Torn for choices in the causeway bay area, I was wanting something which was western, slightly decadent, and with comfortable seating. Torn for choices in the causeway bay area, I was wanting something which was western, slightly decadent, and with comfortable seating. Preferably with the option to order champagne to wash down the previous week's miseries. i also wanted somewhere where the terre d'hermes I wore would stills smell like an overpriced perfume and not a cocktail of bacon grease and sandelwood when I finished dining. I wanted casual but slightly fancy brunch with prices that are accessible for us daily MTR users. The Ebb & Flow was a pleasant experience. The wonderful staff, excellent portions, spaced out seating was perfect. not only did I find what I was looking for to fill my ever-hungry gut, importantly, it hit the spot.
greeted at the door with an apology for not having many choice of tables since we did not book (but who does for a casual brunch) , we were shown to a small table sprouting up amongst low chairs with soft upholstery in a cozily lit corner. the menu was easy to understand, as breakfast came first in the list of goodies, and breakfast is what I came for and what I will conquer. Coming from the land that claims the invention of the fried "Breakfast" -english, there are a few things I stubbornly must have on my plate to mitigate the grumpiness that's behind every Brit. The sausage, the bacon, the egg, the tomato (no one actually knows why it's there) and of course baked beans. T'was delicious; there was considerable volume, little grease, bacon was the crispy type, eggs scrambled but with a Cantonese touch, the herbs and spices in the sausage were very good. We also ordered an egg's Benedict that was well made, with a good volume of flow from the egg yolk.
what had really topped up the whole experience and led me to write this appraisal is actually how much I liked the no-nonsense experience I had here. the food was good value for the money for the location, not to mention the comfort. the staff was efficient, professional, and kind. to top everything up, when I asked for coffee, our waiter did not follow up with "latte, flat white, flat black, long black, short white, machi-frappy-" made up Italians words. He took my order knowing exactly what I meant by coffee. and came back with a black coffee, steamed milk on the side; the roast was dark, smooth, and functional. the bill came to $400, worth every penny, People who know me, know that I fall into the Yorkshireman stereotype of "being tight with money", and still I left a well deserved tip.
