It had been ages since my last visit to 今鮨! I guess it had been over 1 year ago? It was an impromptu lunch appointment and we managed to book a table for 2 in the same morning! But of course no more sushi bar seats available. We ordered the Sushi Ima Omakase Course at $980+10% which consisted of 5 types of sashimi, fish tempura, 7 pieces of sushi, salad, steamed egg custard, miso soup and coffee/ice cream. A salad included in the set was served to us very soon. It consisted of some greens with some cucumber and tomato. It was topped by some yuzu. Pretty standard.

柚子蟹肉茶碗蒸

A steamed egg custard was also included in the set. It was 柚子蟹肉茶碗蒸 and was presented in a nice small bowl as usual. The egg was smooth. You could see there were some crab meat and yuzu on the surface. It seemed that this steamed egg custard had never changed for so many years. No surprise.

This was the first time I ate 鱈魚子 (on the top left hand corner of the photo) and it was recommended that we eat it together with the yuzu vinegar. Unfortunately it was a bit tasteless. Other sashimi were of medium to good quality which should be the case given the price. They included 1 shrimp, 1 red tuna, 1 tuna belly, 2 鰤魚, 1 赤貝 and 2 white 貝 which I couldn't remember the name.

Their sliced pickled gingers were pretty good. Very thinly sliced, crispy and sweet.

深海池魚, 金目鯛 and 沙鰈魚

Then it came 3 types of sushi namely from the left 深海池魚, 金目鯛 with 紅心蘿蔔蓉 and 沙鰈魚 with 黑魚籽. The black caviar was always a good companion with the sashimi as it helped bring the taste of the 沙鰈魚 which was fresh. 
Tempura 沙椎鱼

The next dish was tempura! Tempura 沙椎鱼 and 紫蘇葉, with 楊梅 on the side. The fish was a bit tasteless. Nothing comparable with those at top-notch tempura bars. That said, maybe it was not a fair comparison.

Then there were another  3 types of sushi, eating from the right 馬糞海膽, 安康魚肝 and 秋刀魚. The quality of the sea urchin was high,  as it was creamy and the quantity was generous. The 安康魚肝 was of medium liver taste, only recommended for people who can eat it. Honestly, I hadn't expected 秋刀魚 from this expensive set but maybe it was in season? Although it was sashimi, there was really nothing special.

The final piece of sushi was 吞拿魚腦天 (from the head) and obviously the fat portion was high and very well spread.

There was nothing special with the miso soup. There was basically no ingredients except for 3 small pieces of tofu on the surface.

Pistachio Ice cream

The set ended by coffee or ice cream and I picked pistachio ice cream. It seemed to be Dreyer's but not house made. 

The bad thing of not sitting at the sushi bar was that the sushi came together but not one by one. So that the quality was really not as good. At such a price of $980+10%, I had really expected more. There was little surprise from the set.  Maybe next time should stick to the cheaper sets. Anyway, I would still give an OK rating.
