210924 Korean Set Dinner We came as a group of 7 to have KBBQ but then half of us wanted to eat from the set menu instead… We asked the staff if one table could eat the AYCE bbq and the other table order sets and originally, they said yes. But then, another staff came and said we would have to sit in separate seating areas and since we came to celebrate as a family, we decided to all eat sets. I ordered the Ginseng Chicken Soup as I am a fan of them and would always eat them. — 🐓 — 人蔘雞湯 Ginseng

The chicken is also served as half and is much more mature than the other samgyetang’s chicken I’ve had so the meat should naturally be more firm. The chicken size is reasonable but the ttukbaegi they put it in is very big so it may look small. They also give you a small plate of seasoned salt for the chicken which is rare but very much needed.
The breast was entirely intact to the bone which is very rare in samgyetang. The meat was tough but still edible as I’m comparing this to very soft and flaky samgyetang I’ve had. If you eat the meat without expecting soft samgyetang meat, then it is not bad. The taste is very mild and definitely needs the salt they also provide or kimchi to actually give it taste. Eating it with the salt improves the taste by miles as it does with all things but never put too much as it would ruin your palate.
The chicken leg is tender and soft but. I mean, it would be tender and soft even if you dry grill it for 1 hour 😂. The meat is still not even close to flakiness as other samgyetang’s chicken breast as well. But at least it’s tender 🤷♀️. I enjoyed eating the drumstick and drumette and their respective cartilages at the end of the bone which was crunchy and soft. I pulled apart the meat with my spoon and chopsticks with a bit of force.
I somehow couldn’t find the chicken wing 😂🤨, but the wing tip fell apart the bone with ease and was quite delicious as there is a lot of chicken skin (fat) on it.
The filling consisted of glutinous rice, ginseng and garlic. That’s it. No jujube, ginkgo or chestnuts 😐. Albeit, the ginseng is big in size but provides no flavor at all. The garlic is at least big in size and offered a mild spice to the rice. The glutinous rice was quite small in volume but it is definitely not needed as the rice provided is very sufficient.
The soup is extremely dull and flavorless. My first sip of the soup only reminded me of congee. The rice inside the chicken provided more flavor than the actual chicken 😂. There is also no chicken or ginseng flavor in the soup as well 😐. The skin was also not yellow and glistening so that removed the chicken flavor which is very disappointing as this is a ginseng chicken soup…

Overall, this restaurant is definitely not an authentic Korean restaurant. I don’t recommend coming here for authentic Korean foods but if you have low expectations then it would be fine as their prices are very reasonable as well.
I would recommend this dish if they said it was yeonggye baeksuk (Korean chicken soup) instead 😊.
