RECOMMENDED: A handful of Thais run this "hole in the wall" restaurant. Located in Central, restaurants here tend to be a bit higher in price but Tuk Tuk is a great value with reasonable prices.

Things can get a bit hectic during the busy hour and service is likely to suffer. Relax and you'll be fine.

The menu is extensive over 110 items on the list, at first I took this as a bad sign. What kitchen can crank out that many types of dishes? However, many of the dishes are somewhat similar.

This is my first visit here and I went in the early evening, still there was a decent crowd. But I was promptly seated and ordered two dishes to start. It appeared that most of the patrons were enjoying their food from what I could observe.

I had a classic Papaya green salad and I would say it was one of the best I've had. The dish screamed freshness and it was definitely spicy. I also had the black pepper shrimp which had a nice peppery taste amongst an assortment of vegetables.

Physically, this is a hole in the wall place, very casual and not a place for date night or a business meeting nor are you going to linger there half the night sipping drinks. You're going here for the food.

This is a return spot for me.

My husband and I consider ourselves to be "foodies" and we like to basically gorge ourselves on delicious food on our days off. We were actually headed to a different thai restaurant when some friends of ours insisted that we go to Tuk Tuk. We walk in and there are only a few other tables. We ordered: Fresh Spring Rolls, Tom Yum Kung, Phad Thai, A tofu and red chili and basil dish, and a seafood curry that I forget the name of now. It was so amazing we literally could not stop eating. We wanted to try a few thai classics because so many places make phad thai and tom yum kung - but so few places make it well.

The ingredients were fresh (likely because they are right next to the market), the food was spicy, sweet, savory and salty, and we loved it so much we went back the next day for lunch. I will definitely visit Tuk Tuk on the regular.

First off, reservations are a must. Lots of people who live around this area know of this place for its good and reasonably priced Thai food. First off, reservations are a must. Lots of people who live around this area know of this place for its good and reasonably priced Thai food. The waitresses and chefs are obviously Thai and so communication may be a little difficult, but still manageable.

We began dinner with two lime sodas ($28 ea) (my friend’s iced lemon tea was exchanged for a lime soda since it wasn’t your regular brewed tea with lemon, but Thai tea bags, which tasted quite weird if you’re new to it!). Our drinks were refreshing and needed for what was about to come!

After what seemed like ages, our starter of prawn and lemongrass salad ($65) arrived. It was a small plate which lacked vegetables – there were two strips of Chinese lettuce on the bottom, at most, and on top sat a few shrimps and chopped spring onions, shallots, chilli, lemongrass etc. The dressing was very Thai - sour and spicy. First two bites we both agreed it was yummy… after a few more bites our mouths started burning. Whilst the shrimps itself was mildly chilli, the other parts of the salad was dressed in so much chilli we couldn’t finish this tiny plate because of its spice levels. I asked for it to be less-spicy in the beginning but I guess the chef didn’t get our message. Ahhhh I was quite disappointed really because we were forced to waste a potentially good salad… If the menu had only listed it’s spice level we would’ve avoided this dish in the first place! It was so bad my lime soda was finished within seconds, and my mouth was still burning.

Next our pumpkin and seafood curry ($75) came with our place of rice ($10). We had asked to change it to a yellow curry as my friend D only likes yellow curries. After the salad, we had asked the waitress to tell the chef not to put any chillies in our curry. By the time it arrived the burning sensation from the spicy salad had disappeared (thank god) so we had our taste buds intact to taste this wonderful yellow curry. It was actually really mild and had a thick consistency. Inside were some fish fillets, shrimps, squid and imitation crab meat. It was served in a steamed whole baby pumpkin, which was quite thougtful since you were able to scrape the sides for some pumpkin meat. Some vegetables in the curry would’ve been better, but I guess they expect you to order vegetables as a separate dish. When we eyed around the other curries seemed to be served in really small bowls.

Portion sizes here are small – good for single diners, as you will be able to finish a single curry with rice, and also good for group dining because this allows you to order more to try and share! I wouldn’t suggest this place for large groups though – service is too slow and the restaurant is honestly quite cramped!

雞就一般, 唔算好有雞味, 亦唔係特別好食
本來以為佢d湯係冬陰公湯, 點知係普遍瓜湯, 雖然都好味, 但有少少失望
(原來係逢星期三、五先有冬陰公)
龍眼汁就ok啦, 甜甜地有幾粒龍眼肉, 算唔錯

不過下次就未必再去喇...
因為中途叫佢拎個調味盤黎, 竟然發現其中一個樽入面有隻昆蟲仔!

星期四晚上不算多人,大概八成滿座(多是外籍人士)。侍應懂廣東話,有問必答,態度有禮。樓下極力投訴,大概是因為不幸遇上peak hour而服務不夠所致吧?點了青木瓜沙律($43)、冬陰公(小)、焗海鮮南瓜盅($69)及泰式燒雞半隻($65)。- 木瓜沙律一般水準,越吃越辣,嘴巴也麻了!- 冬陰公(小)挺好,有三隻頗新鮮的蝦,酸度和辣度適中,香港人應可接受。- 焗海鮮南瓜盅就要推介了,半個南瓜挖空後放進海鮮curry再焗,味道偏甜,很香。由於是整個南瓜被放進焗爐,所以熱呼呼的,還有保溫作用呢。一邊吃海鮮邊挖南瓜肉吃,很滿足喔! - 燒雞也值得試,用了泰式香草醃雞再燒,香得不得了。這店用的雞體積較小,肉般一般。附有2款泰醬,吃起來很醒胃。提提大家:如想吃蟹或蝦等海鮮的話要先預訂較安全,否則就碰運氣了,因為他們不會存放太多海鮮在鋪頭。話說今晚本來想試泰式炒蟹,侍應二話不說就探頭到鋪外斜坡尾的街市看看,然後就抱歉說沒有貨.... 原來他們差不多是即叫即買材料的,你點蟹,他們就去買蟹。所以最佳方法是訂座時同時訂菜呢~總括,這是很不錯的泰菜選擇。這兒(openrice)負面的食評多是午餐,大家大可試

Story of really bad service....

Restaurant just kept getting more crowded. Waitresses have no concept of customer comfort, don't reject customers given that restaurant had reached full capacity...more tables set up, situated about 5 cm apart. Very rowdy, crowded and no privacy. Almost like a mass workers' canteen. Waitresses unable to handle all the customers, also get increasingly flustered and more disorganised.

Food....when finally came.....not worth even describing the details here! Obviously, the kitchen was unable to cope! A really sorry excuse for food!

Don't go! Be warned! Caveat emptor indeed....

看樓下以為有冬陰公飲﹐結果只得味精冬瓜湯。叫了lime juice﹐超甜﹐糖尿病人小心。沒有乾炒河﹐唯有叫濕炒﹐牛肉勁韌﹐汁多到好似湯﹐唯一好處是很多菜。48元吃這些﹐不值。

中環通常近街市的店子食lunch 都比較平, 今次來到此店吃.set lunch $48, 有青咖喱牛/豬/雞飯, 干炒河粉, 豬頸肉炒公仔麵等等.泰籍侍應, 不正宗的廣東話, 我想食物應該正宗掛...set lunch 有湯, 蓮藕湯, 蓮藕幾腍身, 湯都有煲過下, ok 喎.干炒雞河粉, 炒得乾身唔太油, 樣樣材料都有d, 芥蘭, 紅蘿蔔等, 吃下去有少少炸蒜頭的味道, 整體味道不錯.敗筆的是那杯凍檸茶, 以為是普通一杯港式凍飲, 那杯比想像中紅的紅茶, 茶味好古怪, 我都唔知係咩茶葉來, 我飲左少少就冇再飲.或者我唔識貨, 不過我都要收返個笑面先.

敗筆的是那杯凍檸茶, 以為是普通一杯港式凍飲, 那杯比想像中紅的紅茶, 茶味好古怪, 我都唔知係咩茶葉來, 我飲左少少就冇再飲.


或者我唔識貨, 不過我都要收返個笑面先.

見各位對這間餐廳好評如潮,咁啱約了班朋友夜晚gathering咁就去試吓啦. 因我們共10個人有2個要遲d到. 本想等齊人才落order, 就叫佢先比每人一杯水, 怎料佢話冇一杯杯的水(免費), 有的是一支支的礦泉水要收費,每支約hkd20/支(好細支),咁我地唸住叫其他飲品唸住會低d, 但因它的飲品選擇也不多,唸住要個大路d的棷青,居然冇,我朋友先叫了個菠蘿冰,棷子冰來試試冇嘜味,所以我地其他人只好叫lemon tea同beer.之後我地決定先叫兩碟小食, 炸蝦餅同炸春卷-- 幾好味. 但那位小姐<有d不滿>叫我地要一次過落order因厨房只有一隻鑊否則有牌等..... 我地話冇所謂因見佢鋪頭細細, 除我地的大枱其他只有幾張細枱.最後我地終於人齊落order叫了海鮮沙律-- 一般串燒(雞,豬) --- ok好味(因張枱太長叫佢比多碟醬汁都唔得妤唔色做)菠蘿炒飯-- ok??肉片炒河-- d粉好碎,嫲嫲青咖哩雞-- 冇嘜雞味,份量好少蝦醬通菜-- 好味清炒什菜-- o.k. 但份量太少當我地差不多吃完, 餘下只有菠蘿炒飯及菜佢地二話不說就來收我地所有的用具, 我地當然

蝦醬通菜-- 好味
清炒什菜-- o.k. 但份量太少

當我地差不多吃完, 餘下只有菠蘿炒飯及菜佢地二話不說就來收我地所有的用具, 我地當然不甘因仲有野食嗎. 所以我地叫佢比個一套餐具叫我地其中一個朋友食埋佢就算吧.

最後個侍應又問我地要唔要甜品, 我地問有嘜呀? 佢話只有芒果黑粫米. 真係冇得頂. 睇怕都冇下次再來幇襯.
