I must confess, I am a Fish & Chips freak. I'm also famous for my homemade roast chicken. So when I heard of this brand new place called "Fish & Chicks", I had no choice but to go check it out!My partner and I arrived and were seated at the lovely little bench facing Victoria Harbour. My partner and I arrived and were seated at the lovely little bench facing Victoria Harbour. We ordered nice cold beers and had fun watching a guy tried to park his brand new Mini Cooper right in front of us. I say "tried", as he never succeeded. Half of his car was sticking out into the fortunately not so busy street after what seemed like 30 attempts. We drank and we wondered: How did he manage to get his license...

We ordered the beetroot & cream cheese salad and half a chicken. I then asked the staff which fish is local and fresh, it's Sunday and I certainly am NOT putting frozen tasteless fish into my mouth. He told me seabass is the one. He then apologized, saying that their chips (thick) was too popular and they have ran out. They only have fries (thin) left. I am glad that he told me this in advance, it prevented me to turn into the biggest bitch when I see thin fries with my fish.

The beetroot & cream cheese salad was small but great, seasoning was just right.

The roast chicken was a surprise! It was juicy and perfect. The taste, the texture... it can't be... really....? They used fresh chicken instead of frozen chicken?!?! That's MY trick!!! I asked the staff and it was confirmed! However, the gravy was watery, tasteless, and completely unnecessary. The chicken was tasty enough and didn't need any gravy.

Then came the fish. They were not lying when they said it was fresh fish and were never frozen. Flaky with a crispy thin batter. The thin fries I don't like... but they have given me time to prepare mentally, so I behaved myself and didn't turn into a monster. The best part was the sea salt on the side. You can add it to your own liking.

We were impressed (and hungry), so we went on to order some more side dishes: Calamari and prawns. You can taste the actual calamari and prawns inside, because (yet again!) they used fresh, never frozen ingredients. It is certainly different from the usual rubber-like, frozen-to-death stuff that restaurants use for deep-frying. Unfortunately the calamari was a bit oily, and I certainly did let the staff know about this as I belive this little restaurant is worth my energy and I do want them to improve.

We were so full already, but saw that they have one and only one dessert on the menu -- Lemon poppy seed cake. When someone puts only 1 item on the menu they usually do it well. It's only $30, so we ordered it too. It was nice, and obviously homemade.

Overall I would say it was nice, they certainly don't cut corners with the ingredients. I would definitely come back (but would call to make sure they have chips first!).
