Having been a fan of Harlan Goldstein's Gold and Striphouse, I was looking forward to trying the food at Penthouse, his latest flagship restaurant in Midtown Plaza, CWB. I wasn't disappointed! The restaurant is bright, spacious and boasts great harbour views from its floor to ceiling windows. Penthouse's set lunch includes a main, unlimited helpings of antipasti and dessert items from the "5-metre long "HG" Table", and coffee or tea. All for 248 HKD (there's a 128 HKD add on for the hanger steak
The restaurant is bright, spacious and boasts great harbour views from its floor to ceiling windows. Penthouse's set lunch includes a main, unlimited helpings of antipasti and dessert items from the "5-metre long "HG" Table", and coffee or tea. All for 248 HKD (there's a 128 HKD add on for the hanger steak - more on that below.) The antipasti buffet had a small but good selection of chartecurie, fresh salads and other nibbles, such as a lovely tomato bruschetta. I found the 24 month aged parma ham lacking in flavour, but was happy with other items like the roast vegetable salad and smoked duck breast salad. I opted for the "Spanish Josper" Grilled U.S. "Brandt's Family" Choice Hanger Steak (8 oz) despite the additional cost of 128 HKD. I requested for my steak to be done medium rare, and it came just right with a warm, red centre. It was incredibly succulent and tender, and the meat had retained all of its natural juices. The steak was served with a side of roasted garlic which complemented the meat. The horse radish creme fraiche sauce tasted like diluted sour cream and was somewhat cold. I found that I enjoyed the steak without it. Dessert was a delectable array of bite-sized cakes and mousses. Of note were the sinfully rich dark chocolate-coated ganache lolly with a crisp chocolate base, and the light as air chiffon souffle cake.
Lunch came up to be around 420 HKD including service, which is a tad expensive for lunch in CWB, but I was happy with the food quality and the ambience of the restaurant.
All in all, a great lunch in a wonderful space where one feels elevated above the hustle and bustle of CWB. It's a quiet space for a business lunch or a tipple after work. I didn't check out the wine list or cocktail menu though but would return for a drink sometime!
