餅+配料呢個....比較正常吧...
個seabass 真係好好食...都有4大塊既,d汁都好正,用黎撈隔離堆飯一流!!
羊架...唔係好食羊既我,都覺得ok好味,不太so,可能有汁既關係吧,唔知咩汁黎...
個雜錦併盤: 有個細羊架,有兩串羊肉---不得不提,呢兩串野都唔知咩黎,乾爭爭的,一d都唔好食..><, 烤雞就比較乾,而個串牛就簡直食唔到...吉都辛苦,何況咬...= ="
grill baby chicken: 有汁既關係,都算不錯,呢個不太乾吧...
基本上,所有食物都要加埋汁黎食吧.....唔知埃及d菜係咪咁呢?!

我們book今天食既唯一目的都係為左睇下9pm既belly dance,時間一到,音樂就轉...
扭黎扭去,佢會搵d食客出黎一齊跳舞的....都幾開心架...會跳兩首歌..跳左15mins到啦.

之前d食評話一個人300蚊到,但我地今次試食都係每人160蚊到...哈哈~
可以一試既,始終係比較偏既菜式吧...

三月十七日(星期二)*五百日紀念日*幸福快樂本想吃yorkshire pudding,但是full booking了,應該我太遲打去訂位吧,而且近排很hit!那麼,再search見到habibi,於是試試吧!因為之前每經過都說一定找天試試什麼叫埃及菜吧!!老公之前一日打去book還有位!準時12:45到達了!當初還怕不知道book的是cafe定restaurant,不過一看門口的黑板就知道了!因為只有一間有buffet的!$75不用加一!以buffet來說,算抵吃了!一入門,就見到裝潢都花了不少心機吧!!waiter熱情的款待我們,而waiter都大多是非本地人!!我們在了一個比較偏僻的位置,是一小個corner位,而且有兩張sofa!檯和sofa比較矮的!感覺很特別,一坐下仍然不停欣賞富有民族色彩的裝修!waiter已經在此時拿來了menu,加個main course都是加廿五元!即是100元buffet連main course和飲品!算抵吃老公先出去拿了小小食物!第一樣食物似curry chicken,這是Kofta Al Gabal 即是ground lamb minced wi

*五百日紀念日*幸福快樂

$75不用加一!以buffet來說,算抵吃了!

一入門,就見到裝潢都花了不少心機吧!!waiter熱情的款待我們,而waiter都大多是非本地人!!我們在了一個比較偏僻的位置,是一小個corner位,而且有兩張sofa!檯和sofa比較矮的!感覺很特別,一坐下仍然不停欣賞富有民族色彩的裝修!waiter已經在此時拿來了menu,加個main course都是加廿五元!即是100元buffet連main course和飲品!算抵吃

老公先出去拿了小小食物!第一樣食物似curry chicken,這是Kofta Al Gabal 即是ground lamb minced with rice,是羊肉!吃下去很羶呢!喜歡吃羊的朋友就是希望吃到很羶的羊肉吧!汁有點似curry,不過不辣的!是濃味!而且還有比得包,加上這些汁,感覺不錯,我們吃了兩塊都飽了點,難怪附近的一檯外籍人仕不用叫main course吧!我們又拿了是日甜品,是用了米再加上椰子汁,感覺似泰國甜品!


老公又拿了個湯是shurbit khurdir 即是fresh vegetable and pasta soup,又是很濃的!不似中式的湯!味道有點怪怪的,另一種豆湯都算不錯!吃過了這兩個菜都覺得埃及人也許是喜歡吃濃味的東西吧!吃過後有點口渴!入"鄉"隨俗吧!同時也試過falafelcrispy fried cake with broad beans and fresh herbs,見到cake字就有點想試試!小小的滿是黑芝麻!味道很豆味!有點硬,頗特別!還吃了grilled seasonal vegetable,都是濃味的青瓜!同時吃到連味蕾都分不清吃的是什麼食物,第一次食飯不知道吃的是什麼!很有趣!


主菜我們要了一個烤雞肉和咖哩鱸魚,魚的比較好吃!新鮮,很滑!而且有飯,是甜的,加了些豆!加上咖哩汁都不錯!老公的烤雞肉就比較燶,而且似沒有什麼調味料般,很難想像其他菜式都那麼濃味,反而這個就"原汁原味"!
而拌碟的飯也是與我的main course一樣,是加了豆的甜飯!感覺頗特別吧!如果雞烤得沒有這麼的燶,效果會更好,而且也會健康點!
餐飲方面是凍檸茶,甜度自己加,茶味都算濃

不得不提,我們聽到background music(雖然不知道唱的是什麼),但是間中聽到"habibi"..."habibi"....究竟habibi是什麼意思呢!於是老公就趁侍應送餐時問一問!他也很有耐心地介紹這是埃及語:my lover,my sweetheart的意思是女對男說的!!!...而男對女說my lover 是habibati,果然我們沒有選擇錯了這間餐廳,食物(雖不清楚成份,甚至食品)味道獨特,又是我們第一次吃埃及菜,而且餐廳的名字有意思..

老公,you are habibi!!!!

中午一點~要在中上環找吃~不用等不用趕不用逼~選擇少之有少~這一天就是遲了一點點~結果想去的去不了~也沒有理由等一個鐘了吧~最後就在數條橫街走來走去~大排檔又怕油煙~茄牛麵更加Misson Impossible~最後在約旦與埃及之間~因為見到Habibi有lunch buffet也只需要$75免加一..就痛心放棄了約旦ge靚姐姐侍應…不過buffet就只限Soup, Cold n Hot Mezzes, Dessert n Coffee/Tea~加份主菜加只不過$100就得~店內反而沒有太多上班一族~或許蘇豪以下用$75吃個lunch已是豪吃? 只要不用等就可以了~manager讓小比選擇大大卡座又或者是buffet檯後的小山洞般矮桌椅~既然來這裡~當然後者~!牆上有引人入勝的通花吊燈~也有抽水煙(?)的擺設~牆上的是埃及當地的風景~暗黃的燈光加上一室啡紅裝潢~身邊又多是小比怕怕的黑色多鬚人~真的覺得一門之隔的感覺截然不同其實環看身後的食物~也怕大比不夠吃~但最後我倆都只點了Mezzes buffet而沒有要主菜~Daily Soup有2款是為Shurbit Khnurdir同埋Shu

其實環看身後的食物~也怕大比不夠吃~但最後我倆都只點了Mezzes buffet而沒有要主菜~Daily Soup有2款是為Shurbit Khnurdir同埋Shurbit Ads~前者是雜菜湯而後者是lentils來的~好喜歡裡邊都會有少少pasta~比起平日在西餐廳喝到了會感到較為viscous一點~湯架旁邊的是一大碟青菜salad~青瓜小番茄生菜洋蔥為主~小比鐵定只吃它就已十個滿足了~中東沙漠地帶的人都愛以不同的豆豆和果實造成paste等重olive oil的醬汁去拌pita bread來吃~就如Labna就是Lusicous yogurt加入olive oil~而Jahini Sauce就是芝麻醬加入檸檬汁而成~兩種小比最愛的材料加在一起~檸檬汁是中和了芝麻裡大裡的油脂部份~吃起來當然與一般腸粉的麻醬是兩種享受~Babaganough(爸爸ga囉!haha) 也有芝麻醬的成份~但主導的是茄子配檸檬汁~老實說~說不定你是會邊吃邊分不清是那種~又或許會邊吃邊說都不像有那種那種材料啊~~~但多以味濃味重為主

至於Hot Mezzes就有較常聽到的Spinach Pie~但當然埃及人的正宗製法又不如一般吃到的英美式~這個baked phyllo裡有的是菠菜加feta cheese~中東以外的地方都會著重mozzarella和parmesan為主~但就常聽見羊奶芝士入饌於中東菜式當中~每次都以小批次製作~確保客人時刻吃到鬆脆的pie~另一款falafel就更加多機會聽到~以chickpeas和其他豆豆壓成碎蓉狀後分為小波炸成~是carbohydrate n protein的好朋友~飽肚得很~但香口mezze吃多幾個又覺得正常~haha~因為每樣東西都是少見多怪的小吃~

除了凍熱小吃~也有2盤是保溫中的熱盤~感覺上較為”主菜” 感覺~其中一盤為Kofta Al Gabal~是將免治羊肉和飯粒搓成圓條後在茄蓉中同煮~中式菜餚中沒有相似的菜式~羊肉條的口感是死實的~但臊味不重~或許因為加工過程中已有不少香料所致~最後的一個熱盤為雜菜鍋~以blasamic vinegar與basil pesto為調味~雜菜離不開carrots, green pea, potato等~小比就吃得過癮~但有”青豆恐懼症”的大比就差點不敢直視~hahaha~以上多款Mezzes其實都配以pita bread的~用餐巾蓋著的竹籃裡有原味也有香草的~把愛吃的東西釀進去包著吃~與淨吃又有著不同的感覺~個人愛包著吃~

Dessert of the Day就有兩款~大部份中東的甜點都以極極極甜見稱~這個已經算是mild~有點像淨吃雞尾包的椰蓉餡料的一件糕~另外也有酥皮裝的裡面夾有花生椰碎等~小比就打趣說這是酥皮版糖不甩~~每樣吃少少其實已經飽得很了~看來今天又得在1點吃埋晚餐quota~haha~餐飲都不馬虎的~只叫熱檸水也用碟另上5,6片檸檬和一整壺水~糖粒是原粒方狀的粗糖來的~咖啡就帶點苦澀~大比喝得自在~小比就彈開十丈遠~~總括來說~小比是頗滿意這餐異國風情的~縱使食物不著重賣相~甚至見有些鬼佬走進來看過之後就打退堂鼓~但吃過才知合自已口味乎~~這是一次很有趣的經歷~下次晚上再來看肚皮舞~!??

今日又係一行七人周圍食飯既日子~安排俾我地既位置好焗....叫左2 個熱盤5 個main course 同一支house wine~問個waitress 有咩提議~佢話其實樣樣都好特別....其實佢又講得幾岩~樣樣都值得一試~~而我就幾鍾意個mixed with grilled chicken, lamb,........有幾樣野既~幾好味~~服務呢~我覺得笑容欠奉la~~特別係個經理....anyway還可以既~今日係星期五~有肚皮舞睇~記得星期五六大約九點先有肚皮舞睇~~早d book ar~都幾難book~~~

同男朋友的紀念日, 他特地帶我去了這餐廳晚飯 一入餐廳已被暗暗的燈光吸引住, 一坐下店員就為我地點了爉燭. 連枱上的爉燭座都十分特別的. 男朋友之前都在開飯食評睇左資料, 所以已心中揀定菜式. 點了冷盤烤茄子伴鮮乳酪醬為頭盤, 主菜是烤雞和鮮鱸魚. 紐西蘭白酒一支.頭盤係一個醬用來點烤餅食的. 十分開胃. 兩款主菜都很好味, 特別是烤雞用左好多香料去醃, 所以十分野味. 鱸魚無骨, 啖啖肉, 個汁仲好鮮味添. 配埋白酒真是一流啊.食物質素很好, 環境浪漫, 坐位很舒適, 店員服務有點粗魯, 不知是否他們的特色 .....上菜時求其放低, 有時仲會推倒籃麵包, 但都沒有理會, 所以服務真的有待改善.

I have not visited this for ages and we have been back on a sunny Friday lunch time. The services was great and the buffet was value-for-money, costing only $80 something. The foods got good selection and we loved the meat balls very much. See photos attached. We were invited to visit again during Friday/Saturday night as there are belly dancers. I would go back
