Went there with an old schoolmate for lunch. It was only half-full by the time we arrived and the situation didn't get any better through the lunch hour. May be we should have taken the cue and left but we decided to give it another try.Set lunches are priced at about $100+ depending on what else is wanted - sirloin, dessert, etc. Nothing much to write home for as most lunches in the vicinity are similar. The bread was stale to say the least. They didn't even bother to heat it up before serving and the vinegar/olive oil bottle was half-empty, yes, the empty half was the vinegar! The soup of the day was Broccoli - room temperature and pretty tasteless.I had the lamb chop as the main dish. Same again, dry with no texture and again, pretty tasteless. The accompanying veggies were overcooked and devoid of any freshness and taste.Couldn't really tell whether the coffee was instant but like all else, it was of room temperature and tasteless. Both the waiter and the waitress serving us were apathetic and totally disinterested in the restaurant, in the food and in the customers.Another disappointing lunch in Central. Will this downward trend ever end?

Il Padrino is perched on the wrong alley of the area of Lan Kwai Fong: you would need a guide map to show you the way. But its less than prominent location means it is not crowded most of the time, and indeed is a nice little escape from the hectic streets in Central. Had sole fillet for lunch and the cooking was good. The bread and salad before was of good quality. The coffee that followed met my expectation, though it was still not anywhere close to being a true cup of Italian coffee. A pleasant thing is that the price is just HK$100 for a two-course lunch plus drinks. So it's a good price/quality ratio. Frankly nowhere in Hong Kong can I find coffee that tastes anywhere close to the one that I could sip at any respectable coffee bars in Italy, France, or Spain. Starbacks, Cova and the likes cannot meet the exacting demands of coffee aficionados. Coffee beans sold in HK are just too run of the mill. Also had dinner there. The atmosphere was warm as the restaurant is literally at the end of a cul-de-sac, close to a shabby and filthy public park and a shrine of an unknown god. Though it took a bit of time for the italian pizza to come, it tasted good. But then it didn't appear to look or taste like authentic Italian dishes (well, I know this is HK). My friend ordered some spagehetti and her comment was "above average". I did not expect more. After all, it is hard to find any true Italian restaurant in HK. Il Padrino has already done a respectable job of bringing me memories of the great time in Venice, Milan, Rome...

Last night, went there with 4 friends around 9, the place was not too busy. There were not enough staff to serve the whole floor at all. We ordered a bottle of wine, 2 starters, bruchetta and a crabmeat avocado salad. Omg, the salad was made of canned crabmeat minced and mixed with mayonnaise that makes it tasted like sugar, the 2 little shrimps on top were not fresh but frozen ones, and the portion was sooooo tiny, the size of half an avocado, yet it cost 120 or something. Then we it took 45 minutes for the 2 pizzas and a calzone to come, the pizza wer soo salty, the ingredients on my pizza, mushroom, artichoke and olives were not spread evenly, as there were 1 slice full of artichoke and nothing else. The other slices with a little bit here and there. #@%$^$Moreover, the waitresses kept ignoring us, took us yet AGES to get the bill. I will never go again.
