Considering this is near my house I can't believe I've never noticed it, I have a mental map of HK's vegetarian restaurants in my head and this one was missing. Anyway, after noticing it two days ago I decided to come here for my Tuesday dinner. I arrived at the restaurant sometime between 7 and 7.30 and although the place was busy I was seated immediately on a table with another lady who was busy eating noodles. I arrived at the restaurant sometime between 7 and 7.30 and although the place was busy I was seated immediately on a table with another lady who was busy eating noodles. I had already chosen what I wanted so I ordered straight away, rice with satay 'beef' and cabbage stir-fried with ginger.
The rice and satay beef came straight away. The 'beef' is actually squares of tofu protein. There were also some greens and sweetcorn on the plate. The satay sauce had a good, savoury flavour and I liked how it flavoured the rice. Actually this dish was filling enough on its own.
The cabbage came a bit later. I had ordered it partly because I have been craving large portions of vegetables and partly because I miss the cabbage and ginger combo. I was not disappointed by the portion! For just one it was really big. There was some grated carrot and mushroom mixed in as well as the ginger and a few cut up pieces of tofu puff. This dish was an acceptable cabbage dish, nothing special but exactly what I wanted and expected.
The small restaurant was constantly busy the whole time I was there, tables were cleared and new customers filled them as soon as they were empty. The only time my table wasn't fully occupied one of the waiters sat down to eat her noodles opposite me and gave me a friendly smile. In fact I got a friendly smile from the guy I paid just before leaving too.
I didn't quite finish the two dishes, next time I know that a rice dish or noodles is enough for my belly. I would quite like to try several of the different options though, the noodles in a soya milk broth looks interesting.
