Kobe Beef Meat Pie is one new place. A while ago, they were just a pop up during one of Sogo's food events. It was offered by Juchheim and I had tried both the meat pie and the apple pie. No one tried them during the pop up event. But now?
Now they have actual shop space and this place is ALWAYS sold out. But their shop not only sells meat pies and apple pies but other pies like sweet potato. And everything is always sold out.
Boyfriend and I walked by and they suddenly came out with a tray of small meat pies. And like that we were ushered into the crowd like cattle.
A small pie is $21. It's a pretty small portion. I think we each had one bite each and it was done. Now, when it was a pop up, I didn't think it was that great. I think I even wrote a review about it somewhere. But I thought to myself, would an actual shop where they make the pies on site be better? My thoughts? No. It's not better. The pie crust was flakey and buttery. But the meat filling? Serious waste of kobe beef (if they use it at all as you really can't tell). Perhaps I'm used to eating British meat pies, with all the juicy beef with the stock all enveloped in a pie crust. Or even a really delicious Cornish pasty with the juicy meat. But the beef in this pie was dry. There wasn't any juices flowing out. Just dry. There was also a lot of pepper added.
If you're thinking to queue up for hours for this, crying that everything is sold out, my suggestion is don't. Don't bother. Wait until the hype dies down. Look at Bake tart next door. No one in line. Plenty of tarts. This beef pie place is not worth it.
