As soon as you step off the elevators at the 9/F of The Toy House building, you are greeted by a knight in shining armor; and as soon as you walk into Fandango, you are serenaded with live, romantic, acoustic music; and the heavenly scent of food.While ordering, the waiter recommended that we get a jug of Sangria. While ordering, the waiter recommended that we get a jug of Sangria. It was one of the best sangrias I've ever had. It was clean, crisp, and perfectly blended. Every sip fills your mouth with acidic wine and summery fruit essences. It was the perfect summer drink. We started dinner with delicious Bruschetta, where the chopped tomatoes were fresh and the bread was toasted to crispy perfection. Next came the tapas - stewed beef cheeks and stuffed squid. The beef cheeks were so succulent and oh so tender that they practically melt in the mouth. The stuffed squid were nicely done too - cooked well enough but not too much to make the squid tough and rubbery. The stuffing was something grainy (couscous, perhaps?) Whatever it was, it was deliciously good.
The salad was all right - fresh and enjoyable but there was nothing extravagant or extra special about it. The garlic shrimps were fantastic! This dish is served still sizzling on a hot plate. The shrimps were cooked to crunchy perfection and the heavy garlic scent it exudes does nothing but heightens the palate. We ordered two types of paella - the negro (black ink) and seafood. Both were wonderfully good. We had a jolly time laughing while eating the paella negro where every mouthful leaves you with black lips that would impress the most hard core punk/gothic/emo.
Dessert was chocolate lava cake and the Fandango tiramisu - the perfect way to cap off a wonderful dinner. Aside from the wonderful food that we had, I think the ambiance also played a big part on making it a memorable dinner. Throughout our meal, we were serenaded by three wonderful acoustic musicians (who were more than happy and obliging to play requests). And if you're up for it, you can even dance along to them.
