Starving. Dinner in the private room, which was aptly named the “bowling room” cos of all the decorative pins stuck on one side of the walls.Stuffed myself with the 皮蛋 whilst waiting for the late ppl. Everyone has high expectations for the 燒鵝皇 (they said the chef was from YK). He came in to personally pour the sauce/grease over the goose.
I immediately asked for a bowl of 瀨粉。
Everybody was very polite, asking other ppl to dig in first. So I volunteered to take the 脾. Mmmmmm, not bad. Meat was tender and juicy, skin very crispy. Gotta say, sauce tasted very good.
瀨粉 came, in very tasteful broth.
Whilst I was busy enjoying my 燒鵝瀨, the other goose dishes came, being
燒鵝肝- in char Siu sauce, and
銀牙鵝腸- in soy sauce.
I’ve been banned from eating internal organs, so couldn’t comment.
However the other dishes were all such an underwhelming anticlimax-
脆皮燒腩仔- too thinly sliced and too fatty. Skin was crispy but not enough meat to go with it.
冬瓜盅- very 一般。冬瓜 felt old. There were a lot of goose meat inside, those were very hard and chewy.
筍殼班球- came with deep fried and normal fried. Normally I LOVE 筍殼, but didn’t like this one. Deep fried portion was a bit better, but I hated having to spit out all the bones. Fried portion just didn’t tasted fresh.
燒雞- meat tender but lacked 雞味
鵝油撈麵- considering I saved up my stomach quota for this, I was disappointed. Too salty. Not normally a fan of 鹼水麵,but the 鹼水 taste here was very strong. Preferred the 瀨粉
紅豆沙 as dessert, which was surprisingly good. 陳皮 (which I normally hated) was very fragrant.
Bill came up to ($850 pp). Not the greatest value for money, but private room...suen la.
In summary, would prob come back but only for the char Siu (which was EXCEPTIONAL) and the goose.
