This original joint is constantly busy; service is therefore very quick and efficient. It took them less than 2 minutes to assemble my order. Staff were polite (albeit quite monotonous-sounding!) and helpful as well - although they don't provide takeout menus, they did give me their order slip which has their phone number and address.

Presentation was better than average, with a neat row of char siu parallel to another row of pork ribs on a bed of white medium-grain rice; traces of soy sauce can be found towards the bottom.

Char siu: The sauce was the best part of the char siu, which was actually very subtle and had the right amount of sweetness to it. The marinade is probably quite thin, as the meat was not drenched and syrupy. Also impressive is the cooking time and level of heat used to cook - it was perfected that the meat was very tender on the inside, and precisely charred on the outside giving a little smokiness to the meat. HOWEVER, I made a mistake by forgetting to ask for specific "half fatty and half lean" cuts; the meat was extremely fatty - while it was tender, the grease factor loses points.

Roast pork ribs:
(Not usually found even at many roast restaurants) Very juicy - unlike the char siu, the meat was tender without being marbled with fat. connecting bones and tendons make the meat more flavorful as the bone marrow absorbs more flavor - I advocate sucking on bony parts (although it's not aesthetically pleasing!) for full enjoyment of textures, smells and full taste. The marinade used tastes different than that of the char siu - less sweet, even more faint. I dipped it in some Chinese mustard sauce (Lee Kum Kee brand) for a little kick.

Real satisfactory meat for a quick bite, and the price is right! $22 for a single meat or double assortment with rice all day; Add $6 for a bowl of their house soup. Great location too - you can park right in front of the restaurant on both sides of the street. Note that it closes on Sundays.
