After an afternoon of walking around The Mills, we decided to walk over to the nearby mall for dinner but it started to rain very hard. Boyfriend is never prepared and didn't have an umbrella. Knowing we couldn't make it there without getting both us wet, we spotted Bench Cafe. It was open and we decided to just eat here for dinner and wait for the rain to end.The place was spacious. The place was spacious. Not very big but seating was not cramped. They had few seats facing the window along with various tables. The kitchen is open style and on one side.
Menu is in English and Chinese. There is no 10% service charge. They have a very concise menu with the usual cafe style food: pastas, all day breakfast. They also have a variety of coffee and other drinks and desserts. You order at the front and they bring the food to you.
As it was a coffee shop, I decided to try out their coffee. And my coffee of choice is always a Latte ($40). The latte art was beautiful. The coffee was not too strong and had a nice nutty taste. Temperature was just right.
Boyfriend had the Ice Mocha ($45). A drizzle of chocolate sauce was squeezed on the side. It wasn't too sweet and the espresso still shone through the chocolate.
I ordered the Pepperoni Naporitan Linguine ($78) and didn't expect the portion size to be so big! The pasta was al dente. The sauce was rich and complimented with the spicy pepperoni slices. There were slices of sweet cherry tomatoes and some fresh herbs.
Boyfriend ordered the Truffle Bechamel Lasagna ($98). It came with a side of salad and grilled cherry tomatoes. This smelled wonderfully cheesy. There was a generous spread of truffle paste and lots and lots of crab meat between the layers of pasta. The bechamel sauce was super rich.
It was still raining so we shared a dessert of Egg Custard ($58). It was topped with a cherry and slices of strawberries with a bit of whipped cream. The custard was smooth and had a rich eggy vanilla taste. The carmelized sauce gave it that nice bitter sweetness that I love about this dessert.
Food was delicious and portion size was larger than expected. The coffee was good as well. A nice little find that I'd be back for.
