This congee and noodle cafe has a long history, with more than 60 years under its belt. It's been a while since we last came here and today we visited again to try the signature wanton and dumplings, to see whether the quality is still being maintained.The Wanton Noodle was quite nice, with fairly big wanton of good fillings of crunchy shrimp and pork, also of the right proportion. Ivy ordered the conch and dried oyster congee and I also sampled some of it. The conch is delicious but the dried oyster is of relatively poor quality, without much aromas and taste. The congee also is too watery and even though the serving is quite large, it is probably insufficient for most people as a meal.
We also ordered the dumplings to try to compare with the wantons. I would say they were equally good as the wantons and got the bamboo shoot to complement the pork and shrimp, making them even more crunchy. Personally I always prefer dumplings than wantons and it is of no exception in this case.
The deep fried fish ball was big, larger than a ping pong. But apart from the size this was quite a disappointment to me. When served there was a clear oily look, and with the oil dripping on the lettuce underneath it is definitely not appetizing. The taste itself was decent but overall still not something they should be recommending.
The quality of the blanched vegetable (choi sum) was also quite poor, with the vegetable quite bitter to the taste. And we specifically ordered to be oil-free it turned up still having it.With a cold lemon tea as well, the total bill was $183. Quite decent in the price, however I have to say overall it was still a bit deteriorated in terms of food quality. This is quite sad as nowadays good congee and noodle cafe is getting less and less in HK.
