Yeah,another birthday another cake to try! To celebrate my aunt's birthday, my cousin chose this beautiful Purple yam cake from Cake's Secrets. Taste:Although the taste of yam wasn't very strong, you could taste a hint of it. The cake consisted layers of cream, purple yam filling and sponge with a biscuit bottom. The purple filling had a stringy texture, just like how yams are！ The sponge layer was light and fluffy;not dry or dense at all. As for the cream, it was light and not heavy. My favourite part of the cake was the biscuit bottom. It was crunchy and added a nice balance and texture to the whole cake. Overall, the cake wasn't overly sweet so it would be perfect for people who don't like cakes that are overly sweet,but enough to leave you wanting for more.
Environment+ cleanliness:The place was bright and clean. There was no doubt that they make their cakes in store because you could smell and feel an oven that Is in use, so it was a little hot inside, but since there is only one table in the store, most probably order the cakes to go so the warmth wouldn't really be an issue. It might even be perfect for winter- on cold days!
Worth my $$?:
The cake was $268,which is what most cakes are running at nowadays. We got 8 reasonable pieces out of this 1 pound cake. For the attractive appearance and deliciousness, I would say it was worth it. A cake like this would probably be over $300 at some other places.
Service:
I had called at shortly before 1 p.m to place the order and it was enough time for it to be picked up at 6p.m. The staff on the phone was friendly and cheerful. When my cousin and I went to pick up the cake, the staff was very thoughtful and asked us if we needed ice packs for the cake and a bag even though it was already in a box. Excellent service.
