Found this eye-catching US style Japanese hand roll restaurant newly opened in Central. The idea sounds new so we came in here with expectations, but unfortunately we left with a bit of disappointment.The lunch set first came with the appetisers. The beef tempura gyoza is just simply, fried dumplings… With the sauce, it’s a bit too salty. Without the sauce, it’s tasteless. The karaage, taste slightly better than the dumplings, but still it’s just normal fried chicken.Next is the classic handroll

Next is the classic handroll - tuna and minced toro. They look cute. Can’t say they tastes excellent or with any difference with usual sushi rolls, but they are fresh definitely. And they probably are already the best dishes of the meal.

After that comes another ‘advanced’ handroll - crap meat and scallop. Sadly this really let me down because the taste is plain even though it contains more ingredients. I find the classic ones tastes even better.
Some food reviews say that it looks like omakase but it’s indeed far from it other than the way how the staff will place the dish one by one in front of you.
Another minor thing to mention is the seating (last photo). The entire bar table is in a wavy shape so you will never be sitting parallel to your friend next to you (if u get what I mean lol). The table is also quite narrow, together with the ‘slope’ formed because of the wave, you will never be sitting close to the table and therefore inconvenient while eating, as well as uncomfortable.
Talking about the service, don’t expect the sifu will talk to you like omakase. They are just there, not very friendly nor rude. Nothing to complain.
Having said all those, I love the new idea for which I haven’t seen it elsewhere. It may also just be my expectation that cause the disappointment.
