As I lives at Kwun Tong area, of course I have to come support this new restaurant. There are more & more restaurants/ cafes start their business in Kwun Tong area, since this district is under a lot of big changes! This kind of changes has started going toward the industrial buildings. There are still a lot more of this type of restaurants/ cafes to be discovered! So, I came here with a group of friends as the venue to celebrate one of our friend's birthday. When we arrived the outside of the building, I never thought the building is so close to the APM mall/ MTR station. The entrance of the building looks quite creepy! There are a big industrial old-style lift on the left side & a "normal" lift. Obviously we took the "normal" one to go up.
When we got off the lift at 5/F, there is a "Loft Kitchen" sign! It's not really that hard to find the way! Once we arrived the entrance of the restaurant, it's completely different world from the industrial environment outside. It's truly another hidden gems in this area! The space of restaurant is quite spacious. The indoor of the restaurant is separated from the slidable blackboard in the middle. There is a terrace overlooks the railway & Kwun Tong Road. But it seems not open to public when we were there.
The open kitchen is on the left side & there is a row of tables just across the kitchen. We were arranged to be seat at the table that can overlook the kitchen. However, the air-con seems a bit too cold above us. So, the waitress nicely arranged another table on the other side of the restaurant, which is behind the blackboard.
We found that the blackboard has some really nice drawing on it!!! Since there were 8 of us, we ordered 2 appetizers, 5 main courses & 2 desserts (from the a la carte menu) to share.
First of all, there were some raisin bread served with butter. The bread itself was alright, neither cold nor very hot. Appetizers: Mesclun Salad & Fried mazarella cheese
The mesclun salad was some salad green with orange segments with balsamic, yuzu & seasame dressing. It's a colorful, refreshing & tangy dish to start a meal.
The fried mazarella cheese was served together with a small bowl of tomato salsa. The taste was nice that it's cheesy & hot. However it's a bit underseason. I can say it was possibly the weirdest shape of food I can imagine. I was LOL when it was served up on the table. Main course: pasta & risotto We ordered 2 pasta dishes: Smoked salmon spaghetti with cream sauce (top dish in the picture) & Carbonara (middle dish in the picture).
The smoked salmon was presented as a flower shape on the spaghetti. The spaghetti was al dente, which was nice. Red & yellow capsicum added colors to the dish. Lots of Parmesan cheese was grated on to the pasta. Some friends though the cream sauce was a bit of too heavy. But I found it's just right! There was some herb scattered around the spaghetti.
The carbonara is a classic pasta dish that you can't get away with! Their carbonara was served with becon & an egg york in the middle of the dish. There was sufficient cream sauce to go with the pasta. Some thinly sliced cheese scattered on the pasta, which added some more flavors to the dish. The egg york made the sauce more creamier & easier to coat on the pasta.
Except the 2 pasta dishes, wild mushroom & black truffle risotto (bottom dish in the picture) was another main course we ordered. The risotto was cooked to perfection & not chalky at all! There were a few types of mushroom in the dish & sliced cheese on top of the risotto. It was well seasoned too!
Main course: Meat For the meat dishes, we ordered Mixed sausages platter & BBQ ribs.
The mixed sausages platter included different types of sausages with potato mesh & gravy. There were chicken, pork sausages as I recalled. This dish reminded me the "Bangers & mash" I ate at Caffe HABITU. But I just found it kind of weird with all asparagus sticking out.
The BBQ ribs was so tender & juicy!!! The meat just almost fell off when I cutted it. The potato pieces as a side dish was really nicely fried as well!! I can eat heaps of it! I was sucking my fingers when I was eating it!
Down to DESSERT!!! There are actually just 2 desserts to choose from the a la certe menu. So, we ordered both! The earl grey creme burlee has a crispy sugar top. The earl grey flavor was quite subtle. There was a cute small strawberry flower on top of the creme burlee. It's not too sweet that it's prefect to end a meal!
The 2nd dessert was the poached pear in red wine. The pear was poached to soft, not hard at all! The red wine flavor wasn't too outstanding though. It was paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. The ice cream melted quite fast, since the poached pear was hot.
I can say the earl grey creme burlee tasted better.
It was a wonderful night with friends!! Hopefully will come here again some other times!
