Picked this restaurant given its convenient location and the branch at the Fringe was good. Booked through WhatsApp.
Upon arrival, was informed by Banker that booking was nowhere to be found.
Seated in the bar area upstairs.
Banker was a bit annoyed, but a glance at the miniature tables and chairs in the dining room downstairs reassured me that we wouldn’t be missing much.
Didn’t like the Set menus.
Poor internet connection. Or maybe it was sth wrong with the 1010 network.
Decided to go a la carte.
Banker commented that it was ridiculous that we had to order in English, in a Chinese restaurant, to a Chinese looking person. I didn’t mind, as long as no one messed up my order.
This is what we had.
Pan-fried Turnip Cake with XO Sauce, sprinkled with bonito flakes. Turnip tasted good.
Prawn Toast.
Initially ordered Sautéed Chicken with Dried Onion and Black Bean in Clay Pot plus 2 bowls of rice. It was coming close to 2pm and Banker decided to chase when a server eventually appeared up the stairs. Server went to check and came back with the unfortunate news that clay pot chicken was a disaster and requested that we try something else. Banker asked server whether we would be waiting around till 2:30 if we hadn’t raised the issue. Server seemed apologetic and agreed to comp our dessert.
Ordered the Fried Noodles with Spare Ribs Pork Slices. Which was watery and mediocre at best.
Dessert came- only 1 serving of Chilled Mango Pomelo Sago. Maybe I didn’t deserve any cos I didn’t kick a fuss.
Anyway, tried a spoonful and was glad I wasn’t given any. Had to wash the artificial sweetness away with a mouthful of tea, which server was kind enough to refill.
Asked for the bill, to see that we were actually charged for the “complimentary” dessert. I just cracked up laughing.
Well, not so funny anymore when server returned with the credit card receipt but no credit card. Server insisted that the card was in the folder, but obviously it wasn’t. Unless we were getting a complimentary magic trick for our troubles. After some anxious moments, server returned with Banker’s credit card.
In summary: a farce. Badly executed, badly run, badly managed. More leeway would be given to an independent establishment in its soft opening stage. However, Nove is part of Bombana’s Octavium Group and the grand opening was more than 3 months ago. One really would expect more from Mr.⭐️⭐️⭐️Bombana. Wouldn’t you?
