To my surprise, the restaurant was still quite busy on a weekday after 2. It was a hot day so I opted for a BÒ KHO banh mi ($138) instead of pho. BÒ KHO is essentially a beef stew. When the dish arrived, I was a little startled. I thought it would be like a traditional banh mi with the ingredients “stuffed” inside a Vietnamese baguette. The 12-hour beef shank stew came in three large pieces which were super tender and meaty. The seasoning with lemongrass, star anise, cinnamon, etc. presented a nice aroma yet not overpowering. The bread was airy and a perfect match for the sauce. My only complaint was the carrots which needed a bit more cooking time.
If it wasn’t for the price tag, I would have gone back the next day.
