Came to La Maison Du Chocolat for another try of HOT CHOCOLATE - this time picked the purist's version without the added bourbon and vanilla. The CARACAS version is quite rich and thick, its actually very good. To others, it might be slightly too sweet but for me it was tolerable and the dark chocolate base from Venezuala is quite addictive and as much as I like Jean Paul Hevin's chocolates, this Hot Chocolate trumps the one I had recently over there! Although here, it has none of the fresh berries taste one normally associates with this type of terroir derived chocolate bean.

Its a bit 'toned down' to be more acceptable by everyone, similar to many of their chocolate pieces bar the more loyal to region Chocolate Bars - but at least its not diluted with too much milk like JPH.
However, I previously criticised the VERO Hot Chocolate version for being a tad too sour and fruity too. As always - there's OFTEN 2 SIDES TO A STORY, SOMETIMES.... MORE!

下午3時多, 是tea time的時候, 但我倆到達的時候店內空無一人, 而seat area也是空空如也... 當我倆把頭貼在廚窗在挑選食物時, 店員走了來為我們介紹當日的甜品, 所有有香蕉的product也要out, 所餘也無幾了, 於是我們就挑選了以下幾款:::

chocolate tart:: 是為本店之名物, 也是朱古力愛好者如MP等一定要試之物... 一整個TART的filling也是朱古力, 看到也口水直流呢... 然而, 我要求最高的是那撻皮, 這裡的做到香脆如曲奇般, 很叫人心動... 當然, 靈魂之一的朱古力餡也沒叫人失望啦, 那朱古力是香軟幼滑的, 是夾在黑和牛奶朱古力之間的甜度, 非常適中, 叫MP排, 他也以這個為全班第一名呢~

再者我們要了個一summer specialdome型蛋糕 (哈因我已忘了名字)::: 那是一個以朱古力cream做外層, 內餡有海線蛋糕, raspberry, 芒果,朱古力等等... 是有多種口感的一款蛋糕, 最叫人難忘的是那外層的朱古力cream, 很幼滑, 叫人一口又一口地吃, 口味是新鮮, 但非我倆所愛的類型... 但也只被MP排為全班第三/四名...

為食的我倆當然不會就止罷休啦, 繼續要了一個macaron... 因聽聞好比巴黎的macaron, $20一小舊的確是巴黎價錢呀, 但味道呢? 我倆小試了咖啡味.... 我認為, 那杏仁餅確是做得不錯, 夠薄夠脆, 但餡則太多了... 那是完完全全fill up整個macaron, 也太誇張了... 所以這是個disappointment

本來已經夠皮, 再叫兩杯飲品便完美的, 但當我倆走進去付款時, 卻給MP發現bouchee, 中文譯作金沙, 的大粒朱古力... 無疑, 那粒朱古力一大粒的, 內裡全是朱古力, 外層則是薄薄的花生碎粒, 跟金莎有少許相似.... 賣70元一粒, 也真不便宜, MP雙發光的, 所以也再加點了~ 店員細心地把它分開兩份, 但我也只能完成四分一, 因實在太filling呢... 全是香濃無比的朱古力, 實心的餡, 沒有半點欺場, 是值70一粒的~ 不過我預計到, 要是我把自己的一半吃完, 該會飽濟不堪, 所以為著肚皮著想, 讓給肚皮比我大得多的MP好了~

最後介紹的們的飲品, 我平實地要了一壺earl grey, 可助消濟, 是明智之選.... 而MP貫徹他的愛朱作風, 要了濃味的熱朱古力.... 這下子可不得了, 那杯根本就是朱古力漿! 我倆相信是完全沒糖, 奶, 水的一杯由完條黑朱古力bar溶化而成的飲品.... 看到也覺飽... 在多款的朱古力甜品之下, 我提議他帶走好了, 後來再自行加水, 喝了一整個下午, 多誇張! 所以我說, 要是有一天我不想吃午餐, 買一杯好了, 夠喝足一整個下午也不覺餓呢!

結束這個朱古力到訪之旅, 結果令人滿意, 這也是星級的享受, 只是, 要找個合適的對象才好, 因這樣chocolatey的東西也不是每個人也喜歡呢~

We always look forward to Friday because it is the start of the weekend but it is also only two days away from Monday, the start of the work week as well. I needed some smiles, something to cheer myself up on this Friday evening. We always look forward to Friday because it is the start of the weekend but it is also only two days away from Monday, the start of the work week as well. Maybe I am just being a bit too pessimistic sometimes that's why I needed chocolate to be more optimistic !!! When I passed by this place, it somehow reminded me of Jin's entry on NoKA Chocolates and it made me want to have some really nice chocolate while waiting for my friends to get off work. Therefore, I slowly walked into the House of Chocolate. Among the newly opened stores of this franchise, only this location and IFC's have drinks to serve as well as sitting area. The sitting area is under the escalator, close to the store and this little corner is actually a nice location because usually very few people would pass by this area.

(1) Hot Chocolate Caracas

It was a blend of full bodied cocoa. The hot chocolate was very rich but not too sweet and it was thick and silky smooth. Why is it thick? Simple: it is because this is NOT HOT MILK CHOCOLATE drink, it is plain and pure HOT CHOCOLATE for PURE ENJOYMENT. In my opinion, one small cup us good enough because it was pretty filling and satisfying at the same time. The thick texture may remind you of chocolate sauce but of good quality and HEY, I am not complaining at all, I was simply enjoying every last drop of the sinful hot chocolate!


(2) Maracuja Island

I forgot how it was described on the menu but to me it was as dome shaped chocolate mousse layered cake topped with banana and coconut, lime and passion fruit cream. It was rich and wonderful. Chocolate needs to be rich in taste in my opinion. The citrus flavor of the lime and passion fruit cream went well with the chocolate layers and provided a refreshing taste to it as well. The coconut provided a contrasting texture to the cake, the crunchy coconut together with the soft chocolate mousse were mouth watering indeed !

This apparatus below resemble the logo of this place and i checked it out to see what it is used for and called. Apparently, it is made of granite stone and it is called a Metate. The traditional process is to heat the Metate up with a small fire underneath and crush the cocoa beans into a paste with the large stick.

NOTE: they serve with a very nice and sturdy plastic tray (see picture) but it turns out they don't need it back!!! ... meaning not recyclable or there is no intention in doing so. Eco UN-friendly for sure. I had the urge to bring it home for my own use because it is better than throwing it away. However, it would be weird to carry the little tray around to go for drinks right? Therefore, I had to close my eyes and blindly throw the plastic tray into the garbage bin.

Likes:

* Hot Chocolate Caracas - the rich and thick pure melted hot chocolate, what's not to like about it?
* Maracuja Island - a wonderful combination of flavors and texture, although slightly too sweet in the center.

Dislikes:


* Still trying to think of one ... other than the fact that they are not as Environmental friendly with the plastic tray as I imagined.

This was my downstair's eatery, where I chatted with my boss, where my boss bought us the afternoon tea. I usually had coffee and Eclair ... Once she bought both the chocolate and caramel Eclair. Caramel was amazing! It must be sweet, yet it was less heavy than the chocolate. The chocolate was too intense and rich. Caramel was rich, yet it seemed the caramel sauce was better in intensity *hope you understand what I mean* The second time I had the caramel Eclair was that the inner caramel sauce kept splashing out whenever I bit, and jammed my Tiffany ring ...

The black coffee was not bad, yet the C-chain upstairs with a slightly cheaper price worths more.

Overall, it worths trying as they are truly fresh-made.

貴貴的100%可可朱古力,不會只是一味苦苦的味道,而是真的很濃很香的味道。雖然真的很貴,但辛苦工作後吃一格真的倍感快樂。不過這次我主要是推介這系列的朱力,通常到La Maison Du Chocolat 都是買其他朱古力的,很少客人買這款。但其實這款朱古力真的很純。你會感到甜,但不會因為太甜而令喉嚨辛苦。

而是真的很濃很香的味道。雖然真的很貴,但辛苦工作後吃一格真的倍感快樂。

不過這次我主要是推介這系列的朱力,
通常到La Maison Du Chocolat 都是買其他朱古力的,
很少客人買這款。但其實這款朱古力真的很純。

VERO既熱朱古力只售$45, 無論味道定賣相都比La Maison好*

店員仲推介3款chocolate tasting, 係新返既summer collection,
我揀左一粒Ganache with saffron raspberry試*
dark choco好濃郁好滑, 帶點點桑莓果酸, 好好味, 但食唔出有saffron味

另外, 幾位店員都好nice, 好細心介紹甜品同埋朱古力;
La Maison門面極有貴氣, 但茶座就簡簡單單, 感覺同La Maison好分離,
雖然茶座就係La Maison對面, 但係俾一條大柱隔開左,
哈哈, 幾位人客係cova買完三文治同咖啡入左黎坐=V=

是次自己一丁人黎, 3樣都係濃濃既朱古力, 極飽滯!!
太蠢喇自己一個人黎...下次帶多個朋友黎試埋雪糕先得!!

Chocolate shops obviously aren't the 1st choice, when the throat has just recovered and fitness remains an unresolved matter, also I'm not a die-hard fan of La Maison's chocolates as its too sugary and lacking layering in its chocolates for my personal preferences. Its almost too Americanised somehow.

Despite having that thought crossing my mind, I've heard this new outlet now has a sit-in option just as the revised Debauve and Gallais store does. Here, they serve Nespresso Pod coffees, Teas, imported ice-creams and sorbet as well as 2 dark chocolate drink options with 1 lighter than the other and virtually the same as 2 of their dark solid chocolates on sale. These imported goods aren't available in other La Maison outlets as well as the upcoming new IFC shop. This appeal alone got me coming on the weekend in no time together with my mother before dinner, who'd just arrived back in the city.

Upon arrival, I was greeted in English by 2 lovely sales and I actually felt relieved to be informed that both hot chocolate drink reserves have been depleted, so that leaves me with an option of ice cream only in this intentional trip with intentional goals, without putting further strain on my throat yet still making myself happy lol.


Selecting from the sorbets/ice creams reminded me of the new McDonald's TV Ad in which the guy relies on a flip-of-the-coin to decide his final choice. Perhaps a new phenomenon brought about by Laughing Gor's influence haha.
Will I have the Framboise or the Chocolate with Tonka Bean or Vanilla? After much deliberation, ended up somehow with the CHOCOLAT AU SEL DE GUÉRANDE as I like salted caramel sweets and succumbed to the irrefutable attraction of having one of the so-called top 3 salts in the world in my ice cream.

The ice-cream was $56 from memory. It was barely salty with only 0.1% salt content but one could taste a bit of savouriness from its presence. I was told this would draw out the underlying flavour of the buttery caramel's characters - and it certainly performed as told. This wasn't the best salted caramel ice-cream I've had but its definitely up there. I just thought it had too much buttery and skim milk rather than a profound caramelly taste despite it being very 'thick' when melted. The texture however was amazingly smooth, it literally glides like molten lava.

Was also given a free tasting piece of dark chocolate coating with dark chocolate ganache and mint tea flavour. I understand that La Maison takes months/years to trial and improve each individual chocolate's taste before its released to the mass market. However just as my previous experience with this brand of chocolate and their macarons (spelt Macarons in this shop, Macaroons in other outlets. Strange) proved too cloying, I still found this dark chocolate a bit single dimensioned, even though the mint tea portion contribution made it interesting but not as good as Debailleul's but better than Jean Paul Hevin's.

I was told to to try their chocolate blocks next time instead, which all have funny unrecognisable names... Hopefully, that'll give me confidence again in parts of their reputable chocolate selections! For now, I await to try their hot chocolate drinks as well as coming back to eat the fantastic ice-creams!

Ice-Cream = low '5'
Overly Sweet Chocolates/Truffles/Macarons/Cakes in general, personally = high '3' to very low '4'

第一眼看到 La Maison 門面擺設的印象是頗佳的, 光猛的燈光, 簡單而直接的佈局, 相當吸引, 途人經過也會停下來看看。店內職員留意到外邊途人的好奇時, 亦會主動走出店外推介一番, 店員對其店的產品內容極為熟悉, 加上專業和親切的態度, 要客人再走進內看看也不是難事。

這家 La Maison 更是其首家設有茶座的分店, 於店外不遠處設有約二十個座位, 全自助形式, 顧客選購完後, 便可到這裡安坐和享受。

La Maison 出售的產品種類較其他對手為多, 除最基本的朱古力外, 它會像 Godiva 般出售雪糕 (售價 $57 一杯, 很昂貴耶!), 亦會像 Sift 般出售以朱古力為主的甜品, 更會像 Vero 般出售朱古力飲品。

是日朋友專程為了其名物 熱朱古力 而來。這裡的熱主古力分為較濃和較淡兩個版本, 很遺憾地, 當日較濃版本的熱朱古力售罄了, 我們只好退而其次, 購買較淡版本的熱主古力來品嚐。店員知道我們都是一夥兒來, 也很識趣地額外多送一小杯給我們, 並不介意提供多幾隻紙杯給我們, 值得加分。這個版本的熱朱古力, 對我這個連 Vero 的 75% 也喝不下的人來說, 絕對恰到好處, 濃度和甜味也得我心, 但奉勸一眾嗜朱古力的甜魔, 這個版本絕對滿足不到你, 要試的話便要選擇較濃的版本。

朱古力方面, 我們也買了一盒十粒裝的 Tasting Collection ($170) 來品嚐, 一共有五款口味, 包括 果仁﹑香橙等。自己拿了一片杏仁味來吃, 杏仁香味洋溢, 與不太甜的牛奶朱古力混合一起, 吃了絕對令人感到開心。


另外﹐店方還會提供免費的朱古力, 給”有心”的客人品嚐。試食的貨色與放在專櫃中出售的無異, 價值 $20-30 一粒。我們數人亦不客氣地每一試吃了一粒, 我的選擇是帶有紅莓酒味的 Ganache, 咬一口是有外脆內軟的感覺, 內層柔軟的朱古力, 果香和酒香非常。

自問對朱古力沒甚研究, 但至少 La Maison 的朱古力也合我心意, 期望下次到來品嚐 $57 的名貴雪糕~
