Feather and Bone is a grocery store located in Central that focuses on imported products. I often like to walk in there and buy a few things every so often. Recently, they opened a shop in Happy Valley. As I live in this area, I was pretty excited. Not that I don't already have a lot of great grocery stores and small shops selling quality import products in this area but I'm always open to one more so there's a little competition to lower costs.Unlike their branch in Central, this one has a rest
Unlike their branch in Central, this one has a restaurant in the back. Walk behind the butcher and ta-dah! Resturant!
I decided to try it out one day for lunch as I had woken up late and just wanted a late lunch. When I arrived, it was a bit confusing. There was no one to greet you, so I asked. Someone in the open kitchen just said to sit yourself down and someone will serve you. They have outdoor seating as well as indoor seating.
Menu is the placemat. However, I noticed someone else holding an actual menu so I asked for that. But the staff told me that there was no other menu but what was on my placemat. Um..ok. But I saw the table next to me offered a holding menu?
ANYWAYS...the menu is in English only. It appears everyone speaks English only. I noticed no Chinese speaking staff. The only thing that popped out of me on the menu was the butcher's choice. Here you can order whatever is at the butcher and how you want it done and they'll cook it for you. Interesting. But I was not into a steak for lunch so I had eggs. Coffee was a latte ($30). It was seriously not too good. It was far too milky and not enough coffee. I ordered the Petra ($88). A scrambled egg, jacket potato, salad and butcher's sausage. The good was the sausage. Really excellent and grilled perfectly. The scrambled eggs were a bit on the watery side but it was ok. The salad was ok with a light dressing. But the jacket potato was cold. It was stone cold and layered with cold sour cream. Why was the potato cold? Cold potatoes are something I shudder at as it tastes starchy and I hate starchy food. For a neighbourhood eatery, I would probably return if I'm too lazy to go farther than down the street. But I wouldn't come here purposely for a meal with friends. The food was ok. It wasn't great. For this price, I could have gotten much better. The service was a miss at the start. But then one waitress was super friendly and made it better. If you are hoping for a neighbourhood eatery with a neighbourhood shop, please the people that live here. Don't make it unwelcoming. See someone enter your store. Say hi. See someone enter your restaurant. Don't ignore them until they ask and then just say sit down. Happy Valley is a small residential area and this shop has obviously opened here in hopes of a certain clientbase. Don't piss them off as they will move on.
